Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is one of the unique cultural treasures of Chinese; it represents a significant feature and prominent advantage of the healthcare cause in China. Data in this paper were from World Health Organization, Chinese Bureau of Statistics, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and PubMed. In recent years, TCM has established a solid foundation in Europe, which made great strides in legislation, education, research, and international exchange, and has enjoyed a vast development space in the continent. Now, TCM is embracing unprecedented development opportunities in Europe. At the same time, the stiff international competition poses a grave threat to China’s TCM industry. With multiple cultural, legal, and institutional challenges, as well as talent shortages in the way, TCM is now facing many difficulties in Europe. To fully prepare and enact active and vigorous steps to seize opportunities, we should have a clear picture about the serious challenges hampering TCM development in Europe. The TCM development at overseas markets has shifted from a spontaneous trade activity into a national strategy spearheaded by the government and participated in by multiple stakeholders. We should make a systematic, comprehensive, and sustainable push in fields such as TCM therapy, healthcare, education, research, culture, and industry development. The ultimate goal is to bring TCMs to the global market and allow them to play a role in safeguarding public health along with modern medicines.

Large population, limited land resources and environmental pollution are the main constraints for sustainable land use in China. It is an ambitious goal of the new millennium to monitor land use dynamically with remote sensing technology, enhance management of primary agricultural land, build gardening and ecologically sound agricultural conditions, and to achieve dynamic balance of total agricultural land areas in China.

Based on patent retrieval and analysis with the Thomson Innovation (TI) database, the international development trend of recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) is investigated. The current international research and development focus for RAS are purification technology, aquarium structure, water temperature control, and biological filters and filter devices. Meanwhile, China has focused on fish tank and pond design, biological filters, RAS devices, oxygen supply and motor shaft, etc. Though some of the international research focus in RAS are new for China, the number of Chinese patents is greater than the international average and has grown rapidly in recent years, indicating a positive developmental trend in the near future. This paper provides recommendations for improving efficiency, quality, safety, and environmental protection of sustainable aquaculture as well as further measures for the development of RAS in China.

China has become the world’s largest producer and consumer of energy, and ranks first in its wind and solar power installation capacity. However, increasingly serious wind and solar curtailment in China has significantly hindered the development and utilization of renewable energy. To address problems in the consumption of renewable energy, this paper analyzes four key factors affecting the capacity of power generated from renewable energy sources: power balance, power regulation performance, transmission capacity, and load level. Focusing on these bottlenecks, we propose seven solutions: centralized and distributed development of renewable energy, improving the peak-load regulation flexibility of thermal power, increasing the proportion of gas turbines and pumped-hydropower storage, construction of transmission channels and a flexible smart grid developing demand response and virtual power plants, adopting new energy active support and energy storage, and establishing appropriate policies and market mechanisms. The Chinese government and energy authorities have issued a series of policies and measures, and in the past three years, China has had remarkable achievements in the adoption of renewable energy. The rate of idle wind capacity decreased from 17% in 2016 to 7% in 2018, and that of solar decreased from 10% in 2016 to 3% in 2018.

This work discusses the importance of improving the recycling and utilization of end-of-life vehicles through three perspectives that include resource saving, environmental protection, and transportation safety. It then analyzes the situation of recycling and utilizing end-of-life vehicles by using the recycle rate of end-of-life vehicles and their dismantling ability, as well as the administrative regulations and supervising system. Based on this analysis, we propose an ecologically beneficial evaluation model for the recycling and utilization of end-of-life vehicles to solve the existing problem.
