The Consolidation of Highly Saturated Soils and Saturation Degree's Influence
Jin Zhigao
Strategic Study of CAE 2004, Volume 6, Issue 9, Pages 73-76
Based on Terzaghi's consolidation theories and Biot's consolidation theories, the consolidating mechanism and consolidating process of highly saturated soil are discussed according to the variety of saturation degree. The influence of saturation degree changing on porous fluid compressibility as well as the whole consolidation process are studied deeply in this paper.

The Principle of Interaction Between Plastic Volumetric and Shear Strains for Unsaturated Soils
Wang Jingtao
Strategic Study of CAE 2007, Volume 9, Issue 11, Pages 11-15
In this paper, the principle of interaction between plastic volumetric and shear strains for rock and soil has been extended to the field of unsaturated soils. Two new interactions of suction-plastic volumetric strain and pore air pressure-plastic volumetric strain appear in the unsaturated state of a soil besides the interaction between plastic volumetric and shear strains. The suction possesses a dual property. Thereby the effect of the suction on plastic volumetric strain includes two opposite aspects. By means of this property of suction, the physical significance of effective stress parameter, effects of suction on volume change and preconsolidation pressure, and the mechanism of collapse upon wetting all can be explained. In addition, it is theoretically proved by application of this principle of interaction that the critical state line for unsaturated soils exists, and is unique and independent of the stress history.

The Analysis of Dangerous Volumetric Water Content of Unsaturated Soil Slope
Zhang Shilin,Wang Dongmei,Li Genhua
Strategic Study of CAE 2004, Volume 6, Issue 5, Pages 71-75
This article mainly formulates that rainfall seeping makes the volumetric water of unsaturated soil changing, and the water content relates closely to soil suction. That means soil suction changes with the stability of whole unsaturated soil slope, that is, the safety coefficient has some relationship with volumetric water. So the “dangerous” volumetric water condition cna be determined under which, the unsaturated soil slope also is danger. By monitoring the volumetric water condition changing of unsaturated soil slope, some information of unsaturated soil slope stability can be obtained.

During recent years, membrane integration process has attracted wide attentions. The study on combination of the traditional separation technology and membrane process is conducive to the advantages such as high efficiency, easy online, etc. It is significant for the large-scale application of membrane integration process with low cost. Membrane adsorption and membrane absorption processes, which combined the advantages of membranes with adsorption, gained wide?applications for numerous occasions such as purification and separation. The research advances and development tendency of membrane adsorption and absorption will be introduced in this article, which can provide some suggestions for the researchers of related fields.

Transparent microwave absorbers that exhibit high optical transmittance and microwave absorption capability are ideal, although having a fixed absorption performance limits their applicability. Here, a simple, transparent, and thermally tunable microwave absorber is proposed, based on a patterned vanadium dioxide (VO2) film. Numerical calculations and experiments demonstrate that the proposed VO2 absorber has a high optical transmittance of 84.9% at 620 nm; its reflection loss at 15.06 GHz can be thermally tuned from –4.257 to –60.179 dB, and near-unity absorption is achieved at 523.75 K. Adjusting only the patterned VO2 film duty cycle can change the temperature of near-unity absorption. Our VO2 absorber has a simple composition, a high optical transmittance, a thermally tunable microwave absorption performance, a large modulation depth, and an adjustable temperature tuning range, making it promising for application in tunable sensors, thermal emitters, modulators, thermal imaging, bolometers, and photovoltaic devices.

Strategic Study of CAE 2009, Volume 11, Issue 8, Pages 48-51
This paper proposes a new method of diagnosing 16.7 MeV high-energy pulsed gamma, named "scattering-absorbing method" . The ratio of the sensitivity of HEG to that of the LEG can reach 106 to 108 by this new method. The sensitivity of 16.7 MeV high-energy gamma ranges from 10-21 to 10-16 C·cm2. It's better than the traditional method which bases on the magnetic analyzer and Cherenkov detector on some aspects.

Egg custard is a common dish on the dining table and exhibits a uniform porous structure after freeze-drying. The protein within egg custard is a rich source of carbon and nitrogen, and the custard's unique microstructure and adjustable electrical properties make it a potential porous carbon precursor. Herein, nitrogen in situ doped porous carbons (NPCs) and potassium-carbonate-modified NPCs (PNPCs) are obtained through a simple gelation and carbonization process using egg white as the raw material. The unique morphologies of the porous carbon are inherited from the protein and include fibrous clusters, honeycomb holes, and a grooved skeleton. Their excellent impedance matching and effective internal loss make the obtained porous carbons good candidates for lightweight electromagnetic (EM) wave absorbers without the need to dope with metal elements. As a representative porous carbon, PNPC10-700 has multiple structures, including fibrous clusters, honeycomb holes, and a porous skeleton. Moreover, it achieves a maximum reflection loss value of −66.15 dB (with a thickness of 3.77 mm) and a broad effective absorption bandwidth of 5.82 GHz (from 12.18 to 18.00 GHz, with a thickness of 2.5 mm), which surpasses the reported values in most of the literature. Thus, gelation combined with the further carbonization of egg white (protein) is a new method for designing the morphology and EM properties of porous carbon absorbers.
