Strategic Study of CAE 2020, Volume 22, Issue 1,   Pages 146-152 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2020.01.019

Abstract:

Very small modular reactors (vSMRs) have become the focus of attention due to its great potential in land battlefield energy supply. It has the characteristics of flexible mobility, rapid energy supply, obvious cost advantages, and high safety. The problems of large fuel consumption, resupply difficulties, high costs and risks in the Iraqi and Afghan battlefields have led the US military to re-examine the use of vSMR in operational energy supply. This article starts with the historical process of the US Army’s development of vSMRs, and introduces representative types of vSMRs at present; then the author systematically analyzes the application scenarios, use mode, main advantages, and challenges of mobile nuclear power plants (MNPP) based on the vSMR technology. The research suggests that China should actively demonstrate the military applications of vSMR, and explore its use modes in different areas such as fixed installations, mobile battlefields, and overseas operations based on national conditions and military conditions. Taking the military demand as the traction, China should strengthen the military−civilian coordination in tackling key problems and accelerate the application of vSMR technology.

Engineering 2018, Volume 4, Issue 3,   Pages 381-391 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2018.05.013

Abstract:

This article analyzes the current research status and development trend of intelligent technologies for underground metal mines in China, where such technologies are under development for use to develop mineral resources in a safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly manner. We analyze and summarize the research status of underground metal mining technology at home and abroad, including some specific examples of equipment, technology, and applications. We introduce the latest equipment and technologies with independent intellectual property rights for unmanned mining, including intelligent and unmanned control technologies for rock-drilling jumbos, down-the-hole (DTH) drills, underground scrapers, underground mining trucks, and underground charging vehicles. Three basic platforms are used for intelligent and unmanned mining: the positioning and navigation platform, information-acquisition and communication platform, and scheduling and control platform. Unmanned equipment was tested in the Fankou Lead-Zinc Mine in China, and industrial tests on the basic platforms of intelligent and unmanned mining were carried out in the mine. The experiment focused on the intelligent scraper, which can achieve autonomous intelligent driving by relying on a wireless communication system, location and navigation system, and data-acquisition system. These industrial experiments indicate that the technology is feasible. The results show that unmanned mining can promote mining technology in China to an intelligent level and can enhance the core competitive ability of China’s mining industry.

Zong-feng QI, Qiao-qiao LIU, Jun WANG, Jian-xun LI

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2017, Volume 18, Issue 12,   Pages 1991-2000 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1601395

Abstract: The nodes number of the hidden layer in a deep learning network is quite difficult to determine with traditional methods. To solve this problem, an improved Kullback-Leibler divergence sparse autoencoder (KL-SAE) is proposed in this paper, which can be applied to battle damage assessment (BDA). This method can select automatically the hidden layer feature which contributes most to data reconstruction, and abandon the hidden layer feature which contributes least. Therefore, the structure of the network can be modified. In addition, the method can select automatically hidden layer feature without loss of the network prediction accuracy and increase the computation speed. Experiments on University of California-Irvine (UCI) data sets and BDA for battle damage data demonstrate that the method outperforms other reference data-driven methods. The following results can be found from this paper. First, the improved KL-SAE regression network can guarantee the prediction accuracy and increase the speed of training networks and prediction. Second, the proposed network can select automatically hidden layer effective feature and modify the structure of the network by optimizing the nodes number of the hidden layer.

Successful production of an all-female common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) population using cyp17a1-deficient neomale carp Article

Gang Zhai,Tingting Shu,Kuangxin Chen,Qiyong Lou,Jingyi Jia,Jianfei Huang,Chuang Shi,Xia Jin,Jiangyan He,Donghuo Jiang,Xueqiao Qian,Wei Hu,Zhan Yin,

Engineering 2022, Volume 8, Issue 1,   Pages 181-189 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2021.03.026

Abstract:

Due to sexual dimorphism in the growth of certain cultured fish species, the production of monosex fishes is desirable for the aquaculture industry. Nowadays, the most widely practiced technique available for the mass production of monosex fish populations is sex steroid-induced sex reversal. Here, a novel strategy for the successful production of all-female (AF) common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.), to take advantage of the sexual dimorphism in growth documented in this species, has been developed using genetic engineering via single gene-targeting manipulation without any exogenous hormone treatments. Male and female heterozygous cyp17a1-deficient common carp were first obtained using the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/CRISPR-associated endonuclease 9 (CRISPR/Cas9) technique. An all-male phenotype for homozygous cyp17a1-deficient carp, regardless of the individuals’ sex-determination genotypes (XY or XX), has been observed. A male-specific DNA marker newly identified in our laboratory was used to screen the neomale carp population with the XX genotype from the cyp17a1-deficient carp. These neomale carp develop a normal testis structure with normal spermatogenesis and sperm capacity. The neomale common carp were then mated with wild-type (WT) females (cyp17a1+/+ XX genotype) using artificial fertilization. All the AF offspring sample fish from the neomale-WT female mating were confirmed as having the cyp17a1+/− XX genotype, and normal development of gonads to ovaries was observed in 100.00% of this group at eight month post-fertilization (mpf). A total of 1000 carp fingerlings, 500 from the WT male and female and 500 from the neomale and WT female mating, were mixed and reared in the same pond. The average body weight of cyp17a1+/− XX females was higher by 6.60% (8 mpf) and 32.66% (12 mpf) than that of the control common carp. Our study demonstrates the first successful production of a monosex teleost population with the advantages of sexual dimorphism in growth using genetic manipulation targeting a single locus.

Abstract:

The material industry provides a material basis for national economic development, social progress, and national defense security. Materials are particularly important for China as it now enters the middle and late stage of industrialization. Conducting strategic research on new materials will help strengthen China’s manufacturing sector. In this article, we systematically analyze the development status, trend, and problems regarding the new material industry in China and abroad and summarize the domestic and foreign policies for the industry. After analyzing the future strategic demands for the new materials, we propose the overall idea, characteristics, and goals of the new material power strategy. The key direction of the strategy need to focus on fields such as advanced basic materials, key strategic materials, and frontier materials. An evaluation–characterization–standards platform should be established for new materials. Furthermore, we propose some policy suggestions to facilitate the development of China’s new material industry and provide a reference for the decision making by relevant government departments. Specifically, an independent innovation system for new materials should be constructed; platforms for digital R & D, production application demonstration, and resource sharing should also be established; the quality and technology infrastructure should be improved; and talent teams dedicated for the development of the new material industry should be created.

Development Strategy of “New Medicine” Under the Background of Healthy China

He Ke, Wang Ling

Strategic Study of CAE 2019, Volume 21, Issue 2,   Pages 98-102 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2019.02.007

Abstract:

This paper starts with the connotation of “new medicine” under the background of Healthy China, focuses on the “new medicine” talent training system, and illustrates the necessity and urgency of developing “new medicine” from three aspects, which are new strategic requirements for serving China’s health construction, external demands for meeting the country’s transformation and development, and internal demands for meeting the medical reform. This paper further elaborates the basic strategy of “1234” for developing “new medicine”, namely, adhering to the “new concept” of “one center”, establishing the “new quality” of “two types of balance”, promoting the “new system” of “three coordinations”, and strengthening the “new model” of “four kinds of crossing”. And this paper suggests that we should actively seek for strong support from government departments, comprehensively promote the overall development of medical personnel, and accelerate innovation in interdisciplinary integration, thus to provide useful reference for high-level medical personnel training in China.
