Adsorption properties of polycarboxylate ether-based superplasticizer on cement particles and their resultant

摘要: The cement dispersion performance of a polycarboxylate (PCE)-based superplasticizer is highly related to their adsorption behaviors as a function of time. This study evaluated effects of PCEs on rheological properties of cementitious materials. First, characteristics of PCEs were characterized via permeation chromatography (GPC) and Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry (FT-IR). The adsorption behavior of single and blended PCEs on cementitious composites was identified using total organic carbon analyzer (TOC). Based on the measurement of PCE adsorption, the changes of rheological properties of cementitious materials as well as the number of dispersed cement particles were characterized using a rheometer and laser spectroscopy, respectively. The experimental results support the systematic mechanism of PCE adsorption, cement dispersion, and the decrease in viscosity of cementitious materials.

An experimental study for optimization of high range water reducing superplasticizer in self compacting

摘要: Concrete is extensively used construction material in the infrastructure development industry. With increase in technical knowhow, the need of research for high performance concretes such as self-compacting concrete (SCC) has increased in the last decade. The adaptability of SCC is due to its fluidic behavior in fresh state. However, to develop SCC using indigenous materials, the lack of standardized mix design procedures is the biggest impediment. Although with the advent of chemical admixtures, it is possible to achieve concrete with high fluidity, but at the same time durability issues require more attention. To have these fresh state properties SCC mixes are typically designed with high powder contents, and chemical admixtures. Proportioning and optimization of these materials is a key issue in the mix design of SCC. This paper focuses mainly on experimental study to optimize dosages of superplasticizer for mortar of SCC and then in concrete mixture itself.

Accelerated engineering properties of high and low volume fly ash concretes reinforced with glued steel fibers

摘要: The present study focuses on the improvement of pozzolanic reaction of fly ash particles with the cement hydration products. Low and high volume fly ash concrete mixtures were studied systematically with the addition of accelerating admixtures and accelerated curing of the concrete specimens in a steam chamber for 18 h at 75°C. Also, the reinforcing effects of glued steel fibers addition on the compressive and flexural performance of fly ash concrete were investigated. The test results indicated that the addition of accelerator improved the rate of hardening and the inclusion of steel fibers provided higher flexural performance. Also, it can be noted that the high volume fly ash (50%) addition in concrete showed a reduction in strength; however, the addition of accelerator has compensated the deceleration in strength gain. The proper selection of concrete ingredients, addition of accelerator and initial steam curing for 18 h showed better improvement on the engineering properties in fly ash concrete. A maximum increase (41.7%) in compressive strength of fly ash concrete around 52.90 MPa was noticed for 25% fly ash substitution and 1.5% steel fibers addition. Dynamic elastic modulus was also calculated in loaded concrete specimen using ultrasonic pulse velocity test and showed a good agreement with the experimental value.
