Investigation on multiple-melting behavior of nano-CaCO3/polypropylene composites

摘要: The multiple melting-peak behavior of polypropylene (PP) in nano-CaCO/PP composites and modified nano-CaCO/PP composites were investigated under the condition of isothermal crystallization and nonisothermal crystallization. The result indicated that the addition of nano-CaCO markedly increased the crystallization temperatures of PP and induced the formation of the β-crystal of PP. The crystallization temperatures of nano-CaCO/PP composites modified by reactive monomers were further increased, but the melting-peak intensity of the β-crystal of PP was not greatly influenced. While in the presence of dicumyl peroxide, nano-CaCO/PP composites modified by reactive monomers led to the significant increase in the melting-peak intensity of the β-crystal of PP. The double melting-peak of PP was observed, which was attributed to the formation of two kinds of different crystallization forms of α-crystal or β-crystal during the crystallization of PP. With the increase of crystallization temperatures, the double melting-peak moved toward the high-temperature side. The intensity of high-temperature melting peak was higher than that of low-temperature melting peak in nano-CaCO/PP composites. While in modified nano-CaCO/PP composites crystallized at higher temperature, the intensity of high-temperature melting peak was lower than that of low-temperature melting peak. The isothermal crystallization time had little effect on the melting temperatures.

A novel approach in preparing polymer/nano-CaCO composites

摘要: An novel compounding process using nano-CaCO aqueous suspension for preparing polymer/nano-CaCO composites with nanoparticles dispersed at the nanoscale is reported. The process is called the mild mixing method. In this method, the pre-dispersed nanoparticle suspensions are blended with melting polymers in a weak shearing field using an extruder, followed by removing the water from the vent. The four typical polymeric nanocomposites were prepared by mild mixing method. The dispersion of nano-CaCO in the matrix of the polymer at the nanoscale was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The molecular weights of polycarbonate (PC) and its nanocomposite showed that the degradation had not occurred during the mild mixing processing. The mechanical properties of the composite with 1.5 wt-% nano-CaCO improve slightly. It proved that this approach is suitable for the preparation of nanocomposites based on both polar and non-polar polymers.

Preparation and properties of nano SiO2 core-shell structured additives and their nanocomposite with

摘要: To improve the performance of traditional nucleation additives and their compatibility with other additives, as well as to solve complex problems in practical applications, SiO precursors were reactively grafted in situ with the symmetrical hydroxyl groups of the nucleation agents. With this approach, the dissymmetrical part of the nucleation agents plays an important role. As a result, the prepared composite additive the nanoparticle precursor (NPP0) produces excellent results. The NPP0-PP composite has a transparency of over 93%, haze lower than 15%, and a heat distortion temperature (HDT) of 142?C, which is more than the 110?C of the pure PP matrix. In addition, it maintains over 90% of the mechanical properties with a deformation coefficient less than 1%. This indicates a strong nanoeffect.

本文采用麦秸粉为增强体,分别与高密度聚乙烯(HDPE)、聚丙烯(PP)热塑性塑料基体采用挤出方式混合制备木塑复合材料,研究麦秸粉与HDPE、PP的配比对复合材料性能的影响。加入少量麦秸粉使木塑复合材料力学性能降低,随着麦秸粉含量的增加,复合材料的力学性能呈提高的趋势;当麦秸粉含量超过一定比例时,木塑复合材料力学性能降低,且冲击性能降低明显;本次试验HDPE基木塑复合材料力学强度略高于PP

Formation of CaCO hollow microspheres in carbonated distiller waste from Solvay soda ash plants

摘要: For decades, distiller waste and CO2 were not the first choice for production of high valued products. Here, CaCO3 hollow microspheres, a high-value product was synthesized from such a reaction system. The synthetic methods, the formation mechanism and operational cost were discussed. When 2.5 L·min–1·L–1 CO2 was flowed into distiller waste (pH = 11.4), spheres with 4–13 μm diameters and about 2 μm shell thickness were obtained. It is found that there is a transformation of CaCO3 particles from solid-cubic nuclei to hollow spheres. Firstly, the Ca(OH)2 in the distiller waste stimulated the nucleation of calcite with a non-template effect and further maintained the calcite form and prevented the formation of vaterite. Therefore, in absence of auxiliaries, the formation of hollow structures mainly depended on the growth and aging of CaCO3. Studies on the crystal morphology and its changes during the growth process point to the inside–out Ostwald effect in the formation of hollow spheres. Change in chemical properties of the bulk solution caused changes in interfacial tension and interfacial energy, which promoted the morphological transformation of CaCO3 particles from cubic calcite to spherical clusters. Finally, the flow process for absorption of CO2 by distiller waste was designed and found profitable.

Synthesis and characterization of macromolecular surface modifier PP--PEG for polypropylene

摘要: A novel macromolecular surface modifier, polypropylene-grafted-poly(ethylene glycol) copolymer (PP--PEG), was synthesized by coupling polypropylene containing maleic anhydride with monohydroxyl-terminated poly(ethylene glycol). The effects of the reaction condition on the graft reactions were studied. The copolymers were characterized by IR, H NMR, thermogravimetry (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results indicated that the graft reactions were hindered by increasing the molecular weight of PP or PEG. The graft copolymer was found to have a higher initial thermal degradation temperature and lower crystallization capacity as compared with pure PP, and the side chain of PEG hindered the PP chain from forming a perfect ? crystal. The thermal stability of PP--PEG decreased with the increasing content or molecular weight of PEG. The copolymers were blended with polypropylene to modify the surface hydrophilicity of the products. The results of attenuated total reflectance FTIR spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) showed that PP--PEG could diffuse preferably onto the surface of the blends and be suitable as an effectual macromolecular surface modifier for PP.

Fluoride ions adsorption from water by CaCO enhanced Mn–Fe mixed metal oxides

摘要: Novel CaCO3-enhanced Mn–Fe mixed metal oxides (CMFC) were successfully prepared for the first time by a simple-green hydrothermal strategy without any surfactant or template combined with calcination process. These oxides were then employed as an adsorbent for adsorptive removal of excess fluoride ions. The adsorbent was characterized by SEM, XPS, XRD, FTIR, and BET analysis techniques. The adsorption property of CMFC toward fluoride ion was analyzed by batch experiments. In fact, CMFC exhibited adsorption capacity of 227.3 mg∙g‒1 toward fluoride ion. Results showed that ion exchange, electrostatic attraction and chemical adsorption were the main mechanism for the adhesion of large amount of fluoride ion on the CMFC surface, and the high adsorption capacity responded to the low pH of the adsorption system. When the fluoride ion concentration was increased from 20 to 200 mg∙L‒1, Langmuir model was more in line with experimental results. The change of fluoride ion adsorption with respect to time was accurately described by pseudo-second-order kinetics. After five cycles of use, the adsorbent still maintains a performance of 70.6% of efficiency, compared to the fresh adsorbent. Therefore, this material may act as a potential candidate for adsorbent with broad range of application prospects.

摘要: 本研究采用肿瘤坏死因子(TNF-α)和酒精处理的Caco-2细胞单层膜模型,评价了139株乳杆菌在体外对肠道屏障功能的影响。本研究建立了一种基于Caco-2细胞单层膜模型的体外方法,用于高效筛选可以抵抗特定代谢疾病(如骨质疏松症和慢性酒精性肝病)的益生菌。

木粉/聚丙烯复合材料的非等温结晶动力学分析

摘要:

通过共混造粒热压方法制备聚丙烯(PP)基木塑复合材料(WPC),用差示扫描量热法研究其非等温结晶行为,分别用Jeziorny 法和Mo法对所得的数据进行处理分析结果表明:Jeziorny 法和Mo法能较理想地处理PP 基WPC的非等温结晶过程,复合材料中木粉的加入缩短了结晶时间,提高了PP 的结晶温度,降低了结晶速率。

摘要: Emulsified asphalt is the primary material for preventive maintenance and cold-mix paving, but its low cohesive strength and poor mechanical properties limit its wide application, even with polymer modification. In this study, Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR) emulsified asphalt was modified with nano-cellulose materials, namely nano paper-cellulose (NPC) and wood-derived nano-cellulose (WDC), to improve its properties. A novel preparation method of nano-cellulose solution was developed, including blending, ultrasonic stirring, and centrifugal treatment. Four types of nano-cellulose solution (0.5% NPC, 0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5% WDC by weight of water) were selected. The microscopy analysis indicated that 0.5% WDC emulsion had a smaller particle size than 1.5% WDC emulsion. The rheology test indicated that WDC modified residue improved rutting resistance with the increased solution dosage due to the cross-linking effect, but its creep-and-recovery performance was worse than that of SBR emulsion residue. The NPC modified binder had a higher rutting factor than WDC modified binder at the same dosage after short-term aging. In addition, 1.0% WDC could be regarded as the optimal dosage in terms of fatigue and low-temperature performance. Furthermore, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) results showed that 0.5% NPC modified residue performed better in long-term aging resistance compared with 0.5%WDC modified asphalt.

Pd nano-catalyst supported on biowaste-derived porous nanofibrous carbon microspheres for efficient catalysis

摘要: Environmental pollution caused by the presence of aromatic aldehydes and dyes in wastewater is a serious global concern. An effective strategy for the removal of these pollutants is their catalytic conversion, possibly to valuable compounds. Therefore, the design of efficient, stable and long-lifetime catalysts is a worthwhile research goal. Herein, we used nanofibrous carbon microspheres (NCM) derived from the carbohydrate chitin present in seafood waste, and characterized by interconnected nanofibrous networks and N/O-containing groups, as carriers for the manufacture of a highly dispersed, efficient and stable Pd nano-catalyst (mean diameter ca. 2.52 nm). Importantly, the carbonised chitin’s graphitized structure, defect presence and large surface area could promote the transport of electrons between NCM and Pd, thereby endowing NCM supported Pd catalyst with high catalytic activity. The NCM supported Pd catalyst was employed in the degradation of some representative dyes and the chemoselective hydrogenation of aromatic aldehydes; this species exhibited excellent catalytic activity and stability, as well as applicability to a broad range of aromatic aldehydes, suggesting its potential use in green industrial catalysis.

Immunological effects of nano-enabled hyperthermia for solid tumors: opportunity and challenge

摘要: Compared to conventional hyperthermia that is limited by low selectivity and severe side effects, nano-enabled hyperthermia yields great potentials to tackle these limitations for cancer treatment. Another major advance is the observation of immunological responses associated with nano-enabled hyperthermia, which introduces a new avenue, allowing a potential paradigm shift from the acutely effective and cytotoxicity-centric response to the next-phase discovery, i.e., long-lasting and/or systemic anti-tumor immunity. This perspective first discusses the temperature-gradient and the spatially-structured immunological landscape in solid tumors receiving nano-enabled hyperthermia. This includes the discussion about underlying mechanism such as immunogenic cell death, which initiates a profound immunological chain reaction. In order to propagate the immune activation as a viable therapeutic principle, we further discussed the tumor type-specific complexity in the immunological tumor microenvironment, including the creative design of nano-enabled combination therapy to synergize with nano-enabled hyperthermia.

Behavior of aqueous stable colloidal nano-C

摘要: C , as one of carbon nanomaterials widely used in various fields, could be released into the water environment thus exerting some potential health risks to human beings. This work examined the behavior of aqueous stable colloidal nano-C (nC ) aggregates under different environmental conditions including Polyethylene glycol octylphenol ether (TX100) micelles concentration, pH, and reaction time when exposed to TX100 micelles. Results show that the nC aggregates became more dispersive and restored the capability of generating the singlet oxygen when exposed to TX100 micelles. With the increase of TX100 concentration, smaller average size of nC aggregates was observed in dynamic light scattering (DLS) analysis, the fluorescence intensity of TX100 was more quenched by nC aggregates, and the kinetic rate constant of generating the singlet oxygen for nC aggregates was improved. The mean size of nC aggregates in the presence of TX100 had no obvious variations when the pH ranged from 4 to 8. The longer reaction time between nC aggregates and TX100 led to a higher kinetic rate constant of generating the singlet oxygen. Collective data suggest that variations in physicochemical properties of nC aggregates are strongly dependent on the surrounding media under different environmental conditions and directly govern nC ’s transport behavior and potential toxicity.
