Parametric study on the Multangular-Pyramid Concave Friction System (MPCFS) for seismic isolation

摘要: A series of comprehensive parametric studies are conducted on a steel-frame structure Finite-Element (FE) model with the Multangular-Pyramid Concave Friction System (MPCFS) installed as isolators. This new introduced MPCFS system has some distinctive features when compared with conventional isolation techniques, such as increased uplift stability, improved self-centering capacity, non-resonance when subjected to near-fault earthquakes, and so on. The FE model of the MPCFS is first established and evaluated by comparison between numerical and theoretical results. The MPCFS FE model is then incorporated in a steel-frame structural model, which is subjected to three chosen earthquakes, to verify its seismic isolation. Further, parametric study with varying controlling parameters, such as isolation foundation, inclination angle, friction coefficient, and earthquake input, is carried out to extract more detailed dynamic response of the MPCFS structure. Finally, limitations of this study are discussed, and conclusions are made. The simulations testify the significant seismic isolation of the MPCFS. This indicates the MPCFS, viewed as the beneficial complementary of the existing well-established and matured isolation techniques, may be a promising tool for seismic isolation of near-fault earthquake prone zones. This verified MPCFS FE model can be incorporated in future FE analysis. The results in this research can also guide future optimal parameter design of the MPCFS.

Beyond bag of latent topics: spatial pyramid matching for scene category recognition

摘要: We propose a heterogeneous, mid-level feature based method for recognizing natural scene categories. The proposed feature introduces spatial information among the latent topics by means of spatial pyramid, while the latent topics are obtained by using probabilistic latent semantic analysis (pLSA) based on the bag-of-words representation. The proposed feature always performs better than standard pLSA because the performance of pLSA is adversely affected in many cases due to the loss of spatial information. By combining various interest point detectors and local region descriptors used in the bag-of-words model, the proposed feature can make further improvement for diverse scene category recognition tasks. We also propose a two-stage framework for multi-class classification. In the first stage, for each of possible detector/descriptor pairs, adaptive boosting classifiers are employed to select the most discriminative topics and further compute posterior probabilities of an unknown image from those selected topics. The second stage uses the prod-max rule to combine information coming from multiple sources and assigns the unknown image to the scene category with the highest ‘final’ posterior probability. Experimental results on three benchmark scene datasets show that the proposed method exceeds most state-of-the-art methods.

Error measurement and assemble error correction of a 3D-step-gauge

摘要: A new artifact called 3D-step-gauge consisting of a pyramid array and a compound, is proposed to calculate geometrical errors for machine tools. Only one point on each profile of the pyramid in the array is probed, and its center coordinate can be calculated. Then, the intervals of the pyramids can be transfered a length standard to measure errors. Considering the differences in the structural parameters and the location of the pyramids, a volumetric error measurement method of discrete points is presented. Furthermore, the location errors between the calibration state and the measurement state are studied and their influences on the accuracy of the position measurement are investigated on an actual machine tool. The 3D-step-gauge was tested on an actual machine tool and the measurement result shows quick assembly, convenient measurement, and high accuracy.

摘要: 在低光环境下拍摄的图像质量不佳,影响其进一步应用。为提升低光图像可视性,提出一种基于过滤—群聚注意力(FCA)的递归网络,其中主体由3个单元组成:差异关注、门控递归以及迭代残差。该网络对低光图像进行多阶段递归学习,进而提取更深层次特征信息。为算得更加精确的相关性,设计了一种关注特征通道突出性的FCA。FCA与自注意力被用以突出特征的低光区域与重要通道。此外,设计了密集连接金字塔(DenCP)来提取低光反转图的色彩特征,使图像的色彩信息损失得以补偿。在6种公开数据集上的实验结果表明,本文方法在视觉和指标上有着突出表现。
