Forward link outage performance of aeronautical broadband satellite communications Research Articles

Huaicong Kong, Min Lin, Shiwen He, Xiaoyu Liu, Jian Ouyang, Weiping Zhu,linmin@njupt.edu.cn

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2021, Volume 22, Issue 6,   Pages 790-801 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2000445

Abstract: High-throughput satellites (HTSs) play an important role in future millimeter-wave (mmWave) aeronautical communication to meet high speed and broad bandwidth requirements. This paper investigates the outage performance of an aeronautical broadband satellite communication system’s forward link, where the feeder link from the gateway to the HTS uses and the user link from the HTS to aircraft operates at the mmWave band. In the user link, spot beam technology is exploited at the HTS and a massive antenna array is deployed at the aircraft. We first present a location-based beamforming (BF) scheme to maximize the expected output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the forward link with the amplify-and-forward (AF) protocol, which turns out to be a phased array. Then, by supposing that the FSO feeder link follows Gamma-Gamma fading whereas the mmWave user link experiences shadowed Rician fading, we take the influence of the into account, and derive the closed-form expression of the (OP) for the considered system. To gain further insight, a simple asymptotic OP expression at a high SNR is provided to show the diversity order and coding gain. Finally, numerical simulations are conducted to confirm the validity of the theoretical analysis and reveal the effects of s on the system outage performance.

A comprehensive review of optical wireless power transfer technology Review

Syed Agha Hassnain MOHSAN, Haoze QIAN, Hussain AMJAD,Hassnainagha@zju.edu.cn

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2023, Volume 24, Issue 6,   Pages 767-800 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2100443

Abstract: Ground-breaking (OWPT) techniques have gained significant attention from both academia and industry in recent decades. Powering remote systems through s (LDs) to either operate devices or recharge batteries offers several benefits. Remote LDs can remove the burden of carrying extra batteries and can reduce mission time by removing battery swap-time and charging. Apart from its appealing benefits, laser power transfer (LPT) is still a challenging task due to its low transfer efficiency. In this paper, we discuss the necessity and feasibility of OWPT and discuss several projects, working principle, system design, and components. In addition, we show that OWPT is an essential element to supply power to Internet-of-Things (IoT) terminals. We also highlight the impacts of dynamic OWPT. We outline several OWPT techniques including optical beamforming, (DLC), adaptive-DLC (ADLC), simultaneous lightwave information and power transfer (SLIPT), Thing-to-Thing (T2T) OWPT, and high intensity laser power beaming (HILPB). We also deal with laser selection, hazard analysis, and received photovoltaic (PV) cell selection for OWPT systems. Finally, we discuss a range of open challenges and counter measures. We believe that this review will be helpful in integrating research and eliminating technical uncertainties, thereby promoting progress and innovation in the development of OWPT technologies.

Improving the Performance of OFDM Channel Estimation through Subspace Projecting and Tracking

Dong Liang,Cao Xiuying,Bi Guangguo

Strategic Study of CAE 2006, Volume 8, Issue 11,   Pages 86-93

Abstract:

The LS channel estimation of OFDM systems can be viewed as a noisy observation of the true channel frequency response, so the noise component can be compressed through subspace projecting. In this paper, the substance of the improvement of LS channel estimation is analyzed when subspace projecting is enforced, and the general framework to perform subspace projecting in the context of OFDM channel estimation is given, based on which this method is exterded to non-LS channel estimation. When signal subspace varies with time, subspace tracking should be performed to maintain a good estimation of signal subspace. At the end of this paper, a subspace tracking based parametric channel estimator is presented, and computer simulation shows that this channel estimator outperforms its nonparametric counterparts.

Dynamic Spectrum Control-Assisted Secure and Efficient Transmission Scheme in Heterogeneous Cellular Networks Article

Chenxi Li, Lei Guan, Huaqing Wu, Nan Cheng, Zan Li, Xuemin Sherman Shen

Engineering 2022, Volume 17, Issue 10,   Pages 220-231 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2021.04.019

Abstract:

Heterogeneous cellular networks (HCNs) are envisioned as a promising architecture to provide seamless wireless coverage and increase network capacity. However, the densified multi-tier network architecture introduces excessive intra- and cross-tier interference and makes HCNs vulnerable to eavesdropping attacks. In this article, a dynamic spectrum control (DSC)-assisted transmission scheme is proposed for HCNs to strengthen network security and increase the network capacity. Specifically, the proposed DSC-assisted transmission scheme leverages the idea of block cryptography to generate sequence families, which represent the transmission decisions, by performing iterative and orthogonal sequence transformations. Based on the sequence families, multiple users can dynamically occupy different frequency slots for data transmission simultaneously. In addition, the collision probability of the data transmission is analyzed, which results in closed-form expressions of the reliable transmission probability and the secrecy probability. Then, the upper and lower bounds of network capacity are further derived with given requirements on the reliable and secure transmission probabilities. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed DSC-assisted scheme can outperform the benchmark scheme in terms of security performance. Finally, the impacts of key factors in the proposed DSC-assisted scheme on the network capacity and security are evaluated and discussed.

Strategic Study of CAE 2023, Volume 25, Issue 2,   Pages 59-66 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2023.02.007

Abstract:

Owing to historical reasons and investment restrictions, China’s aerospace industry initially focused on space technology and application, with insufficient emphasis on space science; therefore, space science, technology, and application developed independently. The development of space technology should be deeply integrated into space science and application, thus to strengthen China’s aerospace industry and create new opportunities and achievements. This study explores the implications of space science, space technology, and space application and clarifies their interrelationships. Moreover, it systematically analyzes the development trend in space science, technology, and application worldwide and reviews the development situation of space-related fields in China. Based on this, it examines the necessity for coordinating the development of space science, technology, and application in China and summarizes the major challenges. Considering their overlapping needs and mutual promotion, space science, technology, and application should be coordinated throughout the process of planning, deployment, and implementation. First, the advantages of the new national system should be exploited to conduct top-level planning under unified management. Second, the innovation-driven development strategy should be insisted to promote the international competitiveness of China’s aerospace industry through technological progress. Third, basic research in the space field should be strengthened and high-level scientists and engineers should be cultivated. Lastly, resource planning and coordination should be strengthened to promote the rational opening and full utilization of space application data.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2019, Volume 20, Issue 2,   Pages 300-306 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1700056

Abstract:

A radio-over-fiber (RoF) distributed antenna system (DAS) architecture is proposed, where millimeter wave (mm-wave) signals are transmitted to four different radio access units (RAUs) arranged in a ring topology. The proposed architecture transmits duplex data of 128 Mb/s to each RAU in both downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) directions. The radio frequency (RF) signals are transmitted by polarization multiplexing a multi-wavelength source. Millimeter-wave signals at a frequency of 25 GHz are generated at each RAU using remote heterodyne detection. The proposed architecture provides increased coverage while maintaining good bit error rate (BER) results.

Strategic Study of CAE 2006, Volume 8, Issue 11,   Pages 74-79

Abstract:

Transmitting effects of aero-optics is very important to optical imaging probing system of interceptor, as it may cause displacement, jitter and blurring of image to receive for the system. The optic transmitting characteristics is analyzed when target ray goes though turbulence flow. The engineering model for optical transmitting characteristics of flow is built up and empirical model for optical imaging system induced by aero-optic transmitting effects is described. The displacement, jitter and blurring are simulated. The numerical simulation results suggest that transmitting effect of aero-optics has powerful influence on the imaging probing system, which is related to flight parameters, imaging system parameters and integration periods of imaging probing system, etc.
