Shale gas enrichment factors and the selection and evaluation of the core area

Wang Shejiao,Yang Tao,Zhang Guosheng,Li Denghua,Chen Xiaoming

Strategic Study of CAE 2012, Volume 14, Issue 6,   Pages 94-100

Abstract:

Many factors affect the size of the shale gas development. First and foremost factor is how to establish the geological evaluation standards and select the core area of shale gas. In the early stage of exploration the optimized shale gas core area makes it possible to identify the target and to select the most favorable region for exploration. The main purpose is to find shale gas and achieve economic development. Based on the analysis of shale gas reservoir characteristics and the enrichment factors we discuss the organic-rich shale maturity, mineral content, gas content and conservation parameters in China. Learn from the U.S. shale gas exploration and development and research, combined with the new progress of China's shale gas exploration and development and research, we establish china's first shale gas core area parameter system and value standards. Finally, we optimize some favorable areas and core areas of the marine shale in southern China and point out Southern Sichuan Basin is the most realistic area for shale gas development.

Genomic Mutations within the Host Microbiome: Adaptive Evolution or Purifying Selection Review

Jiachao Zhang,Rob Knight,

Engineering 2023, Volume 20, Issue 1,   Pages 96-102 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2021.11.018

Abstract:

Next-generation sequencing technology has transformed our ability to assess the taxonomic composition functions of host-associated microbiota and microbiomes. More human microbiome research projects—particularly those that explore genomic mutations within the microbiome—will be launched in the next decade. This review focuses on the coevolution of microbes within a microbiome, which shapes strain-level diversity both within and between host species. We also explore the correlation between microbial genomic mutations and common metabolic diseases, and the adaptive evolution of pathogens and probiotics during invasion and colonization. Finally, we discuss advances in methods and algorithms for annotating and analyzing microbial genomic mutations.

Some Thoughts on the Launch Vehicle Selection for China's Moon Exploration Program

Long Lehao

Strategic Study of CAE 2002, Volume 4, Issue 9,   Pages 31-37

Abstract:

“Developing Space Science and Conducting Deep Space Exploration” is one of the objectives for China's space development in the near future (i.e. around the year 2010). Moon exploration is the first step to achieve the goal of “Conducting Deep Space Exploration”.To put the moon probe (or satellite) into orbit, it is especially important to select the right type of launch vehicle(s). Starting from the basic requirements of the launch vehicle(s) for the moon exploration mission, experience of moon-faring nations and current status of Long March launch vehicles, the author analyses pros and cons of the three operational orbits for moon exploration and feasibility of the program, and identifies the candidate Long Mach launch vehicles and plans for their upgrades. Taking the optimization of the overall space system engineering into consideration, the author proposes, as the primary plan, that an LM-3B with an upper stage be used for launching the satellite and the upper stage for its hard (or soft) landing on the moon, and, as the secondary plan, an LM-3C for launching a probe into lunar transfer orbit.

Preparation and selection of Fe-Cu sorbent for COS removal in syngas

Bowu CHENG, Zhaofei CAO, Yong BAI, Dexiang ZHANG

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2010, Volume 4, Issue 4,   Pages 441-444 doi: 10.1007/s11705-010-0507-8

Abstract: A series of iron-based sorbents prepared with iron trioxide hydrate, cupric oxide by a novel method was studied in a fixed-bed reactor for COS removal from syngas at moderate temperature. In addition, the sorbents mixed with various additives in different ratios were tested. The effects of additive type and ratio on the breakthrough capacity and desulfurization performance, as well as the influence of operating conditions on sulfidation behavior of the sorbent, were investigated. The simulate gas contained 1% COS, 5% CO , 20%–30% CO and 60%–70% H . The outlet gases from the fixed-bed reactor were automatically analyzed by on-line mass spectrometry, and the COS concentration before breakthrough can be kept steady at 1 ppmv. The result shows that the breakthrough sulfur capacity of the sorbent is as high as 25 g-S/100 g. At 700 K and space velocity of 1000 h , the efficiency of sulfur removal and breakthrough sulfur capacity of the sorbent increase with the increase of copper oxide with an optimum value. The result shows that the species and content of additives also affect desulfurization performance of the sorbent.

High cadmium pollution risk on vegetable amaranth and a selection for pollution-safe cultivars to lower

Yihui ZHOU, Meng XUE, Zhongyi YANG, Yulian GONG, Jiangang YUAN, Chunyan ZHOU, Baifei HUANG

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2013, Volume 7, Issue 2,   Pages 219-230 doi: 10.1007/s11783-012-0469-9

Abstract: A pot experiment was carried out by growing 29 different genotypes ( spp.) of vegetable amaranth under low- (0.12 mg·kg ) and middle- (0.40 mg·kg ) cadmium (Cd) exposure. The result showed that amaranth was vulnerable to cadmium (Cd) contamination in soil. Variations of Cd concentrations in both roots and edible parts among genotypes were significant ( <0.001) in both treatments. Cd concentrations in edible parts of the tested genotypes grown under low- and middle-Cd levels were significantly correlated ( <0.01), implying that Cd-accumulating property of amaranth is genotype-dependent. Differences in Cd chemical forms between cv. Nanxingdayemashixian (cv. Nan), a selected typical pollution-safe cultivar (Cd-PSC), and cv. Pennongjianyexian (cv. Pen), a selected typical non-Cd-PSC, under different Cd exposure conditions were compared. It was found that the alternation of Cd in F (Cd form extracted by 1 mol·L NaCl) may be a key factor in regulating Cd accumulation of different amaranth genotypes and that the protein-binding Cd is considered to be associated with Cd translocation. The results indicated that amaranth is capable of enduring high level of Cd pollution when grown as vegetable crop, and accordingly, consuming vegetable amaranth would bring high health risk. Therefore, adopting Cd-PSC strategy would help reducing the risk of Cd pollution in amaranth. In this study, cv. Nan was identified as a Cd-PSC and recommended to be applied production practice.
