Seasonal variations in leaf capturing of particulate matter, surface wettability and micromorphology

摘要: The seasonal changes in leaf particulate matter (PM) accumulation, surface wettability and micromorphology in urban tree species, including ( . ), ( . ) and ( . ), were studied during a single growing season. The three species showed distinct seasonal trends in PM accumulation, increasing from spring to autumn (or winter) even during the rainy season, but at different rates. During the study, the leaf PM retention amount of , a species with ridged leaf surfaces, was significantly higher than that of and , species with waxy leaf surfaces. The contact angles of water droplets on leaves decreased with leaf age except on the abaxial surface of , which remained non-wettable or highly non-wettable throughout the growing season; the decrease in the contact angle on adaxial surface of was greater when compared with and . A significant and negative relationship existed between leaf PM retention amounts and contact angles on adaxial surface of leaves of all three species. The increase in wettability, probably caused when epicuticular wax was destroyed by mechanical and chemical abrasion, seemed to be the main factor leading to seasonal variations in leaf PM accumulation.

摘要:

本文研究了H2O、酚醛树脂胶黏剂(PF)、脲醛树脂胶黏剂(UF)和改性大豆蛋白胶(MSA)在毛竹材不同立杆高度弦切面的润湿性能,通过测定这些润湿液体在竹材弦切面上的接触角,建立润湿液体在毛竹材弦切面的动态润湿模型,分析毛竹材的不同高度对润湿液体动态润湿性能的影响,并对比分析各种润湿液体在毛竹材弦切面的润湿性能差异。

Numerical studies of dynamic behavior of liquid film on single-layer wire mesh with different wettabilities

摘要: Droplet impacting on the stainless steel wire mesh is very common in chemical devices, like a rotating packed bed. Surface wettability of wire mesh significantly affects the liquid flow pattern and liquid dispersion performance. However, the effect of surface wettability on the impaction phenomena at microscale such as liquid film is still unknown. In this work, the dynamic behavior of liquid film on the surface of wire mesh was analyzed by computational fluid dynamics simulation. The dynamic behavior of liquid film on the surface of wire mesh can be divided into the following three steps: (1) spreading step; (2) shrinkage process; (3) stabilizing or disappearing step. Effects of surface wettability, as well as operating conditions, on wetting area and liquid film thickness were studied. Compared to the hydrophilic wire mesh, the final wetting area of hydrophobic wire mesh is zero in most cases. The average liquid film thickness on the surface of hydrophilic wire mesh is 30.02–77.29 μm, and that of hydrophobic wire mesh is 41.76–237.37 μm. This work provided a basic understanding of liquid film flow at microscale on the surface with various surface wettabilities, which can be guiding the packing optimization and design.

Surface hydrophobicity: effect of alkyl chain length and network homogeneity

摘要: Understanding the nature of hydrophobicity has fundamental importance in environmental applications. Using spherical silica nanoparticles (diameter= 369€±€7 nm) as the model material, the current study investigates the relationship between the alkyl chain network and hydrophobicity. Two alkyl silanes with different chain length (triethoxymethylsilane (C1) vs. trimethoxy(octyl)silane (C8)) were utilised separately for the functionalisation of the nanoparticles. Water contact angle and inverse gas chromatography results show that the alkyl chain length is essential for controlling hydrophobicity, as the octyl-functionalised nanoparticles were highly hydrophobic (water contact angle= 150.6°€±€6.6°), whereas the methyl-functionalised nanoparticles were hydrophilic (i.e., water contact angle= 0°, similar to the pristine nanoparticles). The homogeneity of the octyl-chain network also has a significant effect on hydrophobicity, as the water contact angle was reduced significantly from 148.4°€±€3.5° to 30.5°€±€1.0° with a methyl-/octyl-silane mixture (ratio= 160:40 µL·g nanoparticles).

摘要:

在本文中,笔者采用皮秒激光来制造Stavax钢基板的表面纹理,此钢基板为制造各种高分子聚合物产品模具的关键材料。在Stavax 钢基板上主要有3种类型的表面纹理:周期性波纹、微凸块的双尺度分层二维阵列以及有纳米波纹的微坑阵列。经激光处理后的Stavax钢基板表面的润湿性从其原始的亲水性转变为疏水性,甚至在暴露于空气后具有超疏水性。研究结果清晰地表明,此超疏水性主要是由于表面纹理造成的。超快激光诱导的催化效果可能在改变表面化学性质方面起到次要作用,从而降低了表面能。随后,将金属磨具表面上的经激光处理的表面纹理通过高分子聚合物注射成型工艺复制到聚丙烯基底。由此,聚丙烯模具表面的润湿性从原始的亲水性变成疏水性。此开发工艺在改善塑料制品的湿润控制性和易清洗性方面具有一定潜能。
