Zhong Shan

Strategic Study of CAE 2001, Volume 3, Issue 5,   Pages 1-11

Abstract:

The analyses of characteristic parameters of modern low altitude air-defence missile weapon system are shown in this paper. These parameters can be used to represent the main specification of tactics and technicality. The synthetical evaluation of several foreign low altitude air-defence missile weapon systems is made, based on the measure of fuzzy function with weighted linear transformation. At the end of this paper the development tendency of weapon system in future is discussed in accordance with the quantitative analysis of the evaluation.

Abstract: With technological advancements, weapon system development has become increasingly complex and costly. Using modeling and simulation (M&S) technology in the conceptual design stage is effective in reducing the development time and cost of weapons. One way to reduce the complexity and trial-and-error associated with weapon development using M&S technology is to develop s to review the functions assigned to new weapons. Although the M&S technology is applicable, it is difficult to analyze how effectively the weapons are functioning, because of the dynamic features inherent in modeling, which considers interrelations among different weapon entities. To support review of weapon functions including these characteristics, this study develops a method to model the interactions between weapons in the . This method includes the following three steps: (1) construct virtual models by converting the weapons and the weapon functions into their corresponding components; (2) generate the combat process from the , which is derived from the interrelations among weapons under consideration using reasoning rules; (3) develop a process-based model that describes weapon functions by combining the combat process with virtual models. Then, a PBM system based on this method is implemented. The case study executed on this system shows that it is useful in deriving process-based models from various s, analyzing weapon functions using the derived models, and reducing weapon development issues in the conceptual design stage.

Strategic Study of CAE 2002, Volume 4, Issue 10,   Pages 26-30

Abstract:

Nuclear weapons are complex systems with special requirements on effectiveness, safety and reliability and, therefore, science-based engineering studies have been conducted, while enhancing system engineering and computer simulation. To further study mechanics and material science for environmental adaptability of the complex systems, theoretical and computational advances must be pursued. The most important issues are theoretical modeling and test designing. Unfortunately, appropriate theories and models for complex system have not been formed yet so far. Following the science development in the 21st century, applications of computer simulations will be speed up for complex systems investigations in various disciplines.

Earth-penetrating Weapons and Their Experiments Upon Gas Gun

Lin Junde

Strategic Study of CAE 2003, Volume 5, Issue 11,   Pages 25-33

Abstract:

The history and the actualities of developing earth-penetrating weapon are described. The fighting assemblies with penetrator have been applied in accurate guided weapons widely. The technical difficulties for developing low-yield earth-penetrating nuclear weapons have not been primary obstacle. The experimental technique of gas gun and its applications in earth-penetrating weapon tests are introduced. The experimental results indicate that there is a favorable analogical relation among earth-penetrating events, but there are many essential differences between penetrating phenomena of concrete and of granite. A method for calculating profiles on acceleration, velocity and displacement of penetrating projectile upon penetrating depth data is introduced.

Strategic Study of CAE 2006, Volume 8, Issue 6,   Pages 95-99

Abstract:

Risk evaluation is the basis of acquisition management for weapon and equipment. Based on the totally analyzing and summarizing risk matrix widely used abroad, the paper firsdy discusses the application of risk matrix in acquisition risk evaluation for weapon and equipment in China. Then, the paper, beginning with the two rules of risk impact and risk probability, demonstrates risk evaluation of a type of weapon and equipment as a case study, thus lays a basis for the scientific and rational risk management decision making.

Yu Xiang,Du Gang and He Qiwei

Strategic Study of CAE 2015, Volume 17, Issue 5,   Pages 76-82

Abstract:

Weapon equipment readiness evaluation is important for the meticulous and scientific usage management and maintenance support of weapon equipment. However, the current evaluation methods don’t fit the new situation and new requirements in terms of timeliness, accuracy and task matching. Therefore, an improved evaluation method for weapon equipment readiness based on the technical status of the main onboard machinery was presented. Through the simulation evaluation of the readiness for a certain type of destroyer, the feasibility of this method was verified, and some countermeasures and suggestions to further improve the method and mechanism for equipment readiness evaluation were proposed.

Industry 5.0—The Relevance and Implications of Bionics and Synthetic Biology Artical

Peter Sachsenmeier

Engineering 2016, Volume 2, Issue 2,   Pages 225-229 doi: 10.1016/J.ENG.2016.02.015

Abstract:

Bionics (the imitation or abstraction of the “inventions of nature) and, to an even greater extent, synthetic biology, will be as relevant to engineering development and industry as the silicon chip was over the last 50 years. Chemical industries already use so-called “white biotechnology” for new processes, new raw materials, and more sustainable use of resources. Synthetic biology is also used for the development of second-generation biofuels and for harvesting the sun´s energy with the help of tailor-made microorganisms or biometrically designed catalysts. The market potential for bionics in medicine, engineering processes, and DNA storage is huge. “Moonshot” projects are already aggressively focusing on diseases and new materials, and a US-led competition is currently underway with the aim of creating a thousand new molecules. This article describes a timeline that starts with current projects and then moves on to code engineering projects and their implications, artificial DNA, signaling molecules, and biological circuitry. Beyond these projects, one of the next frontiers in bionics is the design of synthetic metabolisms that include artificial food chains and foods, and the bioengineering of raw materials; all of which will lead to new insights into biological principles. Bioengineering will be an innovation motor just as digitalization is today. This article discusses pertinent examples of bioengineering, particularly the use of alternative carbon-based biofuels and the techniques and perils of cell modification. Big data, analytics, and massive storage are important factors in this next frontier. Although synthetic biology will be as pervasive and transformative in the next 50 years as digitization and the Internet are today, its applications and impacts are still in nascent stages. This article provides a general taxonomy in which the development of bioengineering is classified in five stages (DNA analysis, bio-circuits, minimal genomes, protocells, xenobiology) from the familiar to the unknown, with implications for safety and security, industrial development, and the development of bioengineering and biotechnology as an interdisciplinary field. Ethical issues and the importance of a public debate about the consequences of bionics and synthetic biology are discussed.
