Experimental investigation on possibility of oxygen enrichment by using gradient magnetic fields

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2007, Volume 1, Issue 3,   Pages 271-276 doi: 10.1007/s11705-007-0049-x

Abstract: This paper presents a novel method that uses the interception effect of gradient magnetic field on oxygen molecules to realize enrichment. The use of two opposite magnetic poles of two magnets at a certain distance forms a magnetic space having a field intensity gradient near its borders. When air injected into the magnetic space outflows from the magnetic space via its borders, oxygen molecules in the air will experience the interception effect of the gradient magnetic field, but nitrogen molecules will outflow from the magnetic space without hindrance. Thus, continuous oxygen enrichment is realized. The enrichment degree of oxygen reaches 0.65% when the inlet and outlet air flows are 40 mL/min and 20 mL/min, respectively, and the gas temperature is 298 K and the maximal product of magnetic flux density and its gradient is 563 T/m (the distance between two magnetic poles is 1 mm). When the gas temperature rises to 343 K, the enrichment degree drops to 0.32%; and when the maximal product of magnetic flux density and field intensity gradient drops to 101 T/m (the distance between two magnetic poles is 4 mm), the enrichment degree drops to 0.23%. The experimental results show that there is an optimal ratio between the inlet air flow and the outlet air flow. Under the experimental conditions in this paper, the value is about 2.0. It is demonstrated that the method presented in this paper can continuously enrich oxygen and has a higher enrichment degree than other oxygen-enrichment methods using magnetic separation.

Large geomagnetic anomaly of impending earthquake gives a possibility in earthquake early warning

Strategic Study of CAE 2011, Volume 13, Issue 4,   Pages 48-53

Abstract:

Strong magnetic anomalies repeatedly took place before big earthquakes. Based on geomagnetic record analysis results, we discussed a possible pattern of the magnetic anomalies prior to earthquake. In meizoseismal area or epicenter, in a time period of 36 hours to 10s minutes before earthquake, the exceptional big geomagnetic change increases with the magnitude of earthquake. We calculated that, in a place of 1 km from the epicenter, the magnetic anomaly before destructive earthquakes of Ms 6.0~9.5 can reach to 102~105 nT(the magnitude of earth's magnetic field is 5.5×104 nT), rather than the magnitude of 101 nT from seismomagnetic effect theories since 1964.From this we speculated the abnormal magnetic ULF near epicenter before earthquake seems to be an "intermittent magnetic eruption" . Accordingly, we proposed that geomagnetic induction earthquake pre-warning can be a new early warning method to surmount hardship in solving the puzzledom of earthquake imminent prediction.

Abstract:

This study was performed to evaluate the oncological and reproductive outcomes of childbearing-age women treated with fertility-sparing surgery (FSS) for non-epithelial ovarian tumors in China. One hundred and forty eight non-epithelial ovarian tumor women treated with FSS between January 1, 2000 and August 31, 2015 from two medical centers in China were identified. Progression-free survival (PFS) was 88.5%, whereas overall survival (OS) was 93.9%. Univariate analysis suggested that delivery after treatment is related to PFS (P=0.023), whereas histology significantly influenced OS. Cox regression analysis suggested that only histology was associated with PFS and OS (P<0.05). Among the 129 women who completed adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT), none developed amenorrhea. Among the 44 women who desired pregnancy, 35 (79.5%) successfully had 51 gestations including 35 live births without birth defects. Non-epithelial ovarian tumors can achieve fulfilling prognosis after FSS and chemotherapy. Histology might be the only independent prognostic factor for PFS and OS. FSS followed by ACT appeared to have little or no effect on fertility. Meanwhile, postoperative pregnancy did not increase the PFS or OS. Use of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist was not beneficial for fertility.
