Xiangsheng Chen

Engineering 2018, Volume 4, Issue 1,   Pages 103-111 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2017.08.001

Abstract:

Given the increasingly notable segmentation of underground space by existing subway tunnels, it is difficult to effectively and adequately develop and utilize underground space in busy parts of a city. This study presents a combined construction technology that has been developed for use in underground spaces; it includes a deformation buffer layer, a special grouting technique, jump excavation by compartment, back-pressure portal frame technology, a reinforcement technique, and the technology of a steel portioning drum or plate. These technologies have been successfully used in practical engineering. The combined construction technology presented in this paper provides a new method of solving key technical problems in underground spaces in effectively used cross-subway tunnels. As this technology has achieved significant economic and social benefits, it has valuable future applications.

Strategic Study of CAE 2005, Volume 7, Issue 2,   Pages 91-96

Abstract:

A series of simulation experiments, carried out on the scale model of subway station passageway are described, in which wood crib fires are used as the evolvement process of subway fire. Temperature relative value is provided to analyze the law of smoke temperature along the station passageway in subway fire and its affecting factors. Based on images collected, the conditions needful for coming into being smoke layer and the applicability of zone model are discussed in the investigation of smoke properties in subway fire. Otherwise, it is also indicated from the results of smoke component measurements that CO concentration at the exit rises with stepwise change.

Automatic risk identification and safety early-warning of underground construction under complex conditions

Ding Lieyun,Zhou Cheng

Strategic Study of CAE 2012, Volume 14, Issue 12,   Pages 85-93

Abstract:

One of the most important problems in safety management of metro construction is the insufficient collection and usage of construction safety information, so that the safety control of metro construction is still “in the black box”. Therefore, the presented research applies information technology to safety control of metro construction, which includes: a. For safety risk identification before construction, we proposed a novel approach to automatically identify construction safety risk out of engineering drawings with information technology. Then the safety knowledge of metro construction could be accumulating, sharing and reusing more accurate and effective. b. For risk early-warning during construction, we brought up an approach based on safety risk information fusion and temporal-spatial coupling for metro construction, which is able to effectively identify and track dangerous construction process and locations dynamically. c. For special sections of high risk, we developed the integrated control techniques of automatic monitoring and real-time early-warning for metro construction. The system send any early-warning information to construction workers on site, so that controlling methods and emergency moves can be applied in real time to ensure construction safety. The research achievements are successfully applied in the metro construction in Wuhan, Shenyang, Kunming, Zhengzhou, etc. in China.

Engineering 2019, Volume 5, Issue 2,   Pages 329-336 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2018.12.007

Abstract:

The internal flow field study of car compartments is an important step in railroad vehicle design and optimization. The flow field profile has a significant impact on the temperature distribution and passenger comfort level. Experimental studies on flow field can yield accurate results but carry a high time and computational cost. In contrast, the numerical simulation method can yield an internal flow field profile in less time than an experimental study. This study aims to improve the computational efficiency of numerical simulation by adapting two simplified models—the porous media model and the porous jump face model—to study the internal flow field of a railroad car compartment. The results provided by both simplified models are compared with the original numerical simulation model and with experimental data. Based on the results, the porous media model has a better agreement with the original model and with the experimental results. The flow field parameters (temperature and velocity) of the porous media model have relatively small numerical errors, with a maximum numerical error of 4.7%. The difference between the numerical results of the original model and those of the porous media model is less than 1%. By replacing the original numerical simulation model with the porous media model, the flow field of subway car compartments can be calculated with a reduction of about 25% in computing resources, while maintaining good accuracy.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2020, Volume 21, Issue 8,   Pages 1119-1266 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1900242

Abstract: Smartphone, as a smart device with multiple built-in sensors, can be used for collecting information (e.g., vibration and location). In this paper, we propose an approach for using the smartphone as a sensing platform to obtain real-time data on vehicle acceleration, velocity, and location through the development of the corresponding application software and thereby achieve the green concept based monitoring of the track condition during rail transit. Field tests are conducted to verify the accuracy of in terms of the obtained data’s standard deviation (SD), Sperling index (SI), and International Organization for Standardization (ISO)-2631 weighted acceleration index (WAI). A vehicle-positioning method, together with the coordinate alignment algorithm for a Global Positioning System (GPS) free tunnel environment, is proposed. Using the time-domain integration method, the relationship between the longitudinal acceleration of a vehicle and the location is established, and the distance between adjacent stations of the is calculated and compared with the actual values. The effectiveness of the method is verified, and it is confirmed that this approach can be used in the GPS-free tunnel environment. It is also found that using the proposed vehicle-positioning method, the integral error of displacement of a single section can be controlled to within 5%. This study can make full use of and offer a smart and eco-friendly approach for human life in the field of intelligent transportation systems.

Strategic Study of CAE 2014, Volume 16, Issue 11,   Pages 58-64

Abstract:

Reduce the blasting vibration is important for blasting excavation in subway tunnel construction. Take the 3rd bid section of Line 3 of Qingdao subway project for example, the distance between tunnel vault and ground is 5~8m, in order to insure the safety of the upper buildings, technologies of parallel cut with big empty hole, one-time initiation and delay by parts, and multiply short holes were adopted in the project. The results show that the maximum value of vertical vibration limited in the criterion allowance, and the upper buildings was intact. Besides, problems of shock conducting tube detonator delay number difficulty to meet large cross-section tunnel blasting excavation requirements, multiple cross-section can’t initiation simultaneous, and low construction efficiency were solved, which ensure the construction safety and schedule.

Strategic Study of CAE 2004, Volume 6, Issue 10,   Pages 59-64

Abstract:

The management of subway tunnel fire smoke is an important component in city public safety. In this paper, on the basis of theoretical analysis of the main factors affecting fire smoke flow in a subway tunnel, the ventilation and exhaust system were considered as a whole and the effects of buoyancy and thermal resistance were introduced. Further, a mathematical model was established to express the relationships between the critical environments, critical velocities, air speeds, smoke speeds and fire intensities. The results can provide instructions for tunnel smoke managements and emergency handling.
