Strategic Study of CAE 2018, Volume 20, Issue 5,   Pages 45-51 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2018.05.007

Abstract:

As the two largest “granaries” in China, the Northeast and Huang-Huai-Hai Plains are the main agricultural producing areas in North China, and the soil environmental risk management and control of these areas are vital to the national food security supply lifeline. This study analyzed the soil heavy metal pollution risks of main agricultural producing areas in North China by the potential ecological risk index method. The high-risk areas of Cd pollution are mainly distributed in Shenyang City in the east of Liaohe Plain, Jinzhou City and Huludao City in the south of Liaohe Plain, Shuangyashan in the Sanjiang Plain, Tianjin City in the Haihe Plain, and Xinxiang City in the southwest of the yellow river flood plain; Hg pollution high-risk areas are mainly distributed in Beijing and Tianjin of the Haihe Plain, and around the Shenyang City of the Liaohe Plain. The chemical industry, followed by the livestock and poultry industry, as well as the metal smelting and processing industry, is the major potential source of heavy metal pollution of soil in the Northeast and Huang-Huai-Hai Plains. This study proposed the “one area, one policy” pollution prevention strategy and key environmental protection projects from the aspects of environment monitoring and warning of agricultural products producing areas, clean production of industrial and mining enterprises, and comprehensive treatment of livestock and poultry pollution, which is based on local conditions and classification guidance. This study can provide important references for the strategic planning of sustainable development of the ecological environment of major agricultural producing areas in North China.

Engineering 2023, Volume 24, Issue 5,   Pages 202-212 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2022.01.015

Abstract:

The river networks in the plains of China are in low-lying terrain with mild bed slopes and weak hydrodynamics conditions. Filled with intense human activities, these areas are characterized by serious water security problems, e.g., frequent floods, poor water self-purification capabilities, and fragile water ecosystems. In this paper, it’s found that all these problems are related to hydrodynamics, and the spatiotemporal imbalance of river network hydrodynamics is identified as the common cause of these water-related problems. From this, a theory for the hydrodynamic reconstruction of plain river networks is proposed. In addition to the importance of the flow volume, this theory highlights the role of hydrodynamics and limited energy in improving the ecological water environment. The layout of water conservancy project systems (e.g., sluices and pumping stations) is optimized to fully tapping the potential integrative benefit of projects. The optimal temporal and spatial distributions of hydrodynamic patterns is reconstructed in order to meet the needs of the integrated management of complex water-related problems in river networks. On this basis, a complete theoretical method and technical system for multiscale hydrodynamic reconstruction and multi-objective hydraulic regulation in plain river networks with weak hydrodynamics is established. The principles of the integrated management of water problems in river network areas are put forward. The practical application and efficacy of the theory are demonstrated through a case study aiming to improve the water quality of the river network in the main urban area of Yangzhou City.

Strategic Study of CAE 2010, Volume 12, Issue 6,   Pages 113-116

Abstract:

Comparing the total pollution load into rivers in 2005 with the one in 2000, the analysis suggests that the percentage of point sources in total kept reducing year by year, and the non-point sources increased significantly, especially total phosphorus (TP) whose amount of pollution from non-point sources have already exceeded that from point sources. The total amount of pollution from non-point sources was almost equal, but its composition changed. The pollution from rural domestic sewage ranks first and the pollution from aquaculture and fields ranks second in the total amount of pollution from non-point sources. Based on the analysis of causes of non-point sources pollution, this essay gives some suggestion on the control of non-point sources pollution in plain river network of Taihu Basin.

Spatial Variability and Distribution of Nitrate Content of Shallow Groundwater in Huang-Huai-Hai Plain

Li Baoguo,Bai Youlu,Hu Kelin,Huang Yuanfang,Chen Deli

Strategic Study of CAE 2001, Volume 3, Issue 4,   Pages 42-45

Abstract:

The spatial variability and distribution of NO3- N in shallow groundwater in Huang-Huai-Hai Plain were studied by means of GPS and GIS technology. The results indicated that it did not show a spatial structure at the sampling density of 35~50 km in shallow groundwater. The spatial variability of NO3-N content belonged to high intensity. The area of NO3—N concentration over 20 mg· L-1 was about 10% of the whole Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, and was mainly distributed in the zone from Tianjin to Jinan and Xincai, Fuyang and Bengbu in the Huaihe River Basin. The area of NO3-N content in the range of 10—20 mg·L-1 was distributed in the region from Xuzhou to Lianyungang in Jiangsu Province and Weifang,in Shandong Provence, which was about 11.5% of the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain. The NO3—N concentration in the shallow groundwater was related to the groundwater depth. The NO3-N concentration was usually over 20 mg·L-1 when the groundwater level was less 3 m, while the NO3—N content was less 10 mg·L-1 when the groundwater level was over 10 m. It implied that the affecting depth of the nitrate leaching on the groundwater was less than 10 m. These results were beneficial to making decision for increasing water and fertilizer utilization efficiency and to the sustaining agricultural development in Huang-Huai-Hai Plain.

Strategic Study of CAE 2022, Volume 24, Issue 5,   Pages 26-33 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2022.05.004

Abstract:

Water security in the Haihe River Basin is an important component of China's ecological civilization and is vital for highquality national development of the country. Considering the development requirement for water security in the Haihe River Basin, we analyzed the problems regarding water security assurance from the perspectives of water resources, water environment, water ecology, and flood disasters. Subsequently, we predicted the development trend of water security in the Haihe River Basin by 2035 through data simulation. On this basis, an overall idea was proposed, that is, assuring water security in the Haihe River Basin by reinforcing measures for protecting water ecology, and highlighting the role of water resources carrying capacity. Focus should be placed on developing capacities regarding (1) systematic allocation and efficient utilization of water resources, (2) comprehensive improvement in water environment, (3) governance and restoration of basin ecology, and (4) prevention and emergency response of flood disasters. Furthermore, we proposed the following suggestions from a technological perspective: (1) implementing new strategies for the conservation and efficient utilization of water resources, (2) ensuring drinking water safety and improving water governance capacities, (3) establishing a water ecological pattern that features people-water harmony, and (4) developing a flood disaster prediction and response mechanism.

Strategic Study of CAE 2002, Volume 4, Issue 6,   Pages 44-55

Abstract:

The author applies covertly and macroscopically the SPAC theory model to the water saving system of well irrigation rice in Sanjiang Plain. Several sub-systems have been taken as a whole large system, such as groundwater, machine well, sunning water pool, channel, field, environment and so on. Through applying modern building models and optimization technique, the author analyzes the mechanism and theory of each subsystem, some mathematical models about groundwater, sunning water pool, channel, water production function, water requirement and available rainfall have been built. At last, through designing the typical demonstration area, the author combines several water-saving techniques into a whole system. Thus, the goal of raising water temperature 5~15℃ , saving water 17.1% and increasing yield 700 ~1 000 kg/hm2 canbe reached.

High-precision Numerical Computation of High-degree Gauss quadrature Nodes

Zhang Qingli,Wang Xiaomei,Yin Shaotang,Jiang Haihe

Strategic Study of CAE 2008, Volume 10, Issue 2,   Pages 35-40

Abstract:

Gauss quadrature is used widely in many fields such as the engineering numerical computation, X-ray diffraction profile analysis, spectroscopy, and so on. The nodes and weight factors of Gauss-quadrature are essential data to the numerical integration. A method to compute the zeroes of the high-degree Legendre, Laguerre and Hermite polynomials, which are the nodes of Gauss-Legendre, Gauss-Laguerre and Gauss-Hermite Quadrature, respectively, is studied, and a very efficient algorithm scan-iteration method(SIM) is given. According to the properties of Legendre, Laguerre and Hermite polynomials, their definitions are modified a little, and the stable recursive relations to compute their value are obtained. To extract these polynomials, their root intervals are searched with a certain step within a certain range. After the intervals of all roots are obtained, the roots with the desired precision can be gotten by the general iteration methods such as secant or bisection method. Numerical experiments indicate that the method is very efficient and the high-precise roots of Legendre, Laguerre and Hermite polynomials can be extracted.

Spatial Discrimination of Complex, Low-Relief Quaternary Siliciclastic Strata Using Airborne Lidar and Near-Surface Geophysics: An Example from the Texas Coastal Plain, USA Article

Jeffrey G. Paine,Edward W. Collins,Lucie Costard

Engineering 2018, Volume 4, Issue 5,   Pages 676-684 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2018.09.005

Abstract:

Depositional units preserved on coastal plains worldwide control lithologic distribution in the shallow subsurface that is critical to infrastructure design and construction, and are also an important repository of information about the large-scale climate change that has occurred during many Quaternary glacialinterglacial cycles. The lateral and vertical lithologic and stratigraphic complexity of these depositional units and their response to climatic and sea-level change are poorly understood, making it difficult to predict lithologic distribution and to place historical and future climate and sea-level change within a natural geologic context. Mapping Quaternary siliciclastic depositional units on low-relief coastal plains traditionally has been based on their expression in aerial photographs and low-resolution topographic maps. Accuracy and detail have been hindered by low relief and lack of exposure. High-resolution airborne lidar surveys, along with surface and borehole geophysical measurements, are being used to identify subtle lateral and vertical boundaries of lithologic units on the Texas Coastal Plain within Quaternary strata. Ground and borehole conductivity measurements discriminate sandy barrier island and fluvial and deltaic channel deposits from muddy floodplain, delta-plain, and estuarine deposits. Borehole conductivity and natural gamma logs similarly distinguish distinct lithologic units in the subsurface and identify erosional unconformities that likely separate units deposited during different glacial-interglacial stages. High-resolution digital elevation models obtained from airborne lidar surveys reveal previously unrecognized topographic detail that aids identification of surface features such as sandy channels, clay-rich interchannel deposits, and accretionary features on Pleistocene barrier islands. An optimal approach to identify lithologic and stratigraphic distribution in low-relief coastal-plain environments employs ① an initial lidar survey to produce a detailed elevation model; ② selective surface sampling and geophysical measurements based on preliminary mapping derived from lidar data and aerial imagery; and ③ borehole sampling, logging, and analysis at key sites selected after lidar and surface measurements are complete.
