Preparing construction supply chains for blockchain technology: An investigation of its potential and future directions

Algan TEZEL, Eleni PAPADONIKOLAKI, Ibrahim YITMEN, Per HILLETOFTH

Frontiers of Engineering Management 2020, Volume 7, Issue 4,   Pages 547-563 doi: 10.1007/s42524-020-0110-8

Abstract: Blockchain, a peer-to-peer, controlled, distributed database structure, has the potential to profoundly affect current business transactions in the construction industry through smart contracts, cryptocurrencies, and reliable asset tracking. The construction industry is often criticized for being slow in embracing emerging technologies and not effectively diffusing them through its supply chains. Often, the extensive fragmentation, traditional procurement structures, destructive competition, lack of collaboration and transparency, low-profit margins, and human resources are shown as the main culprits for this. As blockchain technology makes its presence felt strongly in many other industries like finance and banking, this study investigates the preparation of construction supply chains for blockchain technology through an explorative analysis. Empirical data for the study were collected through semi-structured interviews with 17 subject experts. Alongside presenting a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats analysis (SWOT), the study exhibits the requirements for and steps toward a construction supply structure facilitated by blockchain technology.

Polyhedral linkages obtained as assemblies of planar link groups

GÖkhan KİPER, Eres SÖYLEMEZ

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2013, Volume 8, Issue 1,   Pages 3-9 doi: 10.1007/s11465-013-0363-6

Abstract:

The study aims to devise means of obtaining polyhedral linkages for homothetic deployment of polyhedral shapes by embedding planar link groups in faces of the polyhedral shape of interest. The questions of which polyhedral shapes may be suitable for such a purpose and what are the compatibility conditions for spatially assembling planar link groups are addressed. Homohedral and tangential polyhedral shapes are found to be suitable for the task and some examples of linkages are worked out.

Comparison of reference values for immune recovery between event-free patients receiving haploidentical

Xuying Pei, Xiangyu Zhao, Yu Wang, Lanping Xu, Xiaohui Zhang, Kaiyan Liu, Yingjun Chang, Xiaojun Huang

Frontiers of Medicine 2018, Volume 12, Issue 2,   Pages 153-163 doi: 10.1007/s11684-017-0548-1

Abstract:

To establish optimal reference values for recovered immune cell subsets, we prospectively investigated post-transplant immune reconstitution (IR) in 144 patients who received allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) and without showing any of the following events: poor graft function, grades II?IV acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), serious chronic GVHD, serious bacterial infection, invasive fungal infection, or relapse or death in the first year after transplantation. IR was rapid in monocytes, intermediate in lymphocytes, CD3+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, and CD19+ B cells, and very slow in CD4+ T cells in the entire patient cohort. Immune recovery was generally faster under HLA-matched sibling donor transplantation than under haploidentical transplantation. Results suggest that patients with an IR comparable to the reference values display superior survival, and the levels of recovery in immune cells need not reach those in healthy donor in the first year after transplantation. We suggest that data from this recipient cohort should be used as reference values for post-transplant immune cell counts in patients receiving HSCT.

GPU-based multi-slice per pass algorithm in interactive volume illumination rendering Research Articles

Dening Luo, Yi Lin, Jianwei Zhang,onexinoneyi@hotmail.com,Yilin@scu.edu.cn,zhangjianwei@scu.edu.cn

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2021, Volume 22, Issue 8,   Pages 1092-1103 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2000214

Abstract: plays a significant role in medical imaging and engineering applications. To obtain an improved three-dimensional shape perception of , realistic has been considerably studied in recent years. However, the calculation overhead associated with interactive is unusually high, and the solvability of the problem is adversely affected when the data size and algorithm complexity are increased. In this study, a scalable and GPU-based (MSPP) algorithm is proposed which can quickly generate global volume shadow and achieve a translucent effect based on the transfer function, so as to improve perception of the shape and depth of . In our real-world data tests, MSPP significantly outperforms some complex volume shadow algorithms without losing the illumination effects, for example, half-angle slicing. Furthermore, the MSPP can be easily integrated into the parallel rendering frameworks based on sort-first or sort-last algorithms to accelerate . In addition, its scalable slice-based framework can be combined with several traditional frameworks.
