Decoration of CdMoO micron polyhedron with Pt nanoparticle and their enhanced photocatalytic performance

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2023, Volume 17, Issue 12,   Pages 1949-1961 doi: 10.1007/s11705-023-2360-6

Abstract: This study aimed to prepare and apply a novel Pt/CdMoO4 composite photocatalyst for photocatalytic N2 fixation and tetracycline degradation. The Pt/CdMoO4 composite was subjected to comprehensive investigation on the morphology, structure, optical properties, and photoelectric chemical properties. The results demonstrate the dispersion of Pt nanoparticles on the CdMoO4 surface. Close contact between CdMoO4 and Pt was observed, resulting in the formation of a heterojunction structure at their contact region. Density functional theory calculation and Mott-Schottky analysis revealed that Pt possesses a higher work function value than CdMoO4, resulting in electron drift from CdMoO4 to Pt and the formation of a Schottky barrier. The presence of this barrier increases the separation efficiency of electron-hole pairs, thereby improving the performance of the Pt/CdMoO4 composite in photocatalysis. When exposed to simulated sunlight, the optimal Pt/CdMoO4 catalyst displayed a photocatalytic nitrogen fixation rate of 443.7 μmol·L‒1·g‒1·h‒1, which is 3.2 times higher than that of pure CdMoO4. In addition, the composite also exhibited excellent performance in tetracycline degradation, with hole and superoxide species identified as the primary reactive species. These findings offer practical insights into designing and synthesizing efficient photocatalysts for photocatalytic nitrogen fixation and antibiotics removal.

Should medium-sized contractors still implement home-made information technologies on construction sites

Frontiers of Engineering Management 2020, Volume 7, Issue 1,   Pages 142-158 doi: 10.1007/s42524-019-0065-9

Abstract: Despite the increasing dissemination of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) approach, many firms are still far from BIM and are only starting to adopt information technologies. We conducted an ethnographic action research with an industrial partner that implements information technologies on its construction sites, with a strong preference for home-made applications. Results show that the development of such applications faces difficulties and that multiple iterations and versions are necessary before achieving the expected goals because the required competencies are lacking among internal development teams. Moreover, initial needs evolve considerably throughout the application’s development and evaluation process. However, notwithstanding the difficulties encountered during the different application development phases, the industrial partner believes the decision to be worthwhile because of the desire to have internal control over the project data and the need to consider certain specificities related to business processes.

Enhanced methanation stability of nano-sized MoS

Zhenhua LI, Jia HE, Haiyang WANG, Baowei WANG, Xinbin MA

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2015, Volume 9, Issue 1,   Pages 33-39 doi: 10.1007/s11705-014-1446-6

Abstract: A series of unsupported MoS catalysts with or without Al O modification was prepared using a modified thermal decomposition approach. The catalysts were tested for the methanation of carbon monoxide and the optimum one has 25.6 wt-% Al O content. The catalysts were characterized by nitrogen adsorption measurement, X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The results show that adding appropriate amount of Al O increases the dispersion of MoS , and the increased interaction force between MoS and Al O can inhibit the sintering of active MoS to some extent.

An automated arc spray tooling system for rapid die-making of large-sized automobile body panels

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2006, Volume 1, Issue 2,   Pages 209-214 doi: 10.1007/s11465-006-0012-4

Abstract: A creative robot wrist consisting of link mechanisms and a novel robot motion control method based on the cross-sectional vector contours of an STL-formatted model was proposed. By using the wrist and the control method, an industrial robot with five degrees of freedom for rapid tooling using metal arc spraying and electric brush plating techniques was developed. The wrist of the robot including a specially designed link mechanism can maintain the position of the spraying point on the surface of the master pattern whatever the orientation of the gun. Therefore, the kinematic nonlinear coupling between the position mechanism and orientation mechanism in a traditional robot can be avoided. The only input of the control system is the STL-formatted 3D CAD model of the pattern. Without the need of any manual programming, the metal arc spraying and brush plating (if necessary) processes can be performed automatically and efficiently after receiving the 3D CAD data of the pattern. Using this robot system in new car development and trial production, the cost and lead-time can be reduced substantially as compared with the conventional tool making method.

Micro-sized hydrothermal carbon supporting metal oxide nanoparticles as efficient catalyst for mono-dehydration

Cheng PAN, Chao FAN, Wanqin WANG, Teng LONG, Benhua HUANG, Donghua ZHANG, Peigen SU, Aqun ZHENG, Yang SUN

Frontiers in Energy 2022, Volume 16, Issue 5,   Pages 822-839 doi: 10.1007/s11708-020-0677-0

Abstract: Most known catalytic dehydration of sugar alcohols such as D-sorbitol and D-mannitol can only produce di-dehydrated forms as major product, but mono-dehydrated products are also useful chemicals. Moreover, both di- and mono-dehydration demand a high temperature (150°C or higher), which deserves further attentions. To improve the mono-dehydration efficiency, a series of metal-containing hydrothermal carbonaceous materials (HTC) are prepared as catalyst in this work. Characterization reveals that the composition of preparative solution has a key influence on the morphology of HTC. In transformation of D-sorbitol, all HTC catalysts show low conversions in water regardless of temperature, but much better outputs are obtained in ethanol, especially at a higher temperature. When D-mannitol is selected as substrate, moderate to high conversions are obtained in both water and ethanol. On the other hand, high mono-dehydration selectivity is obtained for both sugar alcohols by using all catalysts. The origin of mono-dehydration selectivity and role of carbon component in catalysis are discussed in association with calculations. This study provides an efficient, mild, eco-friendly, and cost-effective system for mono-dehydration of sugar alcohols, which means a lot to development in new detergents or other fine chemicals.
