The Beidou Satellite Navigation System (BDS) is a public satellite navigation infrastructure independently developed by China and provides high-precision positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services. As the BDS enters a new stage of globalized services, promoting the international application of the system and establishing a more comprehensive PNT system becomes urgent. In 2022, the Chinese Academy of Engineering launched the projects “Strategic Research on the International Development of the Beidou Satellite Navigation System” and the “Strategic Research on the National Temporal-Spatial Information Security”. The projects summarize the demand, status quo, and trends regarding the international application of the BDS, analyze the opportunities, risks, and challenges, elaborate on the significance, goals and architecture, and propose the overall idea, development path, and policy suggestions for promoting the international application of the BDS.
It is a consensus among countries worldwide to promote the clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient development of energy production and consumption. The power system featuring strong electricity is the major approach for energy transmission in modern society and is the key to national economic and social development. Coordinating development and security during energy development is critical for the safe, stable, and effective operation of the power system. In 2022, the Chinese Academy of Engineering launched the consulting projects “Research on China’s Energy Security Strategy” and “Research on Guaranteeing China’s Power Security”. These projects analyze the severe challenges brought by energy transformation to China’s energy security, particularly to power system security, explore the basic paths to accelerate energy transformation while ensuring energy security, and propose to build a new power system prioritizing new energies to optimize the power market and achieve safe power supply.
