A Study About IC and IR in Principal-gent RelationshipUnder the Engineer Supervision Institution

Qin Xuan

Strategic Study of CAE 2007, Volume 9, Issue 4,   Pages 45-49

Abstract: constraint(IC)and the participation constraint (IR) in principal-gent relationship between employer and engineerIf the employer wants to improve the engineer supervision institution, it must adopt incentive mechanismswhich can make the engineer work hard, in the mean time the incentive mechanisms play efficient roles This paper will provide some implications for engineer supervision development in China.

A Framework Design of the Future Engineer Classification of China

Wen Liang,Weng Jingbo,He Jishan

Strategic Study of CAE 2007, Volume 9, Issue 8,   Pages 15-20

Abstract: >The UK pattern and the USA pattern have been acknowledged internationally as the typical certified engineer A few developed countries have already established the mutual acceptance agreement on engineerqualification on the basis of the engineer system. China's engineer specialty classification should be fused with the international engineer specialtyand its own present engineer specialty classification situation.

From Remotely Operated Vehicles to Autonomous Undersea Vehicles

Feng Xisheng

Strategic Study of CAE 2000, Volume 2, Issue 12,   Pages 29-33

Abstract:

A clear definition and a very fine classification of the unmanned undersea vehicles are given in this paper. Following a brief introduction of the advances on the unmanned undersea vehicles the paper points out that the autonomous underwater vehicles at present is a hot spot in the research realm of the unmanned undersea vehicles. This paper describes the research and development achievements pertinent to the unmanned undersea vehicles in Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), Chinese Academy of Sciences with the cooperation of organizations home and abroad in the last two decades. SIA started to be engaged in the research and development of the remotely operated tethered vehicles in the end of 1970's. This paper gives a wide introduction of the critical characteristics and technical descriptions of the first remotely operated tethered vehicle “HR- 01” in China, the first autonomous underwater vehicle “Explorer” and the autonomous underwater vehicle CR-01 (6 000 m).

Enhancing to Produce Chinese Engineers of the 21st Century

Wang Peimin,Kong Hanbing

Strategic Study of CAE 2001, Volume 3, Issue 6,   Pages 19-23

Abstract:

The article discusses the awareness of engineering culture that engineering educators should develop ,as well as the role played by engineers, their significance and personal quality required, considering the new mission of Chinese engineers of the 21st century. The authors also look into the four important kinds of quality of creativity, practicing ability, entrepreneurship and leadership. Furthermore, recommendations for engineering education reform are provided accordingly.

Considerations on Technology Innovation

Yin Ruiyu

Strategic Study of CAE 2002, Volume 4, Issue 9,   Pages 38-41

Abstract:

The knowledge chain of science-technology-engineering-industry is studied in this paper based on their essences and meanings. It is pointed out that the connection of technology and engineering with economy is much tighter than that of science with economy. It is stressed that science-fundamental research is the transformation of capital to knowledge, and that the technology innovation is the transformation of knowledge to benefit and profit through market by the support of capital. Engineers are the important creators of new productive force and active pioneer of new industrial field. Engineers will confront with technology innovation at different levels, in different areas and on different scales. Much more attention must be paid to the creative work of engineers, especially in rapid economic growth period. The cultivation of a large number of qualified personnel in technology engineering is the requirement for promoting economic development and social progress.

Studying Engineering Ethics and Prompting Engineers' Consciousness of Responsibility

Li Shixin

Strategic Study of CAE 2004, Volume 6, Issue 2,   Pages 88-93

Abstract:

Engineering ethics is an inter-disciplinary subject developed in the late 20th century. But many engineers doubt how engineering connects with ethics. This paper analyses the view of engineering as application of science and the view of engineering as mere instrument for human values. Engineering is not an application of science to make risk-free products but risk-involving inherently and has great ethical implications. Engineering is more than an instrument for human values. On the contrary it has great reaction on social values. Engineering ethics should be studied on the basis of the interrelation of engineering and society. Within this framework engineers' responsibility is discussed.

Strategic Study of CAE 2007, Volume 9, Issue 8,   Pages 72-76

Abstract:

Selecting route for hazardous materials (Hazmat) transportation by road is a bilateral decision between local government and the carriers,  involving safety,  environmental and economic factors.  Among them,  the quantitative risk assessment is an important method.  However,  there has been no agreement among researchers on the proper model of the associated transport risk and dfferent models to quantify risk in different ways.  In this paper,  the most common Hazmat transport risk models in the literature are reviewed,  which are divided into five classes including traditional risk model and models derived from it,  perceived risk,  conditional risk,  catastrophe avoidance models and modified traditional risk models.  Moreover,  it is discussed in detail on multiple trips multi-accident.  Finall y,  an example used by these models is evaluated,  and the challenging development of risk model is proposed.
