Strategic Study of CAE 2007, Volume 9, Issue 11,   Pages 196-199

Abstract:

This article attempts to analyze the characteristics and hazards of the respirable dust, and introduces the new technologies for respirable dust prevention and control at home and aboard in recent years. Based on analyzing and comparing with different technologies of reducing dust, the results show that charged fog with wetting agent is a high- efficiency technology for the removal of the respirable dust of steel enterprise. Through the theoretical analysis and experimental study, it obtains ideal effect when this dedusting technology is applied to the removal of the respirable dust in a steel enterprise.

Efficient Nanostructuring of Isotropic Gas-Atomized MnAl Powder by Rapid Milling (30 s) Article

J. Rial, E.M. Palmero, A. Bollero

Engineering 2020, Volume 6, Issue 2,   Pages 172-176 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2019.03.013

Abstract:

An unprecedentedly short milling time of 30 s was applied to gas-atomized MnAl powder in order to develop permanent magnet properties and, in particular, coercivity. It is shown that such a short processing time followed by annealing results in efficient nanostructuring and controlled phase transformation. The defects resulting from the microstrain induced during milling, together with the creation of the β-phase during post-annealing, act as pinning centers resulting in an enhanced coercivity. This study shows the importance of finding a balance between the formation of the ferromagnetic τ-MnAl phase and the β-phase in order to establish a compromise between magnetization and coercivity. A coercivity as high as 4.2 kOe (1 Oe = 79.6 A·m-1 ) was obtained after milling (30 s) and annealing, which is comparable to values previously reported in the literature for milling times exceeding 20 h. This reduction of the postannealing temperature by 75 ℃ for the as-milled powder and a 2.5-fold increase in coercivity, while maintaining practically unchanged the remanence of the annealed gas-atomized material, opens a new path for the synthesis of isotropic MnAl-based powder.

Characteristics of Inconel Powders for Powder-Bed Additive Manufacturing

Quy Bau Nguyen, Mui Ling Sharon Nai, Zhiguang Zhu, Chen-Nan Sun, Jun Wei, Wei Zhou

Engineering 2017, Volume 3, Issue 5,   Pages 695-700 doi: 10.1016/J.ENG.2017.05.012

Abstract:

In this study, the flow characteristics and behaviors of virgin and recycled Inconel powder for powder-bed additive manufacturing (AM) were studied using different powder characterization techniques. The results revealed that the particle size distribution (PSD) for the selective laser melting (SLM) process is typically in the range from 15 μm to 63 μm. The flow rate of virgin Inconel powder is around 28 s·(50 g)-1. In addition, the packing density was found to be 60%. The rheological test results indicate that the virgin powder has reasonably good flowability compared with the recycled powder. The inter-relation between the powder characteristics is discussed herein. A propeller was successfully printed using the powder. The results suggest that Inconel powder is suitable for AM and can be a good reference for researchers who attempt to produce AM powders.
