Review of operational management in intelligent agriculture based on the Internet of Things

摘要： This review aims to gain insight into the current research and application of operational management in the area of intelligent agriculture based on the Internet of Things (IoT), and consequently, identify existing shortcomings and potential issues. First, we use the Java application CiteSpace to analyze co-citation networks in the literature related to the operational management of IoT-based intelligent agriculture. From the literature analysis results, we identify three major fields: (1) the development of agricultural IoT (Agri-IoT) technology, (2) the precision management of agricultural production, and (3) the traceability management of agricultural products. Second, we review research in the three fields separately in detail. Third, on the basis of the research gaps identified in the review and from the perspective of integrating and upgrading the entire agricultural industry chain, additional research directions are recommended from the following aspects: The operational management of agricultural production, product processing, and product sale and after-sale service based on Agri-IoT. The theoretical research and practical application of combining operational management theories and IoT-based intelligent agriculture will provide informed decision support for stakeholders and drive the further development of the entire agriculture industry chain.

Energy storage resources management: Planning, operation, and business model

摘要： With the acceleration of supply-side renewable energy penetration rate and the increasingly diversified and complex demand-side loads, how to maintain the stable, reliable, and efficient operation of the power system has become a challenging issue requiring investigation. One of the feasible solutions is deploying the energy storage system (ESS) to integrate with the energy system to stabilize it. However, considering the costs and the input/output characteristics of ESS, both the initial configuration process and the actual operation process require efficient management. This study presents a comprehensive review of managing ESS from the perspectives of planning, operation, and business model. First of all, in terms of planning and configuration, it is investigated from capacity planning, location planning, as well as capacity and location combined planning. This process is generally the first step in deploying ESS. Then, it explores operation management of ESS from the perspectives of state assessment and operation optimization. The so-called state assessment refers to the assessment of three aspects: The state of charge (SOC), the state of health (SOH), and the remaining useful life (RUL). The operation optimization includes ESS operation strategy optimization and joint operation optimization. Finally, it discusses the business models of ESS. Traditional business models involve ancillary services and load transfer, while emerging business models include electric vehicle (EV) as energy storage and shared energy storage.

Development of a BIM-based holonic system for real-time monitoring of building operational efficiency

摘要： In the wide context of facility management, several processes, such as operations, maintenance, retrofitting, and renovations, ensure that buildings comply with the principles of efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and indoor comfort. Apart from ordinary operation, facility management is responsible for the renovation of and long-term performance improvement of building facilities. In such a scenario, the cyber–physical system (CPS) paradigm with holonic architecture, which is the focus of this study, can successfully guide the operation management and long-term refurbishment processes of buildings. Analogous to the manufacturing field, the developed CPS maximizes holons’ self-configuration and self-organization and overall throughput effectiveness metrics to detect the best corrective actions toward system improvements. Consequently, suggestions and lessons learned from the evaluation of building efficiency are redirected to the building information model. Hence, the digital model acts as a repository of currently available equipment for operations management and the history of diagnoses that support decision-making during the maintenance, retrofitting, and renovation processes. Evidently, the repeated detection of a specific issue, which is unaffected by operations management, should be considered an opportunity to act and enhance the performances of existing building components. Similar to a goods-producing industry, the building management system developed in this study applies the aforementioned methodology to provide services related to indoor comfort and building health. This approach indicates that a method for automatic real-time diagnosis is tested in a case study consisting of a multi-use and large public building. The current paper, which is an extended version of the one presented in the Creative Construction Conference 2018, deepens the decision support tool and the supervision policy. Moreover, the developed system is contextualized by providing an example of use case and highlighting the step forward in the field of smart buildings.

An overview of selected topics in smart grids

摘要： Smart technologies when used in the traditional grid infrastructure will provide a different environment and working conditions in the grid by bringing the required smartness into the grid, called the smart grid. The smart grid can play a major role in the upcoming days to come because there is a necessity to integrate coordinated renewable energy resources into the grid and to operate the grids at a higher efficiency considering many aspects including reliability of the supply. Apart from this, there is a necessity to manage the demand supply gap in the smart grid by optimally scheduling the generators or by effectively scheduling the demand side resources instead of going for the traditional methods like partial or full load shedding. This paper presents an overview on the present state-of-the-art of smart grid technologies and broadly classifies the papers referred into two major areas, papers based on improvement of operational efficiency in smart grids and papers based on smartness in maintaining the demand supply gap. Some of the papers projected in this work also give a brief overview of the necessity of the smart grid.

Development of an integrated structural health monitoring system for bridge structures in operational

摘要： This paper presents an overview of development of an integrated structural health monitoring system. The integrated system includes vibration and guided-wave based structural health monitoring. It integrates the real-time heterogeneous sensor data acquiring system, data analysis and interpretation, physical-based numerical simulation of complex structural system under operational conditions and structural evaluation. The study is mainly focused on developing: integrated sensor technology, integrated structural damage identification with operational loads monitoring, and integrated structural evaluation with results from system identification. Numerical simulation and its implementation in laboratory show that the system is effective and reliable to detect local damage and global conditions of bridge structures.

A review of condition-based maintenance: Its prognostic and operational aspects

摘要： Condition-based maintenance (CBM) detects early signs of failure and dictates when maintenance should be performed based on the actual condition of a system. In this paper, we first review some of the recent research on CBM under various physical structures and signal data. Then, we summarize several kinds of prognostic models that use monitoring information to estimate the reliability of complex systems or products. Monitoring information also facilitates operational decisions in production planning, spare parts management, reliability improvement, and prognostics and health management. Finally, we suggest some research opportunities for the reliability and operations management communities to fill the research gap between these two fields.

Design and operational considerations for selective catalytic reduction technologies at coal-fired boilers

摘要： By the end of 2010, China had approximately 650 GW of coal-fired electric generating capacity producing almost 75% of the country’s total electricity generation. As a result of the heavy reliance on coal for electricity generation, emissions of air pollutants, such as nitrogen oxides (NO ), are increasing. To address these growing emissions, the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) has introduced new NO emission control policies to encourage the installation of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technologies on a large number of coal-fired electric power plants. There is, however, limited experience with SCR in China. It is therefore useful to explore the lessons from the use of SCR technologies in other countries. This paper provides an overview of SCR technology performance at coal-fired electric power plants demonstrating emission removal rates between 65% and 92%. It also reviews the design and operational challenges that, if not addressed, can reduce the reliability, performance, and cost-effectiveness of SCR technologies. These challenges include heterogeneous flue gas conditions, catalyst degradation, ammonia slip, sulfur trioxide (SO ) formation, and fouling and corrosion of plant equipment. As China and the rest of the world work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, carbon dioxide (CO ) emissions from parasitic load and urea-to-ammonia conversion may also become more important. If these challenges are properly addressed, SCR can reliably and effectively remove up to 90% of NO emissions at coal-fired power plants.

Effects of operational and structural parameters on cell voltage of industrial magnesium electrolysis

摘要： Electric field is the energy foundation of the electrolysis process and the source of the multiphysical fields in a magnesium electrolysis cell. In this study, a three-dimensional numerical model was developed and used to calculate electric field at the steady state through the finite element analysis. Based on the simulation of the electric field, the operational and structural parameters, such as the current intensity, anode thickness, cathode thickness, and anode-cathode distance (ACD), were investigated to obtain the minimum cell voltage. The optimization is to obtain the minimum resistance voltage which has a significant effect on the energy consumption in the magnesium electrolysis process. The results indicate that the effect of the current intensity on the voltage could be ignored and the effect of the ACD is obvious. Moreover, there is a linear decrease between the voltage and the thicknesses of the anode and cathode; and the anode-cathode working height also has a significant effect on the voltage.

渤海湾海底隧道运营风险评估分析

摘要：

特长海底隧道运营是一个极其复杂的系统工程，存在较大的不确定性和安全风险。根据隧道工程运营期风险评估的一般流程，对渤海湾海底隧道工程在其运营期的风险进行了评估。评估中考虑的主要风险因素有水害、衬砌裂损、冻害、衬砌腐蚀、震害、洞内空气污染、火灾和列车脱轨事故8 种类型。综合运用信心指数法和层次分析法，参照隧道与地下工程风险接受准则和风险等级标准，对渤海湾海底隧道运营期间的风险进行估计与评价。给出了该海底隧道运营期的风险等级，并讨论了本评估工作中尚存在的一些问题和今后有待深入的工作。

三峡船闸完建期156 m蓄水位4级运行方式原型调试研究

从水力学条件论证了船闸采用4级运行方案的可行性。通过原型调试，采取中间及阐首优化后的输水方式运行，基本消除了闸室第一分流口空化，船闸在超过设计的45.2 m水头下工作条件较好，在三峡船闸完建期156 m蓄水位船闸采用4级运行方式具优越性。

Reliability guarantee framework for the Sichuan–Tibet Railway

摘要： The Sichuan–Tibet Railway is facing extraordinary challenges in terms of construction, operation, and maintenance because of its extremely complicated natural environment and geological conditions. Consequently, countermeasures are necessary and urgent to ensure its safety and reliability in the whole life cycle. This study proposes a novel reliability framework to guarantee the ideal operation state of the Sichuan–Tibet Railway. Reliability application in many fields are summarized, including military equipment, rail locomotive, and railway engineering. Given the fact that the Sichuan–Tibet Railway is a complex giant system, Nine-Connotation was summarized (i.e., safety, inherent reliability, testability, maintainability, supportability, environmental adaptability, predictability, resilience, and durability) under the goal of optimizing the operational efficiency. On the basis of the concept of the Nine-Connotation and the understanding of reliability transmission mechanism, the framework of reliability for the Sichuan–Tibet Railway was established, which can facilitate a comprehensive and real-time evaluation of all situations with a clear hierarchy. The proposed framework is composed of a resilience management system, an integrated technology system, and a dynamic reliability assessment system. The pathway for its application on railway construction was developed in this study. The proposed framework can assist in well-informed decisions for the construction, as well as the operation of the Sichuan–Tibet Railway. On the basis of a top–down design concept for the first time, this study emphasizes the railway’s availability and validity to complete the assigned tasks as a whole, that is, operational efficiency. It also shows the reliability transmission and control mechanism of the railway’s giant complex system, innovating and establishing the management principle of great safety and great reliability over the life cycle.
