Frontiers of Engineering Management   Pages 640-652 doi: 10.1007/s42524-022-0228-y

Abstract: As the number of Apps continuously increases, effective large-scale App governance is a major challengeWe introduce Privacy Level (P-Level) to measure an App’s probability of leaking privacy. The former considers App permission setting, whereas the latter considers App usage.of Apps under the levels given in the PL standard, which may provoke insights into the large-scale App

Pore structure of cementitious material enhanced by graphitic nanomaterial: a critical review

S.A. GHAHARI, E. GHAFARI, L. ASSI

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2018, Volume 12, Issue 1,   Pages 137-147 doi: 10.1007/s11709-017-0431-9

Abstract: Carbon nano tubes (CNT) has been introduced as an efficient nanomaterial in order to improve the mechanical and durability properties of concrete. The effect of CNT on the microstructures of cementitious materials has been widely reported. This paper combines a critical review on the effect of CNT on the pore and microstructure of cement composite with a discussion on the porosity measurement of pastes containing CNT using mercury intrusion porosimetry techniques (MIP). It was found that, surface treatment by H SO and HNO solution forms carboxyl acid groups on CNTs’ surfaces that lead to the improvement of reinforcement. In this scope, this review paper involves analyzing the effect of CNT on the microstructure and the pore structure of cementitious materials. The existing methods of measuring the porosity of cementitious material are reviewed, in particular, the contact angle measurement is discussed in detail in which the most effective parameters and possible errors of calculation is presented.

Estimation of the Impact of Traveler Information Apps on Urban Air Quality Improvement Article

Wenke Huang, Mingwei Hu

Engineering 2018, Volume 4, Issue 2,   Pages 224-229 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2018.03.003

Abstract:

With the rapid growth of vehicle population and vehicle miles traveled, automobile emission has become a severe issue in the metropolitan cities of China. There are policies that concentrate on the management of emission sources. However, improving the operation of the transportation system through apps on mobile devices, especially navigation apps, may have a unique role in promoting urban air quality. Real-time traveler information can not only help travelers avoid traffic congestion, but also advise them to adjust their departure time, mode, or route, or even to cancel trips. Will such changes in personal travel patterns have a significant impact in decreasing emissions? If so, to what extent will they impact urban air quality? The aim of this study is to determine how urban traffic emission is affected by the use of navigation apps. With this work, we attempt to answer the question of whether the real-time traffic information provided by navigation apps can help to improve urban air quality. Some of these findings may provide references for the formulation of urban traffic and environmental policies.

CO2 capture using membrane contactors: a systematic literature review

Sanaa Hafeez, Tayeba Safdar, Elena Pallari, George Manos, Elsa Aristodemou, Zhien Zhang, S. M. Al-Salem, Achilleas Constantinou

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2021, Volume 15, Issue 4,   Pages 720-754 doi: 10.1007/s11705-020-1992-z

Abstract: With fossil fuel being the major source of energy, CO emission levels need to be reduced to a minimal amount namely from anthropogenic sources. Energy consumption is expected to rise by 48% in the next 30 years, and global warming is becoming an alarming issue which needs to be addressed on a thorough technical basis. Nonetheless, exploring CO capture using membrane contactor technology has shown great potential to be applied and utilised by industry to deal with post- and pre-combustion of CO . A systematic review of the literature has been conducted to analyse and assess CO removal using membrane contactors for capturing techniques in industrial processes. The review began with a total of 2650 papers, which were obtained from three major databases, and then were excluded down to a final number of 525 papers following a defined set of criteria. The results showed that the use of hollow fibre membranes have demonstrated popularity, as well as the use of amine solvents for CO removal. This current systematic review in CO removal and capture is an important milestone in the synthesis of up to date research with the potential to serve as a benchmark databank for further research in similar areas of work. This study provides the first systematic enquiry in the evidence to research further sustainable methods to capture and separate CO .
