Absolute yield and land use efficiency can be higher in multicrops. Though this phenomenon is common, it is not always the case. Also, these two benefits are frequently confused and do not necessarily occur together. Cropping choices become more complex when considering that multicrops are subject to strong spatial and temporal variation in average soil moisture, which will worsen with climate change. Intercropping in agroecosystems is expected to buffer this impact by favoring resistance to reduced humidity, but there are few empirical/experimental studies to validate this claim. It is not clear if relatively higher multicrop yield and land use efficiency will persist in the face of reduced soil moisture, and how the relation between these benefits might change. Here, we present a relatively simple framework for analyzing this situation. We propose a relative multicrop resistance (RMR) index that captures all possible scenarios of absolute and relative multicrop overyield under water stress. We dissect the ecological components of RMR to understand the relation between higher multicrop yield and land use efficiency and the ecological causes of different overyield scenarios. We demonstrate the use of this framework with data from a 128 microplot greenhouse experiment with small annual crops, arranged as seven-species multicrops and their corresponding monocrops, all under two contrasting watering regimes. We applied simple but robust statistical procedures to resulting data (based on bootstrap methods) to compare RMR, and its components, between different plants/plant parts. We also provide simple graphical tools to analyze the data.

In order to analyze the value of the commercial navigation through the Arctic sea routes, this paper summarizes the challenges of the utilizing the Arctic sea routes through various analytical modes, including institutional analysis and cost benefit analysis of the traditional sea routes and the Arctic sea routes. The paper proposes that the 'One Belt One Road' Strategy should develops and utilize the Arctic sea routes. These sea routes could extend the connections of the Silk Road Economic Belt and become an expansion for the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road as an important part of China's foreign trade network. Therefore, the strategic value of the Arctic sea routes should be prioritized as a key part of the 'One Belt One Road' initiative.

Strategic Study of CAE 2015, Volume 17, Issue 9, Pages 18-28
The “golden triangle” in terms of energy is in the crisis of development opportunity and the large-scale energy development leads a rapid economic development, so it takes a critical strategic position in energy structure of China. This paper elaborates the regional developing situation and comparative advantages on the development of energy, economy and society in this area, emphasizes severe homogenization on industrial structure, wasteful development of energy resource, disordered competition of coal conversion industry, high pressure of energy export, water shortage, and vulnerable ecological environment faced in the regional development. And it proposes strategic thinking of “overall plan, scientific development, ordered conversion, distribution optimization, multi-function synergy, low carbon ecology” to build the energy “golden triangle” pilot region for comprehensive reforms and promote regional integration development, and provides reference for promoting regional industry up gradation and sustainable development.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) develops rapidly in recent years in China; meanwhile, it faces new challenges and shoulders new historical missions. Moreover, the inheritance and innovation of TCM is crucial for the promotion of the Healthy China initiative. To continuously promote the high-quality development of TCM, this study analyzes the current status and development problems of TCM development from the aspects of theoretic innovation, clinical advantages and evaluation, TCM resource development and utilization, intelligent manufacturing, and globalization. Furthermore, six countermeasures are proposed. First, efforts should focus on the theoretical research of TCM, and a population-based TCM health program is suggested. Second, the existing management mechanisms and systems should be innovated, and innovation trials conducted in key evaluation systems and methods. Third, the TCM talent team construction should be strengthened to improve the clinical diagnosis and treatment levels and scientific research and development of TCM. Fourth, domestic and international resources can be integrated to stimulate the vitality of the TCM industry and promote the comprehensive development and utilization of TCM resources. Fifth, intelligent manufacturing of TCM should be emphasized, and innovative development of theoretical research, technical systems, and personnel training should be coordinated. Sixth, the globalization of TCM should be promoted to realize the integration of TCM with international traditional and modern medicine.
