Forward link outage performance of aeronautical broadband satellite communications Research Articles

Huaicong Kong, Min Lin, Shiwen He, Xiaoyu Liu, Jian Ouyang, Weiping Zhu,linmin@njupt.edu.cn

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2021, Volume 22, Issue 6,   Pages 790-801 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2000445

Abstract: High-throughput satellites (HTSs) play an important role in future millimeter-wave (mmWave) aeronautical communication to meet high speed and broad bandwidth requirements. This paper investigates the outage performance of an aeronautical broadband satellite communication system’s forward link, where the feeder link from the gateway to the HTS uses and the user link from the HTS to aircraft operates at the mmWave band. In the user link, spot beam technology is exploited at the HTS and a massive antenna array is deployed at the aircraft. We first present a location-based beamforming (BF) scheme to maximize the expected output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the forward link with the amplify-and-forward (AF) protocol, which turns out to be a phased array. Then, by supposing that the FSO feeder link follows Gamma-Gamma fading whereas the mmWave user link experiences shadowed Rician fading, we take the influence of the into account, and derive the closed-form expression of the (OP) for the considered system. To gain further insight, a simple asymptotic OP expression at a high SNR is provided to show the diversity order and coding gain. Finally, numerical simulations are conducted to confirm the validity of the theoretical analysis and reveal the effects of s on the system outage performance.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2023, Volume 24, Issue 10,   Pages 1471-1481 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2200244

Abstract: BeiDou-3 navigation satellite system was officially opened in 2020. While bringing high-performance services to people around the world, the navigation system requires well-designed s. In this paper, we propose a wideband circularly polarized high-performance . The antenna realizes through a , and the phase imbalance of the feed network from 1.05 to 1.80 GHz is less than 7°. The manufactured antenna demonstrates a return loss of more than 13 dB and an axial ratio3 dB over the entire global navigation satellite system (GNSS) frequency band. The right-handed circular polarization (RHCP) gain of the proposed antenna is greater than 4 dB in the GNSS low-frequency band and can reach more than 7.1 dB in the high-frequency band. Dimension of the proposed antenna is 120 mm×120 mm×20 mm, i.e., 0.54×0.54×0.09, where is the wavelength of the center frequency. The proposed antenna connected to a GNSS receiver has tracked 12 BeiDou satellites with ratios of GNSS signals greater than 30 dB. Such a high-performance antenna provides a basis for high-quality positioning services.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2023, Volume 24, Issue 6,   Pages 844-858 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2200507

Abstract: With the reduction in manufacturing and launch costs of low Earth orbit satellites and the advantages of large coverage and high data transmission rates, satellites have become an important part of data transmission in air-ground networks. However, due to the factors such as geographical location and people’s living habits, the differences in user’ demand for multimedia data will result in unbalanced network traffic, which may lead to network congestion and affect data transmission. In addition, in traditional transmission, the convergence of network information acquisition is slow and global network information cannot be collected in a fine-grained manner, which is not conducive to calculating optimal routes. The service quality requirements cannot be satisfied when multiple service requests are made. Based on the above, in this paper artificial intelligence technology is applied to the , and a software-defined network is used to obtain the global network information, perceive network traffic, develop comprehensive decisions online through , and update the optimal routing strategy in real time. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has good convergence performance and strong generalizability. Compared with traditional routing, the throughput is 8% higher, and the proposed method has load balancing characteristics.

Strategic Study of CAE 2004, Volume 6, Issue 1,   Pages 30-36

Abstract:

The satellite mobile network is a sky-based communication network whose basic physical architecture is satellite constellation, and it covers the global areas with the communication links between the satellites. The satellite mobile network gives great impetuses to social development, scientific and technical advancement and military normalization, and it gives enormous challenge to the researchers because of the mobile character of the sky-network, the unmeant disconnection of the communication, the complexity of the access, and the integration of the use. It is necessary to use the general concept design simulation to validate general requirement, general project, key technical guideline, and resourceful restrictive condition, and then to form a scientific feasibility report. This paper introduces the general concept of the satellite mobile network, and designs a platform that aims at the simulation of the sky-network, and gains the data of the general concept design simulation of the satellite mobile network with some examples.

Recognition and practice on remanufacturing engineering management of military aero-engine

Xiang Qiao

Strategic Study of CAE 2013, Volume 15, Issue 11,   Pages 67-73

Abstract:

Design, manufacture and maintenance of military fighter engine are particularly a lot more difficult to learn than those of other military aero-engines. Owing to military aero-engine is monopolized by very few countries and its core technology is never transferred, it features high risk, high investment, high barrier and high cost. Currently, design and manufacture of military aero-engine in China have not reached the level of independent research and development, instead, the method of long-term dependence on copying or importing others' military engine is adopted to meet the needs. However, after over twenty years of unremitting efforts of some domestic enterprise,Chinese all fighter engines including engines powered in designing aircraft have completely achieved the level of independent maintenance, whose maintenance technology, ability, quality, efficiency and cost have reached or surpassed those of importing nations, with a change developing from nothing and an improvement from weak to strong. In particular, more than ten projects concerning research and development of remanufacturing technology and the engineering application with the feature of independent intellectual property rights have promoted leapfrog improvement of Chinese military aero-engine independent maintenance level, whose function cannot be substituted.

Liu Daxiang

Strategic Study of CAE 1999, Volume 1, Issue 2,   Pages 24-29

Abstract:

It has been only 50 years since gas turbine engines arrived in the early 40´s, however, there have been great changes in gas turbine technology progress. Gas turbine engines has been playing an important role in the development of aviation industries.Turbofan engines are always at the leading edge in technical area. It has become the major power for modern fighter aircraft and transportation aircraft in the trunk airlines. Thrust-weight ratio, one of the most important technical parameters of fighter aircraft engine, has been improved from 2 in the early time to 8, while the fuel consumption has been reduced from 1.0 kg/daN ▪h to 0. 6~0.7 kg/daN▪h.

From late 40´s to the early of 21st century, there have been four generation replacements of fighter aircraft. Fighter aircraft engine with a thrust-weight ratio of 8 was emerged in early 7O´s. It remains the main model on active service for developed countries today, and is still under development.Fighter aircraft engine with a thrust-weight ratio of 10 is in development, and hopefully will be put into service by 2003. Aeronautically developed countries have been applying their aeroengine research and development program since 80´s, in order to provide themselves with military and commercial advantages. The target is to demonstrate engine technologies of a thrust-weight ratio of 15〜20 and a fuel consumption reduction of 30%〜40% . It is forecasted that this type of engine shall be successfully developed by the year of 2020, which double the engine capability. It shows that the development of aeroengine technologies is being accelerated.

Facing the 21st century of knowledge and economy, challenge and opportunity run together, difficulty and hope go in parallel. We must seize the chance, go along with the trend to speed up the aero technology development in China. Views and proposals are given in this paper.

Abstract:

Supporting seamless global coverage, satellite Internet is an important expansion and extension of terrestrial communication systems, plays a key role in the space–air–ground integrated network, and acts as an important information infrastructure for building China's strength in cyberspace. Developing satellite Internet is of great strategic significance, and corresponding research on its resource management and scheduling is urgently needed. This study illustrates the fundamental concepts and international development frontiers of satellite Internet as well as the basic elements and research progress of satellite Internet resource management and scheduling, identifies the challenges imposed by the new environment and new modes of satellite Internet, and proposes the development strategies. Moreover, it designs a technical route for satellite Internet resource management, including the primary stages of satellite – ground network interconnection, integration of heterogeneous resources, intelligent on-demand service, and native intelligence. In addition, this study proposes the model and architecture of satellite Internet resource management and scheduling, and constructs a key technical system involving high spatio-temporal dynamic resource characterization, multi-dimensional resource time-continuum deterministic analysis, multi-dimensional time-varying capacity pool indexing, and intelligent decision planning. To realize the intelligent and efficient management and scheduling of satellite Internet resources, we should focus on the network characteristics such as resource heterogeneity, dynamic change of network structure, and differentiated service requirements, implement satellite Internet resource management and scheduling according to the optimized technical route, achieve breakthroughs regarding corresponding key technologies, and integrate artificial intelligence technologies into the resource management and scheduling.
