As a versatile tool for trapping and manipulating neutral particles, optical tweezers have been studied in a broad range of fields such as molecular biology, nanotechnology, and experimentally physics since Arthur Ashkin pioneered the field in the early 1970s. By levitating the “sensor” with a laser beam instead of adhering it to solid components, excellent environmental decoupling is achieved. Furthermore, unlike levitating particles in liquid or air, optical tweezers operating in vacuum are isolated from environmental thermal noise, thus eliminating the primary source of dissipation present for most inertial sensors. This attracted great attention in both fundamental and applied physics. In this paper we review the history and the basic concepts of optical tweezers in vacuum and provide an overall understanding of the field.

Power produced through solar photovoltaic technology is an important form of renewable energy and also the focus of China’s current efforts to strengthen the global competitiveness of its strategic emerging industries. In this paper, a detailed analysis of the solar energy photovoltaic industry–on both the domestic and international levels–is conducted to assess the development of current and future trends, present state of the industry, and problems faced by China's solar photovoltaic industry. Furthermore, some suggestions and prospects for the healthy future development of the photovoltaic industry are also presented.

In this paper, a hierarchical model of the optical transport network (OTN) with an optical supervisory channel (OSC) subsystem is discussed, and that the reliability of operation, administration and management (OAM) signals is rested with the quality of signals transported in OSC is indicated by analyzing the charac-teristics of signals in OSC. Basing on the one-to-one correspondence of Q-factor with bit-error-ratio (BER) in data communication systems, an on-line supervisory scheme for Q-factor of signals in OSC is presented, and the supervisory module by a digital signal processor (DSP) approach is designed to implement on-line supervision for Q-factor.

Dual-Comb Ranging Review
Zebin Zhu, Guanhao Wu
Engineering 2018, Volume 4, Issue 6, Pages 772-778 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2018.10.002
Absolute distance measurement is a fundamental technique in mobile and large-scale dimensional metrology. Dual-comb ranging is emerging as a powerful tool that exploits phase resolution and frequency accuracy for high-precision and fast-rate distance measurement. Using two coherent frequency combs, dual-comb ranging allows time and phase response to be measured rapidly. It breaks through the limitations related to the responsive bandwidth, ambiguity range, and dynamic measurement characteristics of conventional ranging tools. This review introduces dual-comb ranging and summarizes the key techniques for realizing this ranging tool. As optical frequency comb technology progresses, dualcomb ranging shows promise for various professional applications.

Speed-up development of PV to ensure sustainable energy supply in China

Strategic Study of CAE 2011, Volume 13, Issue 9, Pages 51-62
PV is never limited by resources and production materials and is the main alternative energy sources in the future. China is now the largest producer of PV modules in the world and has made remarkable cost reduction in recent years. It is expected that PV will reach "grid-parity" within 5~10 years and become market competitive with conventional electricity.Large scale utilization of PV domestically will give great help to realize the target of GHG reduction and energy sustainable development in China. We still need great efforts in incentive policies, financing and grid-connection.

Strategic Study of CAE 2006, Volume 8, Issue 8, Pages 69-72
Smoke particles and heat will be generated in fire , conventional fire detectors detect fire just by these physical effects. But the measurement of physical parameters is not enough for an early fire detection. Nowadays another method has been an area of major interest for early fire dtection which make use of the gases (for example CO) generated from combustion process to detect fire. A majority of existing gas sensors are not good for a early fire detection because of their low sensitivity. A detection method for measuring the gas concentration based on photoacoustic principle is reported in this work, which increased the sensitivity enomously. The rate of false alarm is decreased greatly also by combining carbon monoxide detection with carbon dioxide detection.

Based on the unified estimation-theoretic framework, an effective method of using the gradual Gaussian multidimensional pre-filter to improve the optical flow estimation is presented. The pre-filtering and smoothing effect, which attenuate the temporal aliasing and the interesting signal structure of the optical flow field, are altered with adjusting the spatiotemporal standard deviation parameters. The first 50 frames of the standard Flower Garden and Football video sequence are tested as the reference image sequences, and the LK algorithm as the reference optical flow computing method. Experimental results in objective evaluation show that the optimum temporal standard deviation parameter is 0.4, the optimum spatial standard deviation parameter is in a range of 1.6~2.0 under the condition that the pre-filtering window size is 5 × 5 pixels. After pre-filtering the image sequence by the Gaussian multidimensional filter, the average PSNR of the reconstructed frames enhance 2.572 dB, higher than that using the standard optical flow computing method by nearly 13.6 % .

Inspired by the compound eyes of insects, many s have been proposed to improve the imaging quality, e.g., to yield a high-resolution image or an image with a large field-of-view. Previous research has reviewed existing s, but few papers emphasize the which is essential to bridge the gap between configuration design and application. In this paper, we review typical s (i.e., , , and ), and then summarize general mathematical s for different configurations. These mathematical models provide methods for calculating the key indexes of a specific , such as the field-of-view and sub-image overlap ratio. The mathematical tools simplify the quantitative design and evaluation of imaging systems for researchers.
