Zhang Jindai,Li Youliang,Jian Xiaofei

Strategic Study of CAE 2008, Volume 10, Issue 1,   Pages 54-60

Abstract:

History of uranium exploration and the general situation of identified uranium resources in China are introduced briefly in the paper, the feature of uranium resources is summarized as “big number of deposits, good ore processing properties and centralized occurrence”,which should be considered as the advantages. In accordance with the fact that the exploration level of uranium resources is quite low in China, it is pointed out that exploration investment must be intensified from now on to identify more uranium concentrated base which occurring of middle-large size uranium deposit in order to meet the demand of natural uranium from nuclear power sector. Besides, main scientific and technological achievements on uranium exploration during the past fifty years are elaborated in the paper. According to the exploration ability and uranium resources potential in China, it is believed that uranium exploration can realize the goal of “getting break through both in home and abroad” and guarantee to meet the requirement of nuclear industry to uranium resources in China by carrying out the uranium resources exploration strategy of “rooting domestic and open up abroad”.

The prospect of saving copper conductor by using aluminum in China

Huang Chongqi

Strategic Study of CAE 2012, Volume 14, Issue 10,   Pages 4-9

Abstract:

Saving copper by using aluminum is the international trend now, but the development is progress step by step and every country has a different processes. There is an obvious difference among China and other countries on the application of aluminum and aluminum alloy in electric cables. There is a wide development space for the aluminum alloy conductors using for overhead line. There is a little development for application of copper clad aluminum conductors and the related standards are being approved as well as written; we expect progressive test in use. Now we also expect to find good technic economic efficient means to separate the copper and aluminum during recycling processing. The market of aluminum clad steel wires is also expanding in recent years, with the maturity of manufacturing technology. The amount of aluminum enameled wire is also rising recently. It is no doubt that there is more fiber and less copper in the communication field continuously. There is a substantial progress of saving copper by using aluminum on airplanes. It is very important for saving energy and protecting environment through recycling copper and aluminum scrap directly. It is imperative under the situation to set up the recoverable networks of scrap wires of copper and aluminum.

Advances in Fe(III) bioreduction and its application prospect for groundwater remediation: A review

Yu Jiang, Beidou Xi, Rui Li, Mingxiao Li, Zheng Xu, Yuning Yang, Shaobo Gao

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2019, Volume 13, Issue 6, doi: 10.1007/s11783-019-1173-9

Abstract: Microbial Fe(III) reduction is closely related to the fate of pollutants. Bioavailability of crystalline Fe(III) oxide is restricted due to thermodynamics. Amorphous Fe(III) (hydro)oxides are more bioavailable. Enrichment and incubation of Fe(III) reducing bacteria are significant. Microbial Fe(III) reduction is a significant driving force for the biogeochemical cycles of C, O, P, S, N, and dominates the natural bio-purification of contaminants in groundwater (e.g., petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated ethane, and chromium). In this review, the mechanisms and environmental significance of Fe(III) (hydro)oxides bioreduction are summarized. Compared with crystalline Fe(III) (hydro)oxides, amorphous Fe(III) (hydro)oxides are more bioavailable. Ligand and electron shuttle both play an important role in microbial Fe(III) reduction. The restrictive factors of Fe(III) (hydro)oxides bioreduction should be further investigated to reveal the characteristics and mechanisms of the process. It will improve the bioavailability of crystalline Fe(III) (hydro)oxides and accelerate the anaerobic oxidation efficiency of the reduction state pollutants. Furthermore, the approach to extract, culture, and incubate the functional Fe(III) reducing bacteria from actual complicated environment, and applying it to the bioremediation of organic, ammonia, and heavy metals contaminated groundwater will become a research topic in the future. There are a broad application prospects of Fe(III) (hydro)oxides bioreduction to groundwater bioremediation, which includes the in situ injection and permeable reactive barriers and the innovative Kariz wells system. The study provides an important reference for the treatment of reduced pollutants in contaminated groundwater.

Frontiers in Energy 2022, Volume 16, Issue 3,   Pages 445-459 doi: 10.1007/s11708-021-0740-5

Abstract: With the continuous growth of the population and the improvement of production, the shortage of freshwater has plagued many countries. The use of novel technologies such as desalination to produce fresh water on a large scale has become inevitable in the world. Hydrate-based desalination (HBD) technology has drawn an increasing amount of attention due to its mild operation condition and environmental friendliness. In this paper, literature on hydrate-based desalination is comprehensively analyzed and critically evaluated, focuses on experimental progress in different hydrate formers that have an impact on thermodynamics and dynamics in hydrate formation. Besides, various porous media promotion is investigated. Besides, the hydrate formation morphology and hydrate crystal structure with different hydrate formers are analyzed and compared. Moreover, molecular dynamic simulation is discussed to further understand microscopic information of hydrate formation. Furthermore, simulations of the HBD process by considering the energy consumption are also investigated. In conclusion, the hydrated based desalination is a potential technology to get fresh water in a sustainable way.

Current Situation and Prospect of Control on Air Pollutants from Coal-Fired Power in China

Wang Zhixuan and Liu Zhiqiang

Strategic Study of CAE 2015, Volume 17, Issue 9,   Pages 56-62

Abstract:

Since 2011, China has made great achievements on the control of air pollutions from coal-fired plants. The total amount and intensity of air pollution emission including dust, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide declined rapidly. The technology of emission control has reached the world level. In the 13th Five-Year Plan and even a longer period, coal-fired power plants will still take on heavy responsibility of the atmospheric pollutants emission reduction. Pollutants-control technologies of high performance, high reliability, high applicability and high efficiency, resource recovery technologies and cooperative control technologies of multiple pollutants are the main research directions of air pollution control technology of plants in China in the future. By 2020, the expected annual amount of emission of dust, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide from coal-fired power will reduce to 2×105~3×105 t, 1×106~1.5×106 t, 1×106~1.5×106 t, respectively.

Status and Prospect of Remanufacturing Technology for Tubing and Sucker Rods

He Liu,Tao Li,Wei-ye Han,Qiang Chen,Shou-zhi Huang,Er-yang Ming,Qiang Sun

Frontiers of Engineering Management 2016, Volume 3, Issue 3,   Pages 258-263 doi: 10.15302/J-FEM-2016031

Abstract: As the main consumables, huge amount of tubing and sucker rods are abandoned annually. The current remediation technology could only enable part of abandoned tubing and sucker rod to be reused in a degraded way, leading to a big resource waste. The production, use and remediation methods of tubing and sucker rod are analyzed here. Remanufacturing technology of abandoned tubing based on self-propagating high temperature synthesis (SHS) is proposed. Economic, environmental and social benefits of large scale application of this technology are evaluated. And then various factors that restrict the popularization of remanufacturing technology in the petroleum industry are studied and suggestions are given in the end. The results indicate that unlike conventional remediation methods, remanufacturing technology can extend the service life of abandoned tubing to reach or even exceed that of a new one. Meanwhile it can also reduce the cost effectively, and achieve significant economic and social benefits. We should expand remanufacturing technology areas in the petroleum industry and achieve stable, healthy development in the low oil price situation. The scientific standards for remanufactured products should be enacted, and new management mode of the remanufactured products should be developed.
