In terms of future economic and social development, strategic emerging industries are an important guiding force. Major countries around the world have adopted the cultivation and development of strategic emerging industries as a key strategy to seize the commanding heights of a new round of economic and technological development. China’s economy has shifted from high-speed growth to high-quality development. Strategic emerging industries have played an important role in accelerating the transformation of China’s economic development mode and achieving innovation-driven development. Since 2011, the Chinese Academy of Engineering has run a major consulting project on the development of strategic emerging industries, focusing on national strategic needs, with academicians as the core and experts as the backbone to carry out continuous in-depth research. The fourth part of this series, “Research on the Development Strategy of Emerging Industries (2035)” aims to focus on systemic technologies in key areas, industrial breakthrough technologies, and cross-domain technologies according to new trends in the development of international emerging industries. It proposes an innovation-led model, centered on the innovative development of the emerging industries during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. On this basis, it conducts technology forecasts and industrial system research of the aforementioned emerging industries and promotes their clustering and international development. Furthermore, it provides strategic decision-making consultation with the aim of achieving a substantial leap in China’s economic and technological strength from 2020 to 2035 and for ranking China among the forefront of innovative countries.
