Interface engineering for enhancing electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction of CoS/CeO heterostructures

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2022, Volume 16, Issue 3,   Pages 376-383 doi: 10.1007/s11705-021-2062-x

Abstract: To realize renewable energy conversion, it is important to develop low-cost and high-efficiency electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction. In this communication, a novel bijunction CoS/CeO2 electrocatalyst grown on carbon cloth is prepared by the interface engineering. The interface engineering of CoS and CeO2 facilitates a rapid charge transfer from CeO2 to CoS. Such an electrocatalyst exhibits outstanding electrocatalytic activity with a low overpotential of 311 mV at 10 mA∙cm−2 and low Tafel slope of 76.2 mV∙dec–1, and is superior to that of CoS (372 mV) and CeO2 (530 mV) counterparts. And it has long-term durability under alkaline media.

Abstract:

Experiments on electrodeposited Zn-Fe-SiO2 composite coatings are reported.Effects of current density, distance between electrodes, stir, number and distributing pattern of anodes and additives on the appearance of coatings are discussed, and the technical targets of the experiment are given. The results show that stability of technics is satisfactory. The maintenance operation is convenient, and the process is innocuous and safe.

Efficient and selective electro-reduction of nitrobenzene by the nano-structured Cu catalyst prepared by an electrodeposited method via tuning applied voltage

Yali CHEN,Lu XIONG,Weikang WANG,Xing ZHANG,Hanqing YU

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2015, Volume 9, Issue 5,   Pages 897-904 doi: 10.1007/s11783-015-0782-1

Abstract: Pollution caused by toxic nitrobenzene has been a widespread environmental concern. Selective reduction of nitrobenzene to aniline is beneficial to further efficient and cost-effective biologic treatment. Electrochemical reduction is a promising method and Cu-based catalysts have been found to be an efficient cathode material for this purpose. In this work, Cu catalysts with different morphologies were fabricated on Ti plate using a facile electrodepositon method via tuning the applied voltage. The dendritic nano-structured Cu catalysts obtained at high applied voltages exhibited an excellent efficiency and selectivity toward the reduction of nitrobenzene to aniline. Effects of the working potential and initial nitrobenzene concentration on the selective reduction of nitrobenzene to aniline using the Cu/Ti electrode were investigated. A high rate constant of 0.0251 min and 97.1% aniline selectivity were achieved. The fabricated nano-structured Cu catalysts also exhibited good stability. This work provides a facile way to prepare highly efficient, cost-effective, and stable nano-structured electrocatalysts for pollutant reduction.

Engineering sodium metal anode with sodiophilic bismuthide penetration for dendrite-free and high-rate sodium-ion battery

Engineering 2022, Volume 11, Issue 4,   Pages 89-96 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2021.08.028

Abstract:

Sodium (Na) metal batteries with a high volumetric energy density that can be operated at high rates are highly desirable. However, an uneven Na-ion migration in bulk Na anodes leads to localized deposition/dissolution of sodium during high-rate plating/stripping behaviors, followed by severe dendrite growth and loose stacking. Herein, we engineer the Na hybrid anode with sodiophilic Na3Bi-penetration to develop the abundant phase-boundary ionic transport channels. Compared to intrinsic Na, the reduced adsorption energy and ion-diffusion barrier on Na3Bi ensure even Na+ nucleation and rapid Na+ migration within the hybrid electrode, leading to uniform deposition and dissolution at high current densities. Furthermore, the bismuthide enables compact Na deposition within the sodiophilic framework during cycling, thus favoring a high volumetric capacity. Consequently, the obtained anode was endowed with a high current density (up to 5 mA∙cm−2), high areal capacity (up to 5 mA·h∙cm−2), and long-term cycling stability (up to 2800 h at 2 mA∙cm−2).
