Studies on catalytic reduction of nitrate in groundwater

摘要: Catalytic reduction of nitrate in groundwater by sodium formate over the catalyst was investigated. Pd-Cu/-AlO catalyst was prepared by impregnation and characterized by brunauer-emmett-teller (BET), inductive coupled plasma (ICP), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX). It was found that total nitrogen was effectively removed from the nitrate solution (100 mg/L) and the removal efficiency was 87%. The catalytic activity was affected by pH, catalyst amount used, concentration of sodium formate, and initial concentration of nitrate. As sodium formate was used as reductant, precise control in the initial pH was needed. Excessively high or low initial pH (7.0 or 3.0) reduced catalytic activity. At initial pH of 4.5, catalytic activity was enhanced by reducing the amount of catalyst, while concentrations of sodium formate increased with a considerable decrease in N selectivity. In which case, catalytic reduction followed the first order kinetics.

Hydrogenation of furfuryl alcohol to tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol on NiB/SiO2 amorphous alloy catalyst

摘要: NiB/SiO amorphous alloy catalyst was prepared by power electroless plating method and characterized by induction coupled plasma (ICP), Brunauer Emmett Teller method (BET), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The catalytic performance of NiB/SiO was investigated for the hydrogenation of furfuryl alcohol (FA) to tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA). The effects of operational conditions, such as reaction temperature, pressure, and stirring rate were carefully studied. The proper conditions were determined as the following: pressure 2.0 MPa, temperature 120?C and stirring rate 550 r/min. A typical result with FA conversion of 99% and THFA selectivity of 100% was obtained under such conditions, which was close to that over Raney Ni.

Preparation of rare-earth metal complex oxide catalysts for catalytic wet air oxidation

摘要: Catalytic wet air oxidation (CWAO) is one of the most promising technologies for pollution abatement. Developing catalysts with high activity and stability is crucial for the application of the CWAO process. The Mn/Ce complex oxide catalysts for CWAO of high concentration phenolcontaining wastewater were prepared by coprecipitation. The catalyst preparation conditions were optimized by using an orthogonal layout method and single-factor experimental analysis. The Mn/Ce serial catalysts were characterized by Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET) analysis and the metal cation leaching was measured by inductively coupled plasma torch-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). The results show that the catalysts have high catalytic activities even at a low temperature (80?C) and low oxygen partial pressure (0.5 MPa) in a batch reactor. The metallic ion leaching is comparatively low (Mn<6.577 mg/L and Ce<0.6910 mg/L, respectively) in the CWAO process. The phenol, COD, and TOC removal efficiencies in the solution exceed 98.5% using the optimal catalyst (named CSP). The new catalyst would have a promising application in CWAO treatment of high concentration organic wastewater.
