Role of oxygen vacancy inducer for graphene in graphene-containing anodes

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2023, Volume 17, Issue 3,   Pages 326-333 doi: 10.1007/s11705-022-2213-8

Abstract: Currently, graphene is only considered as a conductive additive and expansion inhibitor in oxides/graphene composite anodes. In this study, a new graphene role (oxygen vacancy inducer) in graphene/oxides composites anodes, which are treated at high-temperature, is proposed and verified using experiments and density functional theory calculations. During high-temperature processing, graphene forms carbon vacancies due to increased thermal vibration, and the carbon vacancies capture oxygen atoms, facilitating the formation of oxygen vacancies in oxides. Moreover, the induced oxygen vacancy concentrations can be regulated by sintering temperatures, and the behavior is unaffected by oxide crystal structures (crystalline and amorphous) and morphology (size and shape). According to density functional theory calculations and electrochemical measurements, the oxygen vacancies enhance the lithium-ion storage performance. The findings can result in a better understanding of graphene’s roles in graphene/oxide composite anodes, and provide a new method for designing high-performance oxide anodes.

Optimizing iodine capture performance by metal–organic framework containing with bipyridine units

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2023, Volume 17, Issue 4,   Pages 395-403 doi: 10.1007/s11705-022-2218-3

Abstract: Radioactive iodine exhibits medical values in radiology, but its excessive emissions can cause environmental pollution. Thus, the capture of radioiodine poses significant engineering for the environment and medical radiology. The adsorptive capture of radioactive iodine by metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) has risen to prominence. In this work, a Th-based MOF (denoted as Th-BPYDC) was structurally designed and synthesized, consisting of [Th63-O)43-OH)4(H2O)6]12+ clusters, abundant bipyridine units, and large cavities that allowed guest molecules diffusion and transmission. Th-BPYDC exhibited the uptake capacities of 2.23 g·g−1 and 312.18 mg·g−1 towards I2 vapor and I2 dissolved in cyclohexane, respectively, surpassing its corresponding analogue Th-UiO-67. The bipyridine units boosted the adsorption performance, and Th-BPYDC showed good reusability with high stability. Our work thus opened a new way for the synthesis of MOFs to capture radioactive iodine.

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2008, Volume 2, Issue 4,   Pages 412-416 doi: 10.1007/s11705-008-0073-5

Abstract: A novel series of polybenzazoles with rigid-rod benzoxazole cycle and soft methylene segment was designed and synthesized via solution condensation polymerizations from 4,6-diamino-1,3-benzenediol diphosphate, terephthalic acid and aliphatic dicarboxylic acid. The structures of polybenzazoles were characterized by means of FT-IR, H NMR and Wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXRD). All the polymers show excellent thermal stability and the s was above 471°C. The intrinsic viscosities [] of the polymers ranged from 0.8 to 0.9. The UV-Vis absorption peaks of the polymers in MSA were blue-shifted from 429 nm for PBO to 291 nm for PBOC7, and the Stokes shifts in PL spectra enlarged.
