Liu Zelong, Li Jian,Wang Jing, Sun Baoguo

Strategic Study of CAE 2022, Volume 24, Issue 6,   Pages 72-80 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2022.06.007

Abstract:

The food nutrition and health industry is an important component of the Healthy China strategy in the context of dual circulation. This study summarized the development trend of the industry and analyzed the challenges faced by the industry under the new circumstance. According to the overall strategic layout and planning of China, breakthrough paths were proposed, including establishing a food technology system based on Chinese resident health information in the context of domestic circulation, promoting domestic and international circulation through industrial diversification, and improving global influence of the industry by exploiting both the domestic and international markets and resources. Furthermore, we proposed several suggestions. China should focus on the input of innovative resources in the food nutrition and health field to prompt high-quality achievements; strength policy support and guidance to promote the international competitiveness of enterprises; improve the industry-university-research collaboration system to promote the transformation of achievements; strengthen talent training to provide professional support; optimize the industry supervision system to create a healthy market environment; and promote education and publicity regarding food nutrition and health to improve citizens' health literacy.

Strategic Study of CAE 2023, Volume 25, Issue 4,   Pages 120-127 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2023.04.011

Abstract:

Diets significantly affect the nutrition and health of people as well as the resources and environment. Promoting a  sustainable healthy diets among the Chinese population is crucial for implementing the Healthy China initiative, fostering sustainable  development, and ensuring national food security in China. This study reviews the forming process of the sustainable healthy diets concept, presents several representative sustainable dietary patterns, and clarifies the international consensus on sustainable healthy diets from the perspectives of nutrition and health, resource and environment, and socio-economics. Moreover, it analyzes the current dietary patterns of Chinese residents and focuses on associated nutrition and health issues and resource and environmental challenges caused by changes in dietary patterns. Furthermore, we recommend that China should propose targeted plans to guide and optimize residents' dietary patterns, implement multiple measures to foster a healthy and sustainable food consumption habit among residents, and establish a sustainable and healthy dietary supply system. This can help cope with the double challenges of increasing nutritional imbalance and environmental degradation and improve the formulation of national food policies.

Nutrient Sensing for the Future of Land-Farming Animal and Aquaculture Nutrition Perspective

Zongyu Gao, Chengdong Liu, Kangsen Mai, Gen He

Engineering 2023, Volume 23, Issue 4,   Pages 112-117 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2022.05.019

Abstract:

Feeding is vital for animal growth and the maintenance of health. However, the underlying mechanisms that mediate dietary performance have long been a so-called black box. It is only during recent years that studies have demonstrated that nutrients act as signals that can be sensed by cells and organisms and that play vital roles in gene expression and metabolism. Multiple signaling pathways have been identified as being responsible for the sensing of discrete nutrients. While successes have been achieved in the exploitation of nutrient-sensing signals in drug discovery and disease control, applications based on the sensing and metabolic control of major nutrients (proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, etc.) in aquaculture and land-farmed animals remain in their infancy. We thus provide a tentative perspective on future research topics and applications of nutrient sensing in animal nutrition.

Xie Shouqi,Zhang Wenbing,Han Dong and Mai Kangsen

Strategic Study of CAE 2016, Volume 18, Issue 3,   Pages 29-36 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2016.03.005

Abstract:

This paper reviews the research in nutrition and feed development in aquaculture animals in recent years, and analyzes the problem and future development of feed industry. In past 10 years, great advances have been achieved in aquaculture animal nutrient requirements, feeding, larval feed, broodstock nutrition, additives etc. But there are still some problems regarding aquafeed including high feed conversion ratio, high environmental discharge, high feed cost and unstable profit. In the near future, the research and development of aquaculture nutrition and feed should focus on "high efficiency, safety, economic and environmental neutral". New concepts from ecology and genomics technologies should be applied in the study on molecular mechanism of nutrition and metabolism, nutrient requirements and accurate feed and feeding, feed quality control and processing, animal quality regulation, etc. The government should provide more opportunities for cooperation between scientists from different areas and long term support.

Hu Peisong , Wang Xiaojun , Xie Linghong , Zhang Lin , Huang Shengnan ,Han Xinru , Wang Guogang , Hu Xiangdong

Strategic Study of CAE 2023, Volume 25, Issue 4,   Pages 101-108 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2023.04.009

Abstract:

China's food system is transforming from providing adequate and safe food to supplying nutritious and healthy food as the  country develops into a new stage of comprehensive modernization. To be green and low-carbon has become the global consensus regarding food system transformation, and China plans to transform its food system to be inclusive and sharing. Currently, China's food system faces multiple challenges such as the coexistence of overnutrition and nutritional deficiency, contradiction between supply assurance and carbon reduction, lack of tolerance for small-scale farmers and vulnerable groups of consumers, and weak resilience in production stability and supply controllability. Against the background of a declining population and an increasing urbanization rate, the structure of China's food system needs to be further optimized and develops toward "nutrition and health, green and low carbon, inclusiveness and sharing, and safety and resilience". Future efforts should focus on (1) adjusting the production system to enrich food supply, (2) strengthening scientific and technological innovation by prioritizing the development of win-win technologies, (3) improving relevant policies to increase investment in the transformation, (4) optimizing existing systems and mechanisms to build an efficient and inclusive food chain, and (5) promoting low-carbon consumption concepts and behaviors. Furthermore, we propose the following suggestions: (1) initiating nutrition-related legislation at the national level, (2) establishing a national reserve for food system transformation technologies, (3) launching a national science and technology project for food system transformation and upgrading, and (4) launching a national nutrition and health campaign.

Development Strategy of “New Medicine” Under the Background of Healthy China

He Ke, Wang Ling

Strategic Study of CAE 2019, Volume 21, Issue 2,   Pages 98-102 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2019.02.007

Abstract:

This paper starts with the connotation of “new medicine” under the background of Healthy China, focuses on the “new medicine” talent training system, and illustrates the necessity and urgency of developing “new medicine” from three aspects, which are new strategic requirements for serving China’s health construction, external demands for meeting the country’s transformation and development, and internal demands for meeting the medical reform. This paper further elaborates the basic strategy of “1234” for developing “new medicine”, namely, adhering to the “new concept” of “one center”, establishing the “new quality” of “two types of balance”, promoting the “new system” of “three coordinations”, and strengthening the “new model” of “four kinds of crossing”. And this paper suggests that we should actively seek for strong support from government departments, comprehensively promote the overall development of medical personnel, and accelerate innovation in interdisciplinary integration, thus to provide useful reference for high-level medical personnel training in China.

Chlorine Nutrition of Plant and Application of Chlorine-containing Fertilizers

Mao Zhiyun,Zhou Zefang,Shi Xiaojun,Liu Hongbin

Strategic Study of CAE 2000, Volume 2, Issue 6,   Pages 64-66

Abstract:

Chlorine is an essential element of plant nutrition. Based on twenty thorough and systematic studies on chlorine nutrition of plant and chlorine-containing fertilizers three new theoretical ideas are proposed.

(1) “Chlorine tolerance” and “critical value of chlorine tolerance of crop”. Plant chlorine tolerance can be divided into three types: (A)Crops of strong chlorine tolerance. It means under the condition of chlorine content of soil>600 mg/kg,the crops can grow normally, (e. g. beet cotton, rice, cucumber, etc. ) (B) Crops of medium chlorine tolerance. The crtical chlorine tolerance values are 300~600 mg/kg. (e. g. wheat, maize, tomato, eggplant, soybean, etc. )(C)Crops of weak chlorine tolerance:The crops critical chlorine tolerance values are 150〜300 mg/kg. (e. g. potato, sweet potato, tobaccos, grape, apple, etc.)

(2) Chlorine allowance of soil. It is the differece between the critical value of chlorine tolerance of plant and chlorine-content of soil. This term cimplies that the higher the chlorine allowance of soil, the much chlorine-contained fartilizer can be applied to the soil.

(3) The residual chlorine content in soil is nearly a constant. Accumulation effect of residual chlorine content not exists in the soil.

These ideas will be beneficial to the application of Chlorine-contained fertilizers and the development of the “United-soda” Process.
