Efficient Configuration Space Construction and Optimization for Motion Planning Article

Jia Pan, Dinesh Manocha

Engineering 2015, Volume 1, Issue 1,   Pages 46-57 doi: 10.15302/J-ENG-2015009

Abstract:

The configuration space is a fundamental concept that is widely used in algorithmic robotics. Many applications in robotics, computer-aided design, and related areas can be reduced to computational problems in terms of configuration spaces. In this paper, we survey some of our recent work on solving two important challenges related to configuration spaces: ① how to efficiently compute an approximate representation of high-dimensional configuration spaces; and ② how to efficiently perform geometric proximity and motion planning queries in high-dimensional configuration spaces. We present new configuration space construction algorithms based on machine learning and geometric approximation techniques. These algorithms perform collision queries on many configuration samples. The collision query results are used to compute an approximate representation for the configuration space, which quickly converges to the exact configuration space. We also present parallel GPU-based algorithms to accelerate the performance of optimization and search computations in configuration spaces. In particular, we design efficient GPU-based parallel k-nearest neighbor and parallel collision detection algorithms and use these algorithms to accelerate motion planning.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2021, Volume 22, Issue 12,   Pages 1551-1684 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2000608

Abstract: Motivated by the inconvenience or even inability to explain the mathematics of the state of (FSMs) in most existing results, we consider the problem by viewing FSMs as logical dynamic systems. Borrowing ideas from the concept of equilibrium points of dynamic systems in control theory, the concepts of -equivalent states and -source equivalent states are introduced. Based on the state transition dynamic equations of FSMs proposed in recent years, several mathematical formulations of -equivalent states and -source equivalent states are proposed. These can be analogized to the necessary and sufficient conditions of equilibrium points of dynamic systems in control theory and thus give a mathematical explanation of the optimization problem. Using these mathematical formulations, two methods are designed to find all the -equivalent states and -source equivalent states of FSMs. Further, two ways of reducing the state space of FSMs are found. These can be implemented without computers but with only pen and paper in a mathematical manner. In addition, an open question is raised which can further improve these methods into unattended ones. Finally, the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed methods are verified by a practical language model.

Abstract:

Owing to historical reasons and investment restrictions, China’s aerospace industry initially focused on space technology and application, with insufficient emphasis on space science; therefore, space science, technology, and application developed independently. The development of space technology should be deeply integrated into space science and application, thus to strengthen China’s aerospace industry and create new opportunities and achievements. This study explores the implications of space science, space technology, and space application and clarifies their interrelationships. Moreover, it systematically analyzes the development trend in space science, technology, and application worldwide and reviews the development situation of space-related fields in China. Based on this, it examines the necessity for coordinating the development of space science, technology, and application in China and summarizes the major challenges. Considering their overlapping needs and mutual promotion, space science, technology, and application should be coordinated throughout the process of planning, deployment, and implementation. First, the advantages of the new national system should be exploited to conduct top-level planning under unified management. Second, the innovation-driven development strategy should be insisted to promote the international competitiveness of China’s aerospace industry through technological progress. Third, basic research in the space field should be strengthened and high-level scientists and engineers should be cultivated. Lastly, resource planning and coordination should be strengthened to promote the rational opening and full utilization of space application data.

Strategic Study of CAE 2022, Volume 24, Issue 6,   Pages 137-145 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2022.06.012

Abstract:

Traffic congestion and environmental pollution restrain the high-quality development of cities and the improvement of residents' living quality. A transit-oriented-development (TOD) model that integrates transportation with land use is key to solving the abovementioned problems. This study uses mechanism analysis to investigate the relationship between transportation and land use, analyzes the differences between TOD and conventional models regarding land use patterns and population distribution, and investigates the population distribution characteristics of the TOD model and its coupling relationship with transportation. Moreover, the current status and problems of TOD in China are analyzed through case study, indicating that the implications, development goals, and paths of TOD models vary for different scenarios. Additionally, a reasonable urban spatial structure is proposed comprising urban spatial structures at three levels: urban agglomerations, metropolitan and downtown areas, and rail transit stations and their surrounding areas. The basic ideas, planning and design principles, and implementation paths for the deep integration of the proposed structure with transportation are explored. Furthermore, we suggest that measures should be taken in terms of management planning, laws and policies, standards and specifications, benefit distribution, planning approval, incentive mechanism, and public participation, thereby providing support for TOD model application and for improving urban construction.

Strategic Study of CAE 2023, Volume 25, Issue 2,   Pages 243-253 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2023.07.014

Abstract:

The human‒coal space relationship is significant for the safe and efficient production of coalmines. Reconstructing the human‒coal space order using intelligent technologies in coalmines will provide a core technical support for the high-quality development of the coal industry. This study examines the evolution and research progress of the human‒coal space relationship and proposes a human‒physical‒information (HPC) space form to break constraints from the traditional human‒physical space structure of coalmines. We find that coalmine intellectualization can change the physical locations and relative motions of coalmine production factors; it can reconstruct the three major factors of production, establish an integrated intelligent production management mode, and improve the development space of miners’ social values, thereby achieving an interconnection-of-everything production scene and liberating human from underground mining. Moreover, the study analyzes intelligent coal-mining and intelligent well-construction cases and reveals the practical values of coal mine intellectualization for the change of the human‒coal space relationship. We suggest that a development mode integrating new-generation technologies and modern coalmines should be established based on the intelligent HPC space theory of coalmines and by targeting human liberation and comprehensive development. This will promote the safe, efficient, intelligent, and green development and thus the overall upgrading of the coal industry.

Cyberspace Endogenous Safety and Security Article

Jiangxing Wu

Engineering 2022, Volume 15, Issue 8,   Pages 179-185 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2021.05.015

Abstract:

Uncertain security threats caused by vulnerabilities and backdoors are the most serious and difficult problem in cyberspace. This paper analyzes the philosophical and technical causes of the existence of so-called “dark functions” such as system vulnerabilities and backdoors, and points out that endogenous security problems cannot be completely eliminated at the theoretical and engineering levels; rather, it is necessary to develop or utilize the endogenous security functions of the system architecture itself. In addition, this paper gives a definition for and lists the main technical characteristics of endogenous safety and security in cyberspace, introduces endogenous security mechanisms and characteristics based on dynamic heterogeneous redundancy (DHR) architecture, and describes the theoretical implications of a coding channel based on DHR.

Improved dynamic grey wolf optimizer Research Articles

Xiaoqing Zhang, Yuye Zhang, Zhengfeng Ming,249140543@qq.com

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2021, Volume 22, Issue 6,   Pages 887-890 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2000191

Abstract: In the standard (GWO), the search wolf must wait to update its current position until the comparison between the other search wolves and the three leader wolves is completed. During this waiting period, the standard GWO is seen as the static GWO. To get rid of this waiting period, two dynamic GWO algorithms are proposed: the first dynamic (DGWO1) and the second dynamic (DGWO2). In the dynamic GWO algorithms, the current search wolf does not need to wait for the comparisons between all other search wolves and the leading wolves, and its position can be updated after completing the comparison between itself or the previous search wolf and the leading wolves. The position of the search wolf is promptly updated in the dynamic GWO algorithms, which increases the iterative convergence rate. Based on the structure of the dynamic GWOs, the performance of the other improved GWOs is examined, verifying that for the same improved algorithm, the one based on dynamic GWO has better performance than that based on static GWO in most instances.
