Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2021, Volume 22, Issue 5,   Pages 615-766 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2000341

Abstract: In this study, (TiS) polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film-type (SA) is synthesized with a modulation depth of 5.08% and a saturable intensity of 10.62 MW/cm by liquid-phase exfoliation and spin-coating methods. Since TiS-based SA has a strong nonlinear saturable absorption property, two types of optical soliton were observed in a mode-locked Er-doped . When the pump power was raised to 67.3 mW, a conventional mode-locked pulse train with a repetition rate of 1.716 MHz and a pulse width of 6.57 ps was generated, and the output spectrum centered at 1556.98 nm and 0.466 nm spectral width with obvious Kelly sidebands was obtained. Another type of mode-locked pulse train with the maximum output power of 3.92 mW and pulse energy of 2.28 nJ at the pump power of 517.2 mW was achieved when the polarization controllers were adjusted. Since TiS-based SA has excellent nonlinear saturable absorption characteristics, broad applications in ultrafast photonic are expected.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2021, Volume 22, Issue 3,   Pages 287-436 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2000372

Abstract: We demonstrate the generation of noise-like pulses (NLPs) and soliton rains in a saturable absorber mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser. Typical NLPs are obtained at a proper pump power and in a cavity polarization state. The soliton rain operation with multiple solitons can be achieved by finely adjusting the cavity polarization state. In addition, distinctive multi-soliton interactions are observed and investigated, including the fundamental mode-locking and multiple pulses. The experimental results can help further understand nonlinear pulse dynamics in ultrafast optics.

Imposing Active Sources during High-Frequency Passive Surface-Wave Measurement Article

Feng Cheng,Jianghai Xia,Chao Shen,Yue Hu,Zongbo Xu,Binbin Mi

Engineering 2018, Volume 4, Issue 5,   Pages 685-693 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2018.08.003

Abstract:

Passive surface-wave utilization has been intensively studied as a means of compensating for the shortage of low-frequency information in active surface-wave measurement. In general, passive surface-wave methods cannot provide phase velocities up to several tens of hertz; thus, active surface-wave methods are often required in order to increase the frequency range. To reduce the amount of field work, we propose a strategy for a high-frequency passive surface-wave survey that imposes active sources during continuous passive surface-wave observation; we call our strategy “mixed-source surface-wave (MSW) measurement.” Short-duration (within 10 min) passive surface waves and mixed-source surface waves were recorded at three sites with different noise levels: namely, inside a school, along a road, and along a railway. Spectral analysis indicates that the high-frequency energy is improved by imposing active sources during continuous passive surface-wave observation. The spatial autocorrelation (SPAC) method and the multichannel analysis of passive surface waves (MAPS) method based on cross-correlations were performed on the recorded time sequences. The results demonstrate the flexibility and applicability of the proposed method for high-frequency phase velocity analysis. We suggest that it will be constructive to perform MSW measurement in a seismic investigation, rather than exclusively performing either active surface-wave measurement or passive surface-wave measurement.

Impact of Polarization Mode Dispersion on High-Speed Optical Codes

Strategic Study of CAE 2002, Volume 4, Issue 11,   Pages 67-70

Abstract:

The first and second-order polarization mode dispersion (PMD) effect on the performance of 10 Gbit/s and 40 Gbit/s systems is studied. The statistical behavior of PMD is considered by simulating the nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ) and return-to-zero (RZ) pulses distortion and the system's Q-factor based on principal states of polarization (PSP) theory. It is found that the effect of PMD is significant in higher bit rate systems and the second-order PMD cannot be neglected. Furthermore, the RZ format is more tolerant to PMD than is the NRZ format, and the system performance is improved if the input pulses are appropriately chirped.

Extension Controller Design via Sliding Mode Control

Chen Jenyang,Wong Chingchang

Strategic Study of CAE 2001, Volume 3, Issue 9,   Pages 48-51

Abstract:

In this paper, a novel extension controller based on the scheme of sliding mode control is investigated. The control strategy of the proposed controller is divided into two parts. One part is the equivalent control of sliding mode control. It can be directly obtained from the known nominal system. The other part is the well-known robust control. This control term is used to compensate the system uncertainty and external disturbance. By integrating the essential concept of extension set theory with the sliding mode control , the robust extension controller can be easily realized. In this study, a basic extension controller is organized first without any specific expert knowledge about the controlled system. The extension dependent functions are employed to provide system states´ information under control. A set of parameter is incorporated in the extension controller so that a robust control, also called as a hitting control, is established to guarantee the system robust stability. Actually, the proposed extension controller is stable in the sense of the Lyapunov. Finally, the proposed extension controller is applied to controlling a nonlinear system to verify its effectiveness and ability.

Abstract:

An observer based on external and internal dynamics is designed, making the error between observing value and factual value to zero. Moreover, a continuously high-gain sliding mode controller is presented by using a sliding mode state which can make the error between the output and reference signal converge to zero. The analysis of stability and the result of simulation indicate that the controller designed has strong robustness and rapid convergence.

Influence of motor cable on common-mode currents in an inverter-fed motor drive system None

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2018, Volume 19, Issue 2,   Pages 273-284 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1601518

Abstract: Induction motor drive systems fed by cables are widely used in industrial applications. However, high-frequency switching of power devices will cause common-mode (CM) voltages during operation, leading to serious CM currents in the motor drive systems. CM currents through the cables and motors in the drive systems can cause electromagnetic interference (EMI) with the surrounding electronic equipment and shorten the life of induction motors. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the CM cur-rents in motor drive systems. In this paper, high-frequency models of unshielded and shielded power cables are formulated. The frequency-dependent effects and mutual inductances of the cables are taken into account. The power cable parameters are ex-tracted by the finite element method and validated by measurements. High-frequency models of induction motors and inverters are introduced from existing works. The CM currents at the motor and inverter terminals are obtained, and the influence of the cable length and cable type on the CM currents is analyzed. There is a good agreement between the experimental results and the CM currents predicted by the proposed models.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2021, Volume 22, Issue 12,   Pages 1551-1684 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2000658

Abstract: For the use in low-power and lossy networks (LLNs) under complex and harsh communication conditions, the routing protocol for LLNs (RPL) standardized by the Internet Engineering Task Force is specially designed. To improve the performance of LLNs, we propose a novel RPL algorithm based on a (CAR-TMO). A novel composite routing metric (CA-RM) is designed, which synchronously evaluates the residual energy index, buffer occupancy ratio of a node, expected transmission count (ETX), delay, and hop count from a candidate parent to the root. CA-RM considers the residual energy index and buffer occupancy ratio of the candidate parent and its preferred parent in a recursive manner to reduce the effect of upstream parents, since farther paths are considered. CA-RM comprehensively uses the sum, mean, and standard deviation values of ETX and delay of links in a path to ensure a better performance. Moreover, in CAR-TMO, the of each routing metric is designed. Then, a comprehensive is constructed based on a , the of each routing metric, and a comprehensive objective function. A novel mechanism for calculating the node rank and the mechanisms for preferred parent selection are proposed. Finally, theoretical analysis and simulation results show that CAR-TMO outperforms several state-of-the-art RPL algorithms in terms of the packet delivery ratio and energy efficiency.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2016, Volume 17, Issue 12,   Pages 1331-1343 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1500318

Abstract: Direct adaptive fuzzy sliding mode control design for discrete non-affine nonlinear systems is presented for trajectory tracking problems with disturbance. To obtain adaptiveness and eliminate chattering of sliding mode control, a dynamic fuzzy logical system is used to implement an equivalent control, in which the parameters are self-tuned online. Stability of the sliding mode control is validated using the Lyapunov analysis theory. The overall system is adaptive, asymptotically stable, and chattering-free. A numerical simulation and an application to a robotic arm with two degrees of freedom further verify the good performance of the control design.

Strategic Study of CAE 2001, Volume 3, Issue 11,   Pages 49-53

Abstract:

Vectorial eigenmodes supported by the buried rectangular and rib optical waveguides are obtained using variable transformed series expansion method. The infinite x-y plane is mapped into a unit square by an elegant tangent-type variable transformation. Consequently, the boundary truncation is not necessary, and the nonphysical reflection is eliminated. As a result, the calculation accuracy is promoted. In addition, small matrix derived from this method promotes the computational efficiency. Comparatively agreeing with those previously published, the results can be used to optimize the photonic devices.
