Big Data to support sustainable urban energy planning: The EvoEnergy project

摘要: Energy sustainability is a complex problem that needs to be tackled holistically by equally addressing other aspects such as socio-economic to meet the strict CO emission targets. This paper builds upon our previous work on the effect of household transition on residential energy consumption where we developed a 3D urban energy prediction system (EvoEnergy) using the old UK panel data survey, namely, the British household panel data survey (BHPS). In particular, the aim of the present study is to examine the validity and reliability of EvoEnergy under the new UK household longitudinal study (UKHLS) launched in 2009. To achieve this aim, the household transition and energy prediction modules of EvoEnergy have been tested under both data sets using various statistical techniques such as Chow test. The analysis of the results advised that EvoEnergy remains a reliable prediction system and had a good prediction accuracy (MAPE  5%) when compared to actual energy performance certificate data. From this premise, we recommend researchers, who are working on data-driven energy consumption forecasting, to consider merging the BHPS and UKHLS data sets. This will, in turn, enable them to capture the bigger picture of different energy phenomena such as fuel poverty; consequently, anticipate problems with policy prior to their occurrence. Finally, the paper concludes by discussing two scenarios of EvoEnergy development in relation to energy policy and decision-making.

Impact of household transitions on domestic energy consumption and its applicability to urban energyplanning

摘要: The household sector consumes roughly 30% of Earth’s energy resources and emits approximately 17% of its carbon dioxide. As such, developing appropriate policies to reduce the CO emissions, which are associated with the world’s rapidly growing urban population, is a high priority. This, in turn, will enable the creation of cities that respect the natural environment and the well-being of future generations. However, most of the existing expertise focuses on enhancing the thermal quality of buildings through building physics while few studies address the social and behavioral aspects. In fact, focusing on these aspects should be more prominent, as they cause between 4% and 30% of variation in domestic energy consumption. Premised on that, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect in the context of the UK of household transitions on household energy consumption patterns. To achieve this, we applied statistical procedures (e.g., logistic regression) to official panel survey data comprising more than 5500 households in the UK tracked annually over the course of 18 years. This helped in predicting future transition patterns for different household types for the next 10 to 15 years. Furthermore, it enabled us to study the relationship between the predicted patterns and the household energy usage for both gas and electricity. The findings indicate that the life cycle transitions of a household significantly influence its domestic energy usage. However, this effect is mostly positive in direction and weak in magnitude. Finally, we present our developed urban energy model “EvoEnergy” to demonstrate the importance of incorporating such a concept in energy forecasting for effective sustainable energy decision-making.

Climate change and China’s mega urban regions

摘要: China’s mega urban regions are focal points of economic development and environmental concerns. This paper positions four mega urban regions (i.e., the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta, the Bohai Bay Area, and the South-eastern Fujian Province) along China’s coast into the national economy and elaborates their development challenges and planning innovations. Mega urban regions in China are spatial consequences of rapid economic transition. They deserve close scrutiny and demands for innovative planning responses in order to maintain their key role in driving economic growth but limiting their greenhouse gas emission.

合理利用天然气是东部大城市急待解决的问题。指出燃气部分取代燃煤,不应该是简单的燃料替换,而应充分利用燃气的特点。提出分户式燃气炉采暖、“以电定热”的热电联产系统和分布式小型CHP系统等合理应用燃气的方式,可改善城市空气质量,解决城市供热问题,削减电力负荷峰谷差。

Framework, model and algorithm for the global control of urban automated driving traffic

摘要: Automated driving has recently attracted significant attention. While considerable research has been conducted on the technologies and societal acceptance of autonomous vehicles, investigations into the control and scheduling of urban automated driving traffic are still nascent. As automated driving gains traction, urban traffic control logic is poised for substantial transformation. Presently, both manual and automated driving predominantly operate under a local decision-making traffic mode, where driving decisions are based on the vehicle’s status and immediate environment. This mode, however, does not fully exploit the potential benefits of automated driving, particularly in optimizing road network resources and traffic efficiency. In response to the increasing adoption of automated driving, it is essential for traffic bureaus to initiate proactive dialogs regarding urban traffic control from a global perspective. This paper introduces a novel global control mode for urban automated driving traffic. Its core concept involves the central scheduling of all autonomous vehicles within the road network through vehicle-infrastructure cooperation, thereby optimizing traffic flow. This paper elucidates the mechanism and process of the global control mode. Given the operational complexity of expansive road networks, the paper suggests segmenting these networks into multiple manageable regions. This mode is conceptualized as an autonomous vehicle global scheduling problem, for which a mathematical model is formulated and a modified A-star algorithm is developed. The experimental findings reveal that (i) the algorithm consistently delivers high-quality solutions promptly and (ii) the global scheduling mode significantly reduces traffic congestion and equitably distributes resources. In conclusion, this paper presents a viable and efficacious new control mode that could substantially enhance urban automated traffic efficiency.

Energy storage resources management: Planning, operation, and business model

摘要: With the acceleration of supply-side renewable energy penetration rate and the increasingly diversified and complex demand-side loads, how to maintain the stable, reliable, and efficient operation of the power system has become a challenging issue requiring investigation. One of the feasible solutions is deploying the energy storage system (ESS) to integrate with the energy system to stabilize it. However, considering the costs and the input/output characteristics of ESS, both the initial configuration process and the actual operation process require efficient management. This study presents a comprehensive review of managing ESS from the perspectives of planning, operation, and business model. First of all, in terms of planning and configuration, it is investigated from capacity planning, location planning, as well as capacity and location combined planning. This process is generally the first step in deploying ESS. Then, it explores operation management of ESS from the perspectives of state assessment and operation optimization. The so-called state assessment refers to the assessment of three aspects: The state of charge (SOC), the state of health (SOH), and the remaining useful life (RUL). The operation optimization includes ESS operation strategy optimization and joint operation optimization. Finally, it discusses the business models of ESS. Traditional business models involve ancillary services and load transfer, while emerging business models include electric vehicle (EV) as energy storage and shared energy storage.

Energy-saving operation approaches for urban rail transit systems

摘要: With the accelerated urbanization in China, passenger demand has dramatically increased in large cities, and traffic congestion has become serious in recent years. Developing public urban rail transit systems is an indispensable approach to overcome these problems. However, the high energy consumption of daily operations is an emerging issue due to increased rail transit networks and passenger demands. Thus, reducing the energy consumption and operational cost by using advanced optimization methodologies is an urgent task for operation managers. This work systematically introduces energy-saving approaches for urban rail transit systems in three aspects, namely, train speed profile optimization, utilization of regenerative energy, and integrated optimization of train timetable and speed profile. Future research directions in this field are also proposed to meet increasing passenger demands and network-based urban rail transit systems.

An uncertain energy planning model under carbon taxes

摘要: In this study, an interval fuzzy mixed-integer energy planning model (IFMI-EPM) is developed under considering the carbon tax policy. The developed IFMI-EPM incorporates techniques of interval-parameter programming, fuzzy planning and mixed-integer programming within a general energy planning model. The IFMI-EPM can not only be used for quantitatively analyzing a variety of policy scenarios that are associated with different levels of carbon tax policy, but also tackle uncertainties expressed as discrete intervals and fuzzy sets in energy and environment systems. Considering low, medium and high carbon tax rates, the model is applied to an ideal energy and environment system. The results indicate that reasonable solutions have been generated. They can be used for generating decision alternatives and thus help decision makers identify desired carbon tax policy.

Toward energy-efficient urban rail transit with capacity constraints under a public health emergency

摘要: Urban rail transit (URT) plays a pivotal role in mitigating urban congestion and emissions, positioning it as a sustainable transportation alternative. Nevertheless, URT’s function in transporting substantial numbers of passengers within confined public spaces renders it vulnerable to the proliferation of infectious diseases during public health crises. This study proposes a decision support model that integrates operational control strategies pertaining to passenger flow and train capacity utilization, with an emphasis on energy efficiency within URT networks during such crises. The model anticipates a URT system where passengers adhere to prescribed routes, adhering to enhanced path flow regulations. Simultaneously, train capacity utilization is intentionally limited to support social distancing measures. The model’s efficacy was assessed using data from the COVID-19 outbreak in Xi’an, China, at the end of 2021. Findings indicate that focused management of passenger flows and specific risk areas is superior in promoting energy efficiency and enhancing passenger convenience, compared to broader management approaches.

我国乡村规划的理论与应用研究

摘要:

本文按照我国城乡关系演进过程,将乡村规划理论演进划分为传统城乡交融背景下乡村建设(新中国成立前)、现代城乡分离背景下乡村规划(新中国成立后—2016年)和新时代城乡一体化背景乡村治理(2017年迄今)三个阶段,总结不同阶段乡村规划理论和乡村建设、管理特征。我国传统乡村规划理论包括以风水理论为基础的物质性规划建设理论和人文化治理思想与方法,两者相辅相成。建国以后,尤其是改革开放以来,乡村规划运用城市规划的相关理论指导乡村实践,在城乡关系的大背景下不断演进,通过乡村规划许可证实施简易化行政许可制度。近些年乡村规划脱胎于城市规划的反思与转型,融入多学科理论,探索发展本源。

我国城市地下空间规划发展战略研究

摘要:

本文首先综述了国际上各类城市地下空间的开发历程和经验,总结了我国城市地下空间开发利用状况和现阶段所取得的成绩。进一步地,指出了当前我国城市地下空间开发亟待解决的问题和发展方向:寻求地下空间统一和专项规划,实现地上与地下空间的协同开发;结合国情细化政策和法规,完善地下空间管理的机制和法制建设;建设地下空间信息化平台,高效利用地下空间大数据、消除信息孤岛现象。最后,明确了随着城市化及信息化技术的发展,城市地下空间开发将具有广阔的前景。

新发展阶段城市地下空间开发利用发展战略研究

摘要:

作为城市建设和国土空间资源的重要组成部分,城市地下空间开发利用在新发展阶段的地位和作用愈显突出。本文通过剖析新发展阶段的新需求和新问题,提出了城市地下空间开发利用的新发展策略。基于国土空间规划新体系,绿色、低碳、韧性新理念以及土地存量更新的新模式等新发展阶段的特征和要求,分析了城市高质量发展对地下空间开发利用的战略需求;提出了新发展阶段城市地下空间开发利用需要解决的一系列新生问题,包括国土空间资源禀赋调查评价不足、承载能力概念不清,城市地下空间的绿色低碳韧性挖潜不充分,城市地下基础设施资源配置不均衡、发展机理机制不明确等。在此基础上,从治理体系建设、资源智慧管理、规划理论方法、数据驱动范式、深层空间利用、存量空间重构、新区一体化开发及地铁域控制等8 个方面阐释了新发展阶段城市地下空间开发利用的重点任务和发展建议,以期为实现城市地下空间的立法为本、规划引领、建设有序和管理智慧提供有益借鉴。

人们对环境问题和可再生能源(RES)增长的认识在不断深入,使得能源生产领域开始转向RES如光伏发电(PV)系统,并朝着分布式发电(DG)的能源生产模式迈进,这种模式要求能源在本地产生、储存和消耗。本研究提出了一种将基于地理信息系统(GIS)的光伏发电潜力评估程序与能源生产和消费概况估算模型相结合的方法。特别地,创建了一种新的基础设施,可在分析家庭用电需求的同时,协同仿真建筑物屋顶的光伏发电集成。本文所提出的模型基于高时空分辨率,并考虑了阴影的影响以及真实天空条件下的太阳辐射估算。该模型结合了多种以高时间分辨率估算能源需求的方法,并考虑了真实人口的现实消费情况。这套方案提出具体建议,以促进对城市能源系统的了解,并在未来智慧城市的背景下整合RES。在意大利都灵市对所提出的方法进行了测试和验证。估算了整个城市居住区(仿真现实人口)消耗的电能,以及在建筑物屋顶安装光伏系统可产生的电能(考虑了两种不同的方案,前者仅适用于住宅建筑物的屋顶,后者适用于所有可用的屋顶)。通过对所得结果进行深入分析,考察了该平台的功能。介绍了生成的电力和能源概况,强调了时空分辨率结果的灵活性。此外,还介绍了其他能源指标,如生产能源中的自我消耗和避免二氧化碳排放。
