A planar millimeter-wave shared-aperture array antenna is proposed and designed in this paper. By composing the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) and the stripline, the K-band antenna is embedded inside the Ka-band antenna to achieve a smaller size and a low profile by sharing an aperture. The Ka-band antenna radiates through the parallel slot pairs on the surface of the SIW cavities with horizontal polarization, while the K-band antenna radiates through the butterfly-shaped slots with vertical polarization, which are also designed on the surface. Then the two array antennas can radiate by sharing a common aperture with high isolation. To verify this idea, a prototype of an 8×8 shared-aperture array antenna has been designed with center frequencies of 19 and 30 GHz and fabricated using multilayer printed circuit board (PCB) technology. The measurement results show that the −10 dB impedance bandwidths in the K- and Ka-bands are 7.73% and >20%, and the corresponding isolations are higher than 60 and 44 dB, respectively. The proposed shared-aperture antenna has a small footprint, a low profile, and high isolation, and is a promising candidate to design compact millimeterwave wireless systems.

The design and fabrication of a compact and low-cost 4×25-Gb/s transmitter optical sub-assembly (TOSA) and receiver optical sub-assembly (ROSA) using a hybrid integrated technique are reported. TOSA and ROSA are developed without thermoelectric cooler for coarse wavelength division multiplexing applications. Physical dimension of the packaged optical subassembly is limited to 11.5 mm×5.4 mm×5.4 mm. The design of TOSA and ROSA is employed using a silica-based arrayed waveguide grating chip to select the specific channel wavelength at O-band. In TOSA, the wavelength of four 1.3-μm discrete directly modulated laser chips is well controlled based on the reconstruction equivalent chirp technique. In the back-to-back transmission test, bit error rates for all lanes of cascade of the TOSA and ROSA are small. A clear opening eye diagram is obtained.

A multimode silicon photonic integrated circuit (PIC) comprising a pair of on-chip mode (de)multiplexers with 10-mode channels and a multimode bus waveguide with sharp bends is demonstrated to enable multi-channel on-chip transmissions. The core width of the multimode bus waveguide is chosen such that it can support 10 guided modes, of which there are four transverse-magnetic polarization modes and six transverse-electric polarization modes. This multimode bus waveguide comprises sharp bends based on modified Euler curves. Experimental results demonstrate that the present silicon PIC enables the 10-channel on-chip transmission with a low inter-mode crosstalk of approximately −20 dB over a broad bandwidth of 1520–1610 nm even when the bending radius of the S-bend is as small as 40 μm. Compared with a silicon PIC using a conventional arc-bend with the same bending radius, our proposed PIC demonstrates a significant improvement.

Vectorial eigenmodes supported by the buried rectangular and rib optical waveguides are obtained using variable transformed series expansion method. The infinite x-y plane is mapped into a unit square by an elegant tangent-type variable transformation. Consequently, the boundary truncation is not necessary, and the nonphysical reflection is eliminated. As a result, the calculation accuracy is promoted. In addition, small matrix derived from this method promotes the computational efficiency. Comparatively agreeing with those previously published, the results can be used to optimize the photonic devices.

Strategic Study of CAE 2011, Volume 13, Issue 12, Pages 84-90
A method of applying system integration theory to real-time control on high arch dam construction was proposed to fit the strong complexity and randomness in the construction process. A system integrated framework of real-time control on high arch dam construction was designed. Then, the implementation process of the system integration was illustrated in detail from four aspects of information integration, function integration, technique integration and monitoring index integration. Finally, a real-time control system based on the network platform was built up. The application result shows that the theory and the system can realize integrated control and analysis dynamically, and improve the dam construction management level effectively.

Synthesized All-Pass Waveguide for Ultrafast Electronics Article

Engineering 2023, Volume 30, Issue 11, Pages 49-54 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2023.04.005
Ultrashort pulse transmission has been recognized as a primary problem that fundamentally hinders the development of ultrafast electronics beyond the current nanosecond timescale. This requires a transmission line or waveguide that exhibits an all-pass frequency behavior for the transmitted ultrashort pulse signals. However, this type of waveguiding structure has not yet been practically developed; groundbreaking innovations and advances in signal transmission technology are urgently required to address this scenario. Herein, we present a synthesized all-pass waveguide that demonstrates record guided-wave controlling capabilities, including eigenmode reshaping, polarization rotation, loss reduction, and dispersion improvement. We experimentally developed two waveguides for use in ultrabroad frequency ranges (direct current (DC)-to-millimeter-wave and DC-to-terahertz). Our results suggest that the waveguides can efficiently transmit picosecond electrical pulses while maintaining signal integrity. This waveguide technology is an important breakthrough in the evolution of ultrafast electronics, providing a path towards frequency-engineered ultrashort pulses for low-loss and low-dispersion transmissions.
