Atomic and close-to-atomic scale manufacturing—A trend in manufacturing development

Fengzhou FANG

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2016, Volume 11, Issue 4,   Pages 325-327 doi: 10.1007/s11465-016-0402-1

Abstract:

Manufacturing is the foundation of a nation’s economy. It is the primary industry to promote economic and social development. To accelerate and upgrade China’s manufacturing sector from “precision manufacturing” to “high-performance and high-quality manufacturing”, a new breakthrough should be found in terms of achieving a “leap-frog development”. Unlike conventional manufacturing, the fundamental theory of “Manufacturing 3.0” is beyond the scope of conventional theory; rather, it is based on new principles and theories at the atomic and/or close-to-atomic scale. Obtaining a dominant role at the international level is a strategic move for China’s progress.

Innovation-driven trend shaping COVID-19 vaccine development in China

Frontiers of Medicine doi: 10.1007/s11684-023-1034-6

Abstract: Confronted with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, China has become an asset in tackling the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) transmission and mutation, with several innovative platforms, which provides various technical means in this persisting combat. Derived from collaborated researches, vaccines based on the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 or inactivated whole virus are a cornerstone of the public health response to COVID-19. Herein, we outline representative vaccines in multiple routes, while the merits and plights of the existing vaccine strategies are also summarized. Likewise, new technologies may provide more potent or broader immunity and will contribute to fight against hypermutated SARS-CoV-2 variants. All in all, with the ultimate aim of delivering robust and durable protection that is resilient to emerging infectious disease, alongside the traditional routes, the discovery of innovative approach to developing effective vaccines based on virus properties remains our top priority.

Globalization of R&D: New Trend of Economy Globalization

Zhang Yanzhong

Strategic Study of CAE 2005, Volume 7, Issue 9,   Pages 14-17

Abstract:

The profound influence of economy globalization on the progress of the world, especially the impact on the development of China is described. It proposes that the globalization of R&D is a new stage of economy globalization. The rapid development of TNCs’ R&D in China is presented. The opportunities and challenges of R&D globalization for both developed and developing countries are discussed. The measures for encouraging globalization of R&D for developed, developing countries and UN are suggested.

The development trend and practical innovation of smart cities under the integration of new technologies

Xiaohong CHEN

Frontiers of Engineering Management 2019, Volume 6, Issue 4,   Pages 485-502 doi: 10.1007/s42524-019-0057-9

Abstract: Smart cities have rapidly developed in the context of the integration of new digital technologies such as big data, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, blockchains, and virtual reality. These cities have conducted practical innovations and typical cases in many sectors, such as in government, transportation, environmental protection, energy, medical care, and logistics, and have produced many social, economic, and ecological benefits. However, there are still some problems that continue to hinder the construction of smart cities. This paper examines such problems in depth and proposes some relevant countermeasures and suggestions.

Ma Hongqi

Strategic Study of CAE 2011, Volume 13, Issue 12,   Pages 15-19

Abstract:

This paper introduces the major domestic achievements on underground projects and technology. As cities are faced with a series of social and environmental problems, such as speeding up of urbanization, shortage of resources, worsening of environment and soil declination, underground space will soon be developed and utilized as a new form of national resources, and the demand for underground projects has a huge potential. The paper elaborates on the fundamental scientific and critical technological problems in the research of underground project technological innovations.

Wang Zherong

Strategic Study of CAE 2002, Volume 4, Issue 11,   Pages 7-11

Abstract:

As a complex weapon system integrated with optical/mechanical/hydraulic technology, main battle tank (MBT) has powerful fire, high mobility and integrated protection. This paper described the status of MBT in the war and its performance characteristics. On the basis of analysis of existing problems and development tendency of current MBT, the author put forward that in order to meet the operational requirements of the future high-technology war the next generation MBT should be low-profiled, light, digital and stealthy.

Development trend of urban design in “digital age”: Pan-dimensionality and individual-ubiquity

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2021, Volume 15, Issue 3,   Pages 569-575 doi: 10.1007/s11709-021-0735-7

Abstract: The wave of “digital age” featuring digital information is coming. Digital technology is profoundly changing the societal development direction and evolution paths. It also has significant bearing on production modes, social interactions and lifestyles. With regard to urban design, a system of knowledge about the creation and adaptation of material space forms that integrate humanities, art, technology and materials, digital technology has provided it with a brand-new and revolutionary scientific impetus for its evolution. The result of this evolution is “digital urban design paradigm based on human-computer interaction”, i.e., the urban development is moving toward “pan-dimensionality” and “individual ubiquity”. The future of urban design will construct a new approach to urban research and engineering, which is more complex, capable of accommodating and compatible with multiple goals of “instrumental rationality” and “value rationality”. Such a new approach shall be led by the probabilistic theory of “gray scale thinking”, reflecting quaternary synergetic view of “scientific rationality, ecological rationality, cultural rationality and technical rationality” to realize the cognitive progress of “engineering for the benefit of mankind”.

Ground-to-Air Radar Jamming Syste——Functions in Current Local Conflict and Its Development Trend

Zhang Xixiang

Strategic Study of CAE 2000, Volume 2, Issue 7,   Pages 55-65

Abstract:

This paper describes the development of the ground-to-air jammer. Initially this equipment can only jam the bomb-aiming radar, but now it has evolved into a ground-to-air jamming system or series, which can jam a variety of radars , including airborne radar on combat aircraft, missile guidance radar, precise guid-ance radar, AW ACS radar and sat ellite-borne radar, etc. The paper analyzes the jamming conception, methods and jamming station configuration against these types of radars.

The paper provides the conceptual analysis of the jamming suppression factors taken for jamming new types of radars, derives their mathematical expressions, and gives both the computer-simulated result and real-test result to further prove the confidence of the theoretical analysis.

The paper notes that in 2 current conflicts in 1990s, the intruders won the wars with very low loss rate (only several parts of ten thousands), because the other side had not equipped with the ground-to-air jamming systems. If they had got the ground-to-air jamming equipment deployed in their air defense system, they would have supported their air defense system to function well, reduced their own loss rate, increased the enemy´s loss, and made intruders not to win so easily.

The paper concludes that the ground-to-air jamming system plays a very important role in the national defense. It has both defensive and offensive functions with its 3D jamming capabilities. Also it is very, cost effective and quite suitable for the developing countries. The ground-to-air jamming system will have a bright future.
