Abstract: and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RQ-PCR) assays were developed and performed for JAK2V617FThe results showed that in some samples, the JAK2V617F burden was as low as nearly 1%, and thus moreJAK2V617F-positive samples were detected by RQ-PCR than by SB-ASA assay due to the former higher detectOur result shows that the pathogenesis of PV and ET may be related to the mutation allele burden of JAK2V617F

Influence of harvest date on seed yield and quality in forage kochia

Cody F. CREECH, Blair L. WALDRON, Corey V. RAMSOM, Dale R. ZOBELL, Joseph Earl CREECH

Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering 2018, Volume 5, Issue 1,   Pages 71-79 doi: 10.15302/J-FASE-2017196

Abstract: Forage kochia ( ) is used for rangeland reclamation and livestock and wildlife forage, but limited research has been conducted on its seed production. Therefore, this research evaluated the effect of harvest date on seed weight, germination, and seed yield of forage kochia subspecies and . Seed was harvested from individual plants for 3 years during October, November, and December. October harvest had the lightest 100-seed weights, with the November harvest slightly heavier than December, for most accessions. Cultivar Snowstorm and breeding line Sahsel, both subsp. , had the greatest 100-seed weights in November, 155 and 143 mg, respectively, whereas, cv. Immigrant (subsp. ), the standard for forage kochia, ranked among the least for 100-seed weight. For most accessions, germination was lowest from the October harvest (11%–43%), with greater germination with November and December harvested seeds (43%–64%). Viable seed yields were greatest in November with the exception of two accessions, which peaked in October, indicating earlier maturity. Results indicate that forage kochia usually reaches optimum seed maturity by early November, after plants are exposed to freezing temperatures; however, earlier maturing accessions exist in both subspecies and .

Effect of TiO 2 loading on the activity of V/TiO 2 -Al 2 O 3 in the catalytic oxidehydrogenation of ethylbenzene

Xiaohong LI, Wenying LI,

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2010, Volume 4, Issue 2,   Pages 142-146 doi: 10.1007/s11705-009-0233-2

Abstract: TiO-AlOmixed oxides with different compositions ranging from 40wt-% to 95wt-% of TiO were prepared by sol-gel method and impregnated with different amounts of VO. Supports and catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), physisorption, temperature preprogrammed reduction (H-TPR), and ammonia temperature programmed desorption (NH-TPD). TiO content in the support had obvious effect on the crystal structure, texture characteristic, acid property, and catalytic activity in dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene (EB) with carbon dioxide. The highest catalytic activity was acquired when the TiO content was 50 wt-%.

Vented Individual Patient (VIP) Hoods for the Control of Infectious Airborne Diseases in Healthcare Facilities Review

Patel, F. McGain, T. Bhatelia, S. Wang, B. Sun, J. Monty, V. Pareek

Engineering 2022, Volume 15, Issue 8,   Pages 126-132 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2020.12.024

Abstract:

By providing a means of separating the airborne emissions of patients from the air breathed by healthcare workers (HCWs), vented individual patient (VIP) hoods, a form of local exhaust ventilation (LEV), offer a new approach to reduce hospital-acquired infection (HAI). Results from recent studies have demonstrated that, for typical patient-emitted aerosols, VIP hoods provide protection at least equivalent to that of an N95 mask. Unlike a mask, hood performance can be easily monitored and HCWs can be alerted to failure by alarms. The appropriate use of these relatively simple devices could both reduce the reliance on personal protective equipment (PPE) for infection control and provide a low-cost and energy-efficient form of protection for hospitals and clinics. Although the development and deployment of VIP hoods has been accelerated by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, these devices are currently an immature technology. In this review, we describe the state of the art of VIP hoods and identify aspects in need of further development, both in terms of device design and the protocols associated with their use. The broader concept of individual patient hoods has the potential to be expanded beyond ventilation to the provision of clean conditions for individual patients and personalized control over other environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

N-Positive ion activated rapid addition and mitochondrial targeting ratiometric fluorescent probesfor in vivo cell H2S imaging

Yan Shi, Fangjun Huo, Yongkang Yue, Caixia Yin

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2022, Volume 16, Issue 1,   Pages 64-71 doi: 10.1007/s11705-021-2048-8

Abstract: Heterocyclic compound quinoline and its derivatives exist in natural compounds and have a broad spectrum of biological activity. They play an important role in the design of new structural entities for medical applications. Similarly, indoles and their derivatives are found widely in nature. Amino acids, alkaloids and auxin are all derivatives of indoles, as are dyes, and their condensation with aldehydes makes it easy to construct reaction sites for nucleophilic addition agents. In this work, we combine these two groups organically to construct a rapid response site (within 30 s) for H S, and at the same time, a ratiometric fluorescence response is presented throughout the process of H S detection. As such, the lower detection limit can reach 55.7 nmol/L for H S. In addition, cell imaging shows that this probe can be used for the mitochondrial targeted detection of endogenous and exogenous H S. Finally, this probe application was verified by imaging H S in nude mice.
