Real-Time Assessment and Diagnosis of Process Operating Performance

Shabnam Sedghi,Biao Huang

Engineering 2017, Volume 3, Issue 2,   Pages 214-219 doi: 10.1016/J.ENG.2017.02.004

Abstract:

Over time, the performance of processes may deviate from the initial design due to process variations and uncertainties, making it necessary to develop systematic methods for online optimality assessment based on routine operating process data. Some processes have multiple operating modes caused by the set point change of the critical process variables to achieve different product specifications. On the other hand, the operating region in each operating mode can alter, due to uncertainties. In this paper, we will establish an optimality assessment framework for processes that typically have multi-mode, multi-region operations, as well as transitions between different modes. The kernel density approach for mode detection is adopted and improved for operating mode detection. For online mode detection, the model-based clustering discriminant analysis (MclustDA) approach is incorporated with some a priori knowledge of the system. In addition, multi-modal behavior of steady-state modes is tackled utilizing the mixture probabilistic principal component regression (MPPCR) method, and dynamic principal component regression (DPCR) is used to investigate transitions between different modes. Moreover, a probabilistic causality detection method based on the sequential forward floating search (SFFS) method is introduced for diagnosing poor or non-optimum behavior. Finally, the proposed method is tested on the Tennessee Eastman (TE) benchmark simulation process in order to evaluate its performance.

Performance Analysis and Evaluation of Geometric Parameters in Stereo Deflectometry Article

Yongjia Xu, Feng Gao, Xiangqian Jiang

Engineering 2018, Volume 4, Issue 6,   Pages 806-815 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2018.10.007

Abstract:

This paper presents a novel geometric parameters analysis to improve the measurement accuracy of stereo deflectometry. Stereo deflectometry can be used to obtain form information for freeform specular surfaces. A measurement system based on stereo deflectometry typically consists of a fringe-displaying screen, a main camera, and a reference camera. The arrangement of the components of a stereo deflectometry system is important for achieving high-accuracy measurements. In this paper, four geometric parameters of a stereo deflectometry system are analyzed and evaluated: the distance between the main camera and the measured object surface, the angle between the main camera ray and the surface normal, the distance between the fringe-displaying screen and the object, and the angle between the main camera and the reference camera. The influence of the geometric parameters on the measurement accuracy is evaluated. Experiments are performed using simulated and experimental data. The experimental results confirm the impact of these parameters on the measurement accuracy. A measurement system based on the proposed analysis has been set up to measure a stock concave mirror. Through a comparison of the given surface parameters of the concave mirror, a global measurement accuracy of 154.2 nm was achieved.

Abstract:

At present, China is faced with major problems in infrastructure management, such as improper scheduling and belated implementation of maintenance work or huge maintenance budget outlays. As such, it is essential to implement rapid and effective management measures to ensure road safety, prevent catastrophic damage, and increase economic growth. In this paper, five nondestructive road testing methods and their associated testing equipment are introduced according to the American Society for Testing and Materials. These include the falling weight deflectometer, ground penetrating radar, macro texture depth, international roughness index, and spectral analysis of surface waves. The operating principles and applications of each testing method are elaborated to guide relevant personnel to make a reasoned choice according to their actual situation. The application of these testing methods will accelerate the assessment of projects without traffic closures, likely provide a new approach for establishing a high-efficiency intelligent road network monitoring system, and will provide a practical and feasible method for sustainable road development and the efficient utilization of capital.

Rui Guo, Xuan-jing Shen, Xiao-yu Dong, Xiao-li Zhang,zhangxiaoli@jlu.edu.cn

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2020, Volume 21, Issue 7,   Pages 963-1118 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1900336

Abstract: We propose a method, in which a fully convolutional network for focus detection (FD-FCN) is constructed. To obtain more precise focus detection maps, we propose to add s in the network to make both detailed and abstract visual information available when using FD-FCN to generate maps. A new training dataset for the proposed network is constructed based on dataset CIFAR-10. The image fusion algorithm using FD-FCN contains three steps: focus maps are obtained using FD-FCN, decision map generation occurs by applying a morphological process on the focus maps, and image fusion occurs using a decision map. We carry out several sets of experiments, and both subjective and objective assessments demonstrate the superiority of the proposed fusion method to state-of-the-art algorithms.

Research of trust valuation based on cloud model

Lu Feng,Wu Huizhong

Strategic Study of CAE 2008, Volume 10, Issue 10,   Pages 84-90

Abstract:

At present, the existing descriptions of trust by trust valuation models lack comprehensiveness. To solve this problem, this paper discusses the co-existence and integration of fuzziness and randomness of trust relation, analyzes the ways cloud models describe uncertain concepts and the algorithms cloud models transform between qualitative concepts and their quantitative expressions, and presents trust cloud, a trust evaluation model based on cloud theory. This model provides the algorithms of trust information transfer and combination described by digital characteristics. While describing accurate trust expectation, this model portrays the uncertainty through entropy and hyper entropy. Compared with traditional trust valuation models, trust values obtained in this model contains more semantic information, indicating that valuation results from the model are more suitable as evidence for decision-making on trust.

Anti-sliding safety assessment for main saddle on middle tower of Taizhou Bridge

Ruan Xin,Ruan Jing,Chen Airong and Guo Ji

Strategic Study of CAE 2012, Volume 14, Issue 5,   Pages 71-74

Abstract:

In this paper, the basic model of main cable slip between saddles is established. Three methods to assess the safety of saddle sliding on middle tower of the Taizhou Bridge are presented based on this model. The first assessment method is deterministic, which is based on live load model of design codes. Several design codes models are used, and assessment results are compared. In the second method, the uncertainty of traffic load is considered in a more accurate way. Random traffic flow simulation model is developed to simulate real traffic situation on the bridge. Extreme value of unbalance force is obtained by extrapolation methods based on Rice formula. The last assessment method is probabilistic based method. The probabilistic model of load effect and structure resistance is established, and reliability index of anti-sliding safety is calculated. All three assessment results indicate that the middle tower saddle of the Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge is safe and reliable.

Nandhini CHOCKALINGAM, Brindha MURUGAN

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2023, Volume 24, Issue 11,   Pages 1601-1615 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2200534

Abstract: Technological advancements continue to expand the communications industry’s potential. Images, which are an important component in strengthening communication, are widely available. Therefore, image quality assessment (IQA) is critical in improving content delivered to end users. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) used in IQA face two common challenges. One issue is that these methods fail to provide the best representation of the image. The other issue is that the models have a large number of parameters, which easily leads to overfitting. To address these issues, the dense convolution network (DSC-Net), a model with fewer parameters, is proposed for . Moreover, it is obvious that the use of multimodal data for has improved the performance of applications. As a result, fuses the texture features extracted using the gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) method and spatial features extracted using DSC-Net and predicts the image quality. The performance of the proposed framework on the benchmark synthetic datasets LIVE, TID2013, and KADID-10k demonstrates that the MDSC-Net approach achieves good performance over state-of-the-art methods for the NR-IQA task.

Abstract:

With the unceasing development of the traffic tunnels in subway and highway engineering, sometimes the tunnels pass through rivers or lakes, so slurry shield method with large diameter is often used in the underwater tunnel construction. The underwater tunnel with large diameter has the characteristics of high risk, difficult to control, more uncertain risk factors, which will cause greater risk in construction process. Risk assessment is more and more applied in underwater tunnel construction safe management. The characteristics of using slurry shield with large diameter in underwater tunnel were introduced in this paper, and the mechanism that how the characteristics arouse the increase of risk was analyzed. According to the disadvantages of previous risk assessment methods, an improved index method was put forward, and the assessment process and main calculate model of this method were given. This method has been used in an underwater tunnel in Nanjing subway engineering, the application results show that this method can adapt the dynamic change of risk factors and it can be better applied in underwater tunnel construction safety risk assessment.
