Bin ZHAO, Jiayu XU, Jiming HAO

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2011, Volume 5, Issue 3,   Pages 378-390 doi: 10.1007/s11783-011-0357-8

Abstract: structure is of strategic importance to the reduction of carbon intensity and the improvement of air qualityutilized the Mesoscale Modeling System Generation 5 (MM5) and the Models-3/Community Multiscale Air QualityModel (CMAQ) to evaluate the impact of these measures on air quality. The air quality impacts of different scenarios in 2020 resemble each other, indicating that the potentialof air quality improvement due to structure adjustment in power plants and heating sectors is limited

Managing soil quality for humanity and the planet

Rattan LAL

Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering 2020, Volume 7, Issue 3,   Pages 251-253 doi: 10.15302/J-FASE-2020329

Abstract:

Rather than a human-centric, the basic strategy of achieving Sustainable Development Goals must be focused on restoring and sustaining planetary processes. The urgency of meeting the demands of the humanity must be reconciled with the necessity of enhancing the environment. Increasing and restoring soil organic matter content of the degraded and depleted soils is critical to strengthening planetary processes.

Modeling effects of a tidal barrage on water quality indicator distribution in the Severn Estuary

Guanghai GAO, Roger A. FALCONER, Binliang LIN

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2013, Volume 7, Issue 2,   Pages 211-218 doi: 10.1007/s11783-012-0464-1

Abstract: In this study, emphasis has focused on assessing the potential hydro-environmental impacts of a barrage across the Severn Estuary, with a numerical model being developed and applied to the estuary to assess the impacts of proposed Severn Barrage on the hydrodynamic, sediment transport and faecal indicator organism distribution within the estuary. The results show that the Severn Barrage has the potential to reduce the tidal currents in a highly dynamic estuary. This leads to the reduction of suspended sediment concentrations, which in turn affects the bacterial transport processes which is highly related to the sediment transport processes.
