Abstract:

In order to solve the problem of residents' difficulties in affording expensive medical treatment, we build a community-hospital concept model of a secondary medical service system, and establish a function model and a referral mechanism for patients' preferences. Taking Jiading District in Shanghai as an example, we make use of the AnyLogic system modeling software and demonstrate how this model can be used to study the effect of different medical cooperation modes and medical reform policies through the introduction of actual case data. Our results show that promoting the quality of primary medical care services and increasing the reimbursement ratio of medical insurance can effectively improve the efficiency of the whole medical service system.

Current Status and Development Strategies of General Practitioner Training in China

Abstract:

After nearly 30 years of exploration and practice, a “5+3” and “3+2” general practitioner (GP) training mode has been preliminarily established in China. However, China still lacks qualified GPs. In this paper, after analyzing the current situation of GP training in China, we found that the post of GP is unattractive in China; the GP training system is incomplete and lacks a process assessment mechanism; the certification and re-certification mechanisms of training bases are incomplete; and the continuous vocational development education needs to be standardized. Then, we summarize the experiences of some major countries in the world, and propose the following policy recommendations: improving the remuneration of GPs, establishing a comprehensive GP training system focusing on post competence, establishing a normalized assessment and certification mechanism for GP training bases, and setting up continuous vocational education bases for GPs.

Hybrid deep learning model for risk prediction of fracture in patients with diabetes and osteoporosis

Abstract: The fracture risk of patients with diabetes is higher than those of patients without diabetes due to hyperglycemia, usage of diabetes drugs, changes in insulin levels, and excretion, and this risk begins as early as adolescence. Many factors including demographic data (such as age, height, weight, and gender), medical history (such as smoking, drinking, and menopause), and examination (such as bone mineral density, blood routine, and urine routine) may be related to bone metabolism in patients with diabetes. However, most of the existing methods are qualitative assessments and do not consider the interactions of the physiological factors of humans. In addition, the fracture risk of patients with diabetes and osteoporosis has not been further studied previously. In this paper, a hybrid model combining XGBoost with deep neural network is used to predict the fracture risk of patients with diabetes and osteoporosis, and investigate the effect of patients’ physiological factors on fracture risk. A total of 147 raw input features are considered in our model. The presented model is compared with several benchmarks based on various metrics to prove its effectiveness. Moreover, the top 18 influencing factors of fracture risks of patients with diabetes are determined.

Abstract:

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been developing rapidly in recent years in terms of software algorithms, hardware implementation, and applications in a vast number of areas. In this review, we summarize the latest developments of applications of AI in biomedicine, including disease diagnostics, living assistance, biomedical information processing, and biomedical research. The aim of this review is to keep track of new scientific accomplishments, to understand the availability of technologies, to appreciate the tremendous potential of AI in biomedicine, and to provide researchers in related fields with inspiration. It can be asserted that, just like AI itself, the application of AI in biomedicine is still in its early stage. New progress and breakthroughs will continue to push the frontier and widen the scope of AI application, and fast developments are envisioned in the near future. Two case studies are provided to illustrate the prediction of epileptic seizure occurrences and the filling of a dysfunctional urinary bladder.
