Energetic materials (EMs) is an important part in the field of material science. And the researches and applications of EMs involved numerous new scientific problems and new engineering technologies. In this image, the front shows the newest progress in the field of synthetic energetic materials, total nitrogen pentazolate anion (N5-) and C/H/N/O-formed ultraflat 2D layered 4-nitro-7-azido-pyrazol-[3,4-d]-1,2,3-triazine-2-oxide (NAPTO). The development of N5- anion represents the target to pushing the energy limit of EMs. The designing and synthesizing of ultraflat 2D layered NAPTO represents the wish to develop safe and high-energy EMs. The behind shows explosion of EMs, the basic property of EMs, through which EMs could release large amount of gases and energies as well as strong light at a rapid speed. Besides, this explosion image also symbolizes the booming of numerous directions of energetic materials and its interdisciplinary science in recent years.
