Frontiers of Engineering Management 2021, Volume 8, Issue 3,   Pages 356-369 doi: 10.1007/s42524-021-0153-5

Abstract: Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) is a modern multivariate analysis techniqueAccordingly, a critical review of studies adopting PLS-SEM appears to be a timely and valuable endeavorThis paper offers a critical review of 139 articles that applied PLS-SEM from 2002 to 2019.Results show that the misuse of PLS-SEM can be avoided.and provides recommendations to facilitate the future application of PLS-SEM in this field.

Effects of alkali treatment on mechanism of extrusion bonding of eucalyptus wood fiber

Peng Wanxi,Lin Zhi and Li Niancun

Strategic Study of CAE 2014, Volume 16, Issue 4,   Pages 64-68

Abstract:

Eucalyptus wood fiber was prepared to investigate the effects of alkali treatment on mechanism of extrusion bonding of the board. The results showed that hemi-cellulose and lignin were partly degraded during eucalyptus wood fiber were treated with alkali, these degraded substances could be copolymerized during hot-pressing,the influence of alkali (NaOH) on eucalyptus wood fiber was greater than the weak base (Na2CO3) and the processing time for 10 h was more appropriate, and the increased hydroxyl after defibrinating partly formed hydrogen-bonding during hot-pressing,resulting in strengthened fiber self-bonding.

Effects of natural zeolite and sulfate ions on the mechanical properties and microstructure of plastic concrete

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2022, Volume 16, Issue 1,   Pages 86-98 doi: 10.1007/s11709-021-0793-x

Abstract: One of the strategic materials used in earth-fill embankment dams and in modifying and preventing groundwater flow is plastic concrete (PlC). PlC is comprised of aggregates, water, cement, and bentonite. Natural zeolite (NZ) is a relatively abundant mineral resource and in this research, the microstructure, unconfined strength, triaxial behavior, and permeability of PlC made with 0%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% replacement of cement by NZ were studied. Specimens of PIC-NZ were subjected to confined conditions and three different confining pressures of 200, 350, and 500 kPa were used to investigate their mechanical behavior and permeability. To study the effect of sulfate ions on the properties of PlC-NZ specimens, the specimens were cured in one of two different environments: normal condition and in the presence of sulfate ions. Results showed that increasing the zeolite content decreases the unconfined strength, elastic modulus, and peak strength of PlC-NZ specimens at the early ages of curing. However, at the later ages, increasing the zeolite content increases unconfined strength as well as the peak strength and elastic modulus. Specimens cured in the presence of sulfate ions indicated lower permeability, higher unconfined strength, elastic modulus, and peak strength due to having lower porosity.

Experimental investigation of fatigue behavior of spur gear in altered tooth-sum gearing

H. K. SACHIDANANDA, Joseph GONSALVIS, H. R. PRAKASH

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2012, Volume 7, Issue 3,   Pages 268-278 doi: 10.1007/s11465-012-0331-6

Abstract:

This paper deals with the contact stress, power loss, and pitting of spur gear tooth in altered tooth-sum gearing for a tooth-sum of 100 teeth when altered by±4% tooth-sum. Analytical and experimental methods were performed to investigate and compare the altered tooth-sum gearing against the standard tooth-sum gearing. The experiments were performed using a power recirculating type test rig. The tooth loads for the experimental investigations were determined considering the surface durability of gears. A clear picture of the surface damage was obtained using a scanning electron microphotograph. The negative alteration in the tooth-sum performed better than the positive alteration in a tooth-sum operating between specified center distances.
