Low powered blockchain consensus protocols based on consistent hash Research Article

Lei Yu, Xiao-fang Zhao, Yan Jin, Heng-yi Cai, Bo Wei, Bin Hu,yulei@ncic.ac.cn

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2019, Volume 20, Issue 10,   Pages 1361-1377 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1800119

Abstract: Current s have a triangle of contradictions in aspects of decentralization, security, and energy con-sumption, and cannot be synchronously optimized. We describe a design of two new s, called “CHB-consensus” and “CHBD-consensus,” based on a algorithm. Honest miners can fairly gain the opportunity to create blocks. They do not consume any extra computational power resources when creating new blocks, and such blocks can obtain the whole network to confirm consensus with fairness. However, malicious miners have to pay massive computational power resources for attacking the new block creation privilege or double-spending. networks formed by CHB-consensus and CHBD-consensus are based on the same security assumption as that in Bitcoin systems, so they save a huge amount of power without sacrificing decentralization or security. We analyze possible attacks and give a rigorous but adjustable validation strategy. CHB-consensus and CHBD-consensus introduce a certification authority (CA) system, which does not have special management or control rights over networks or data structures, but carries the risk of privacy breaches depending on credibility and reliability of the CA system. Here, we analyze the robustness and energy consumption of CHB-consensus and CHBD-consensus, and demonstrate their advantages through theoretical derivation.

Areliable power management scheme for consistent hashing based distributed key value storage systems Article

Nan-nan ZHAO,Ji-guang WAN,Jun WANG,Chang-sheng XIE

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2016, Volume 17, Issue 10,   Pages 994-1007 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1601162

Abstract: Distributed key value storage systems are among the most important types of distributed storage systems currently deployed in data centers. Nowadays, enterprise data centers are facing growing pressure in reducing their power consumption. In this paper, we propose GreenCHT, a reliable power management scheme for consistent hashing based distributed key value storage systems. It consists of a multi-tier replication scheme, a reliable distributed log store, and a predictive power mode scheduler (PMS). Instead of randomly placing replicas of each object on a number of nodes in the consistent hash ring, we arrange the replicas of objects on nonoverlapping tiers of nodes in the ring. This allows the system to fall in various power modes by powering down subsets of servers while not violating data availability. The predictive PMS predicts workloads and adapts to load fluctuation. It cooperates with the multi-tier replication strategy to provide power proportionality for the system. To ensure that the reliability of the system is maintained when replicas are powered down, we distribute the writes to standby replicas to active servers, which ensures failure tolerance of the system. GreenCHT is implemented based on Sheepdog, a distributed key value storage system that uses consistent hashing as an underlying distributed hash table. By replaying 12 typical real workload traces collected from Microsoft, the evaluation results show that GreenCHT can provide significant power savings while maintaining a desired performance. We observe that GreenCHT can reduce power consumption by up to 35%–61%.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2023, Volume 24, Issue 3,   Pages 457-469 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2200361

Abstract:

cellular automata (QCA)%29&ck%5B%5D=abstract&ck%5B%5D=keyword'> is a new nanotechnology for the implementation of nano-sized digital circuits. This nanotechnology is remarkable in terms of speed, area, and power consumption compared to complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology and can significantly improve the design of various logic circuits. We propose a new method for implementing a in QCA technology in this paper. The proposed method uses the intrinsic features of QCA in timing and clock phases, and therefore, the proposed cell structure is less occupied and less power-consuming than existing implementation methods. In the proposed , compared to previous best designs, reductions of 6.45% in area occupation and 44.49% in power consumption were achieved. In addition, for the first time, a reset-based and a with set and reset capabilities are designed. Using the proposed , a new 3-bit is developed which reduces 2.14% cell numbers compared to the best of previous designs. Moreover, based on the 3-bit , a 4-bit is designed, which reduces 0.51% cell numbers and 4.16% cross-section area compared to previous designs. In addition, two selective s are introduced to count from 0 to 5 and from 2 to 5. Simulations were performed using and tools in coherence vector engine mode. The proposed circuits are compared with related designs in terms of delay, cell numbers, area, and leakage power.

Research on Features of Energy Utilized in the Field of Consumption

Jiang Yi,Zhu Andong and Guo Siyue

Strategic Study of CAE 2015, Volume 17, Issue 8,   Pages 122-131

Abstract:

According to the features of using process, the energy use could be divided into two categories including the energy use in the field of consumption (EUFC) to provide services and the energy using in the field of production (EUFP) to provide products. The feature of EUFC is different with EUFP, including evaluation methods, energy saving approach and developing strategy, etc. Considering its potential to be the main growing sector in the next period of energy consumption, more attention should be paid to EUFC. In this paper, based on the analysis of its features, the measure of EUFC and the energy saving approach are recommended, as well as the suggestions to the present situation in China.

Chen Qidong and Zuo Zhiquan

Strategic Study of CAE 2014, Volume 16, Issue 2,   Pages 58-67

Abstract:

Numerical simulation and calculation were performed on the gas-phase flow field of the straight tangential cyclone with single entry, straight tangential cyclone with double entries, bias tangential cyclone with single entry, bias tangential cyclone with double entries, bias tangential helicoidal cyclone with single entry, bias tangential helicoidal cyclone with double entries by using RSM model. Results showed that, the pressure field and velocity field of the cyclone with double entries had better symmetry and stability;only changing the inlet angle had a limited influence on the pressure field and velocity field. When the tangential velocity distribution were similar in the six kinds of cyclone studied in this article, compared with other cyclones’, the pressure drop of the bias tangential helicoidal cyclone decreased about 25 %;the inlet total pressure needed was about 17 % lower;the energy consumption dropped about 17 %. Moreover, bias tangential helicoidal cyclone with double entries(XS-L type)had a better energy efficiency ratio, and its performance was the most excellent.

China building energy conservation stratagems study

Jiang Yi

Strategic Study of CAE 2011, Volume 13, Issue 6,   Pages 30-38

Abstract:

The state of current China building energy use is presented. It is classified into the energy for space heating in North urban buildings, energy for space heating in Yangtze River area, energy for urban residential buildings, energy for non-residential buildings as well as energy for rural residential buildings. The characters, problems and key points for saving energy for each classification above were discussed in detail. Comparison with real building energy data in developed countries was also made in order to get clear idea on current China building energy state. It shows that current China building energy use is much lower than developed countries whatever in terms of per capita or in terms of building floor area. This is mainly due to the different lifestyles and different modes of building use. It is important to maintain the thrift mode in China in order to achieve the Chinese building energy conservation target. This should be the start point to design Chinese building energy strategy. As different lifestyles and different building use modes do need different technique measures, we should develop our own approach to realize their low building energy use target rather than follow the approaches that what happened in the developed countries.

Sustainable Development Model of Production Increase with Energy Conservation in Wuhan Iron and Steel Corp. (WISCO)

Dai Lin,Zhou Huoqing,Tian Zhiyu

Strategic Study of CAE 2006, Volume 8, Issue 12,   Pages 31-38

Abstract:

In March 2006,《The Outline of the 11th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and social Development (Profile)》stated that energy consumption per unit of GDP will be reduced by about 20% in “The 11th Five-year Plan ” period, which indicates the economic growth is transferring from conventional industrialization to new pattern. Due to the economic structure emerging with high energy intensity in “The 10th Five-year Plan”period, the proportion of energy consumption of industrial sector had gradually increased from 68.63% to about 71% of the national energy consumption. Apparently, iron and steel industry had experienced its rapid growth with the steel output increasing from 128.5 million tons to 352.39 million tons and the annual growth rate of 22.36% . Its energy consumption accounted for 21 % of the whole industrial energy consumption. Therefore, how to realize the sustainable development of increasing the output while reducing the energy consumption in those high-energy intensity enterprises would provide the good reference to the industrial sector, even to the whole country. Based on the investigation and analysis on WISCO, some important inspiration and experiences were summarized.

An international comparative study on the scope of China’s energy development

Du Xiangwan,Liu Xiaolong,Yang Bo,Wang Zhenhai,Kang Jincheng

Strategic Study of CAE 2013, Volume 15, Issue 6,   Pages 4-10

Abstract:

An international comparative analysis aimed at perspectives on China's energy development scope is presented in this paper. By comparing the development course of the energy consumption of the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan, we find that although these countries have achieved the same level of development, they have made major differences in per capita energy consumption. Based on this, we propose the concept of "two types of developed countries", which we describe as "America and Canada model" and "Europe and Japan model "(the latter can be further broken into the "Europe model" and the "Japan model"). The reasons for the consumption differences of the different models are analyzed separately in industry, transport, residential, commercial and public services end-use sectors. In conclusion, based on the comparative analysis of those developed countries and China's actual conditions, the paper proposes that China's growth scope of per capita energy consumption is less than her per capita energy consumption in 2010, and several suggestions for the energy development are given.
