Strategic Study of CAE 2017, Volume 19, Issue 4,   Pages 130-137 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2017.04.021

Abstract:

This paper summarizes the development of utilization models for the return of livestock and poultry manure to farmland in China. It analyzes the problems affecting the industrial development of the utilization of livestock and poultry manure recycling, and discusses development strategies for the next step in this process. In past years, important progress has been achieved in exploring utilization models for returning livestock and poultry manure to farmland, and in identifying suitable parameters for the farmland carrying capacity of livestock, both at home and abroad. However, problems remain such as unbalanced nutrients after combining planting and livestock systems, large nutrient losses, and a lack of reasonable principles for manure application on farmland. In the next step, studies should be based on the concept of the environmentally friendly return of manure to farmland and should introduce the concept of nutrient management after combining planting and livestock systems. Techniques should be carried out for the collection, storage, and processing of manure; for its return to farmland; for reasonable manure applications; for balancing nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients in order to reduce non-point source pollution; and for other aspects. In addition, policies about the efficient recycling of livestock and poultry manure should be promoted.

Review of Current Situation of Agricultural Non-Point Source Pollution and Its Prevention and Control Technologies

Shuxia Wu, Hongbin Liu, Shen Liu, Yaosheng Wang, Baojing Gu, Shuqin Jin, Qiuliang Lei, Limei Zhai, Hongyuan Wang

Strategic Study of CAE 2018, Volume 20, Issue 5,   Pages 23-30 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2018.05.004

Abstract:

Agricultural non-point source pollution is one of the main factors causing water pollution in China. Due to its characteristics of randomness, unfixed pollution discharge, and changes in pollution load, it is more difficult to control and prevent the pollution from non-point sources than that from point sources. Making clear of the current situation of non-point agricultural pollution and its prevention and control technologies is the premise of non-point pollution control. This paper summarizes the causes and present situation of agricultural non-point source pollution, and points out that the unreasonable fertilizer application and the pollutant discharge from large-scale livestock and poultry breeding farms are the most important sources of agricultural non-point pollution. The current mature non-point source pollution prevention and control techniques in planting and livestock industry are introduced. It also proposes that the combination of source control, process control, and end treatment is the most important prevention method for agricultural non-point source pollution. Corresponding prevention and control technologies of non-point source pollution should be adopted according to local conditions to realize the simultaneous development of environmental, economic, and social benefits.
