Research on recycled concrete and its utilization in building structures in China

摘要: Large quantities of construction and demolition (C&D) building waste are being generated as a result of rapid urbanization and natural disasters in China. An increasing awareness of environmental protection is escalating C&D waste disposal concerns. This paper presents a brief introduction to current shaking table test research in China on structures built with recycled aggregate concrete (RAC). Test structures include a cast-in situ frame model, a precast frame model and a block masonry building. The test results prove that it is feasible to use RAC as a structural material in seismic areas, with recommended modifications and proper design, especially in low-rise structures. This paper also presents several successful applications of RAC in civil and structural engineering projects in China, which will serve to promote RAC as a global ecological structural material.

Prediction on CO

摘要: Carbonation of concrete is a process which absorbs carbon dioxide (CO ). Recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) may own greater potential in CO uptake due to the faster carbonation rate than natural aggregate concrete (NAC). A quantitative model was employed to predict the CO uptake of RAC in this study. The carbonation of RAC and the specific surface area of recycled coarse aggregates (RCAs) were tested to verify accuracy of the quantitative model. Based on the verified model, results show that the CO uptake capacity increases with the increase of RCA replacement percentage. The CO uptake amount of 1 m C30 RAC within 50 years is 10.6, 13.8, 17.2, and 22.4 kg when the RCA replacement percentage is 30%, 50%, 70%, and 100%, respectively. The CO uptake by RCAs is remarkable and reaches 35.8%–64.3% of the total CO uptake by RAC when the RCA storage time being 30 days. Considering the fact that the amount of old hardened cement paste in RCAs is limited, there is an upper limit for the CO uptake of RCAs.

Three-scale stochastic homogenization of elastic recycled aggregate concrete based on nano-indentation digital images

摘要: In this paper, three-scale stochastic elastic finite element analyses are made for recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) based on nano-indentation digital images. The elastic property of RAC contains uncertainties across scales. It has both theoretical and practical values to model and predict its mechanical performance. Based on homogenization theory, effective stochastic elastic moduli of RAC at three different scales are obtained using moving window technique, nano-indentation digital images, and Monte-Carlo method. It involves the generation of a large number of random realizations of microstructure geometry based on different volume fraction of the inclusions and other parameters. The mean value, coefficient of variation and probability distribution of the effective elastic moduli are computed considering the material multiscale structure. The microscopic randomness is taken into account, and correlations of RAC among five phases are investigated. The effective elastic properties are used to obtain the global behavior of a composite structure. It is indicated that the response variability can be considerably affected by replacement percentage of recycled aggregates.

摘要: In this paper, the effect of micro-structural uncertainties of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) on its global stochastic elastic properties is investigated via finite pixel-element Monte Carlo simulation. Representative RAC models are randomly generated with various distribution of aggregates. Based on homogenization theory, effects of recycled aggregate replacement rate, aggregate volume fraction, the unevenness of old mortar, proportion of old mortar, aggregate size and elastic modulus of aggregates on overall variability of equivalent elastic properties are investigated. Results are in a good agreement with experimental data in literature and finite pixel-element method saves the computation cost. It is indicated that the effect of mesoscopic randomness on global variability of elastic properties is considerable.

再生与原生混凝土结构构件统一设计理论的基础问题 Article

摘要:

再生混凝土作为一种低碳混凝土,成为近20年来国内外的研究热点,但是目前再生混凝土结构的设计仍是一个挑战。本文从原生与再生混凝土结构构件统一设计的新需求出发,剖析了两者统一设计的必要性,并从强度取值、受压本构关系以及结构构件设计方法等方面进行了深入论证。分析发现,再生混凝土的强度变异系数总体上高于原生混凝土,再生混凝土的抗压强度及抗拉强度代表值的定义和取值方法与原生混凝土一致;原生与再生混凝土的单轴受压本构关系具有统一的数学表达形式,但与原生混凝土相比,再生混凝土弹性模量降低、脆性增加。最后,提出了再生混凝土构件安全可靠度调整系数,实现了再生与原生混凝土构件承载力设计公式的统一,并从概念设计和构造措施上,论证了考虑时变强度与钢筋锈蚀等影响的时变可靠度统一的可行性。本文的工作,丰富和发展了混凝土结构基本理论。
