Experimental investigations of frost release by hydrophilic surfaces

摘要: Frost formation occurs when water vapor in the surrounding air comes into contact with cold surfaces through heat and mass transfer. It is usually an undesirable phenomenon in most refrigeration and cryogenic systems. A few studies have shown that changing the surface energy, such as increasing the surface hydrophilicity or hydrophobicity, has significant effects on frost growth. In this paper, a kind of hydrophilic polymer paint is formulated to counteract frost deposition on cold surfaces. The coated surface can retard frost formation up to three hours under low plate temperatures (-15.3°C) and high air humidity (72%). To test the antifrosting performance of the hydrophilic paint under more practical conditions, it is applied to a fin-and-tube heat exchanger and a domestic refrigerator at a coating thickness of 30 μm. Comparisons of frost deposition, pressure drops, and outlet temperatures are made between uncoated and coated heat exchangers. Under conditions of high air temperature (2.2°C) and relative high air humidity (90%), the paint prolongs the defrosting interval from 80 to 137 min. Experimental observations also show that the coated hydrophilic fins are free of frost deposition during the entire course of the test and that the coating has no significant additional thermal resistance.

Hydrophilic modification of poly(aryl sulfone) membrane materials toward highly-efficient environmental remediation

摘要: Poly(aryl sulfone) as a typical membrane material has been widely used due to excellent mechanical, chemical and thermal stability. However, the inherent hydrophobicity of poly(aryl sulfone) based membranes bears with the fouling issue during applications, which makes the membrane tending to adsorb contaminants on the surface so as to result in decreased separation performance and lifetime. In this critical review, we give a comprehensive overview on characterizations of hydrophilic membrane and diverse hydrophilic modification approaches of poly(aryl sulfone) membranes, predominantly including bulky, blending and surface modification technology. The discussions on the different modification methods have been provided in-depth. Besides, focusing on modification methods and performance of modified membranes, the related mechanisms for the performance enhancement are discussed too. At last, the perspectives are provided to guide the future directions to develop novel technology to manipulate the hydrophilicity of poly(aryl sulfone) membranes toward diverse practical and multi-functional applications.

Grafting of PEG400 onto the surface of LLDPE/SMA film

摘要: Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) was melt and blended with styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer (SMA). The blending films were then immersed in poly(ethylene glycol)400 (PEG400) at room temperature. The surface composition of the blend films was determined by Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy coupled with a variable incidence angle attenuated total reflection accessory (ATR-FTIR). Results show that PEG400 can be grafted onto the surface of the films via esterification with SMA. The immersion of PEG promotes the enrichment of SMA onto the surface of the films. The water contact angle data show that grafting of PEG400 onto PE can greatly improve the hydrophilicity of the PE surface. These experiments show that surface functionalization of polyethylene films by blending SMA and then surface grafting of PEG is feasible, which suggest an effective and simple route for PE surface modification via blending and grafting.

Synthesis and characterization of macromolecular surface modifier PP--PEG for polypropylene

摘要: A novel macromolecular surface modifier, polypropylene-grafted-poly(ethylene glycol) copolymer (PP--PEG), was synthesized by coupling polypropylene containing maleic anhydride with monohydroxyl-terminated poly(ethylene glycol). The effects of the reaction condition on the graft reactions were studied. The copolymers were characterized by IR, H NMR, thermogravimetry (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results indicated that the graft reactions were hindered by increasing the molecular weight of PP or PEG. The graft copolymer was found to have a higher initial thermal degradation temperature and lower crystallization capacity as compared with pure PP, and the side chain of PEG hindered the PP chain from forming a perfect ? crystal. The thermal stability of PP--PEG decreased with the increasing content or molecular weight of PEG. The copolymers were blended with polypropylene to modify the surface hydrophilicity of the products. The results of attenuated total reflectance FTIR spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) showed that PP--PEG could diffuse preferably onto the surface of the blends and be suitable as an effectual macromolecular surface modifier for PP.

两亲高分子对超微滤膜的高性能化改性及应用

摘要:

为提高分子超微滤膜材料的亲水性、抗污染性能、通量和寿命,降低膜材料制造成本,提出两亲高分子共混改性聚偏氟乙烯、聚氯乙烯、聚醚砜膜材料的基础与应用技术研究。研究中,从分子结构设计出发,采用多种活性聚合法合成了一系列具有不同组成和序列结构的两亲高分子,研究了不同组成与序列结构的两亲高分子在成膜过程中的表面富集的规律、两亲高分子在共混膜中的稳定化机制等基础问题;从成膜热力学和动力学出发实现了共混膜多层次微结构的调控,开发出多种两亲高分子合成及其共混超滤膜制备的技术,实现了膜材料规模化生产及其在自来水净化、废水处理及医疗过滤等领域的应用。

A novel nanocomposite OMWCNT-A-GO was synthesized by conjugating OMWCNT and GO.

The P-OMWCNT-A-GO membrane was fabricated by non-solvent induced phase inversion.

The P-OMWCNT-A-GO exhibits the best water flux, BSA rejection and flux recovery.

It should be due to the enhanced membrane pore size, porosity and hydrophilicity.

氯化水与地表水导致的膜污染对比解析——生物污染特性和微生物探究 Article

摘要:

氯在城市水处理过程中通常用于灭活病原体和预防水媒疾病,但是目前尚不清楚其作为一种预处理技术是否能够有效地缓解超滤过程中产生的膜污染。在本研究中,我们探究了自来水在重力驱动膜过滤系统中对生物膜的形成及生物污染的影响。同时,未处理的地表水(湖水)所形成的生物膜/生物污染也进行了对比研究。研究表明,自来水过滤系统产生了比湖水更严重的膜污染,而且多糖和eDNA的含量更高。其生物膜形态致密,但是湖水形成的生物膜是多孔、类似蜘蛛网状的结构,猜测可能与生物膜中的细菌有关。16S rRNA测序结果表明,Xanthobacter在自来水形成的生物膜中占据优势地位。此外,研究发现膜的亲、疏水性对膜污染特性和微生物群落的影响较小。本研究揭示了耐氯细菌在膜污染形成中的重要作用,更深入地认识了膜污染,可为寻求有效的膜污染控制方法提供帮助。
