A Further Discussion on Trends in the Development of Advanced Manufacturing Technology

YANG Shu-zi, WU Bo, LI Bin

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2006, Volume 1, Issue 1,   Pages 1-5 doi: 10.1007/s11465-005-0002-y

Abstract:

This paper is a supplement to Trends in the Development of Advanced Manufacturing Technology (Yang and Wu in Chin. J. Mech. Eng., 39: 73, 2003) but delves deeper into it. It first points out the strategic status of manufacturing industry in state development. Then, a detailed analysis is given on the features and trends in the development of advanced manufacturing technology in a total of 12 points from three aspects: precision, extreme, and culture from the aspect of the product itself; green, rapidness, saving, and efficiency during the manufacturing process; and digit, auto, integration, networking, and intelligence in view of the manufacturing method. In addition, it emphasizes that all the above aspects should be based on two base points: manufacture and machinery. Finally, it puts forth the guiding ideologies for the development of advanced manufacturing technology and the aspects China should give priority to in development, while stressing on the principles of independence, innovation and human orientation.

A preliminary analysis and discussion of the condominium building collapse in surfside, Florida, US,

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2021, Volume 15, Issue 5,   Pages 1097-1110 doi: 10.1007/s11709-021-0766-0

Abstract: On June 24, 2021, a 40-year-old reinforced concrete flat plate structure building in Miami suffered a sudden partial collapse. This study analyzed the overall performance and key components of the collapsed building based on the building design codes (ACI-318 and GB 50010). Punching shear and post-punching performances of typical slab-column joints are also studied through the refined finite element analysis. The collapse process was simulated and visualized using a physics engine. By way of these analyses, weak design points of the collapsed building are highlighted. The differences between the reinforcement detailing of the collapsed building and the requirements of the current Chinese code are discussed, together with a comparison of the punching shear and post-punching performances. The simulated collapse procedure and debris distribution are compared with the actual collapse scenes.

Panos M. PARDALOS, Mahdi FATHI

Frontiers of Engineering Management 2018, Volume 5, Issue 4,   Pages 515-523 doi: 10.15302/J-FEM-2018044

Abstract:

Non-convex optimization can be found in several smart manufacturing systems. This paper presents a short review on global optimization (GO) methods. We examine decomposition techniques and classify GO problems on the basis of objective function representation and decomposition techniques. We then explain Kolmogorov’s superposition and its application in GO. Finally, we conclude the paper by exploring the importance of objective function representation in integrated artificial intelligence, optimization, and decision support systems in smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0.

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2007, Volume 2, Issue 3,   Pages 251-262 doi: 10.1007/s11465-007-0044-4

Abstract: Advanced manufacturing consists of continuity of manufacturing, its broad sense, and the core of the manufacturing process. The technology of continuous manufacturing is discussed according to both historical and modern perspectives. The relationship between human development and manufacturing technology is also discussed. Manufacturing is a continuously evolving topic. It is not only the foundation and means of imagination, conception, the science, and the technology of material change, but also the expression of national economy, national defense, and the support industries. The broad sense of manufacturing theory, which extends the concept of manufacturing, is an important development in the 20th century. The sense is analyzed in connection with design, material forming theory, synthesis of manufacturing technology, manufacturing modes, life cycle of product, hardware and software, and support environment, etc. At the same time, the core action and the development of the theory and technology of process is also discussed. At the end of this paper, the development directions of mechanical manufacturing science and technology are mentioned.

China’s Sponge City construction: A discussion on technical approaches

Haifeng Jia, Zheng Wang, Xiaoyue Zhen, Mike Clar, Shaw L. Yu

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2017, Volume 11, Issue 4, doi: 10.1007/s11783-017-0984-9

Abstract: Since 2014, China has been implementing the Sponge City Construction initiative, which represents an enormous and unprecedented effort by any government in the world for achieving urban sustainability. According to preliminary estimates, the total investment on the Sponge City Plan is roughly 100 to 150 million Yuan (RMB) ($15 to $22.5 million) average per square kilometer or 10 Trillion Yuan (RMB) ($1.5 Trillion) for the 657 cities nationwide. The Sponge City Plan (SCP) calls for the use of natural processes such as soil and vegetation as part of the urban runoff control strategy, which is similar to that of low impact development (LID) and green infrastructure (GI) practices being promoted in many parts of the world. The SCP includes as its goals not only effective urban flood control, but also rainwater harvest, water quality improvement and ecological restoration. So far, the SCP implementation has encountered some barriers and challenges due to many factors. The present paper presents a review of those barriers and challenges, offers discussions and recommendations on several technical aspects such as control goals and objectives; planning/design and construction of LID/GI practices; performance evaluation. Several key recommendations are proposed on Sponge City implementation strategy, Site-specific regulatory framework and technical guidance, Product innovation and certification, LID/GI Project financing, LID/GI professional training and certification, public outreach and education. It is expected that the successful implementation of the SCP not only will bring about a sustainable, eco-friendly urbanization process in China, but also contribute enormously to the LID/GI research and development with the vast amount of relevant data and experiences generated from the Sponge City construction projects.

Da-di Zhou

Frontiers of Engineering Management 2014, Volume 1, Issue 2,   Pages 147-152 doi: 10.15302/J-FEM-2014022

Abstract: Energy is an important basis for economic and social development, and is a critical economic sector. Due to the complexity of the energy system, the interactive relationship with economic and social development, and the enormous investment involved, the optimization of the energy system is of great significance. We should make efforts to develop targets and specific approaches for the rational and optimal development of an energy system in order to avoid big losses due to systematic mistakes.

Strategic Study of CAE 2012, Volume 14, Issue 1,   Pages 60-64

Abstract:

Different industry has different calculation method for bearing capacity of pile. Industry of railway, high way and building treat the tip bearing capacity of pile in different ways. DX pile is a new kind of varied cross-section pile. Applying calculation methods in the specification of these three industries on DX pile will induce significant different results. Quan Yongshen

Strategic Study of CAE 2000, Volume 2, Issue 4,   Pages 75-82

Abstract:

Many cities in China are now experiencing the booming period of metro construction. A critical and urgent problem is how to work out a sound network planning for the metro system before the concrete line implementation. Based on the experiences of metro network planning in China these years, the paper intends to explore some critical issues in this field. That includes the reasoning of the rational scale of the metro system, the spacial form and framework planning and the integration of the metro system with other public transport systems in the city.

Discussion About Influence of Microgrid Number on Microsegregation Simulation

Liu Yonggang,Sun Yu,Sun Guoxiong

Strategic Study of CAE 2004, Volume 6, Issue 2,   Pages 77-81

Abstract:

Micro simulation of solidification process is one of the focuses in material field, and simulation on microsegregation forming has important effect on directing materials processing. But papers about this field were seldom found on domestic publications. Influence of micro time steps on microsegregation simulation results was investigated in this paper and it is pointed out that the relation between the micro time steps and the microsegregation simulation results is weak for iterative method based microsegregation simulation. It is not necessary for using a large number of micro grids to converge the calculated results.
