Abstract: The era of big data in healthcare is here, and this era will significantly improve medicine and especially oncology. However, traditional machine learning algorithms need to be promoted to solve such large-scale real-world problems due to a large amount of data that needs to be analyzed and the difficulty in solving problems with nonconvex nonlinear settings. We aim to minimize the composite of a smooth nonlinear function and a block-separable nonconvex function on a large number of block variables with inequality constraints. We propose a novel parallel first-order optimization method, called asynchronous block coordinate descent with (ATP), which adopts a technique that escapes from saddle points and sub-optimal local points. The details of the proposed method are presented with analyses of convergence and iteration complexity properties. Experiments conducted on real-world machine learning problems validate the efficacy of our proposed method. The experimental results demonstrate that enables ATP to escape from saddle points and sub-optimal points, providing a promising way to handle nonconvex optimization problems with inequality constraints employing asynchronous block coordinate descent. The asynchronous parallel implementation on shared memory multi-core platforms indicates that the proposed algorithm, ATP, has strong scalability.

Anefficient parallel and distributed solution to nonconvex penalized linear SVMs Personal View

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2020, Volume 21, Issue 4,   Pages 587-603 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1800566

Abstract: Support vector machines (SVMs) have been recognized as a powerful tool to perform linear classification. When combined with the sparsity-inducing nonconvex penalty, SVMs can perform classification and variable selection simultaneously. However, the nonconvex penalized SVMs in general cannot be solved globally and efficiently due to their nondifferentiability, nonconvexity, and nonsmoothness. Existing solutions to the nonconvex penalized SVMs typically solve this problem in a serial fashion, which are unable to fully use the parallel computing power of modern multi-core machines. On the other hand, the fact that many real-world data are stored in a distributed manner urgently calls for a parallel and distributed solution to the nonconvex penalized SVMs. To circumvent this challenge, we propose an efficient alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) based algorithm that solves the nonconvex penalized SVMs in a parallel and distributed way. We design many useful techniques to decrease the computation and synchronization cost of the proposed parallel algorithm. The time complexity analysis demonstrates the low time complexity of the proposed parallel algorithm. Moreover, the convergence of the parallel algorithm is guaranteed. Experimental evaluations on four LIBSVM benchmark datasets demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed parallel algorithm.

Strategic Study of CAE 2012, Volume 14, Issue 7,   Pages 98-102

Abstract:

Aiming at the problem of modeling for non-equidistant sequence, the non-equidistant GM(1,1) power model was proposed. A non-linear optimization model is constructed with the objective of minimum average relative error, the constraints of relationships between parameters in order to optimize the power exponent and the background value. The results showed that the form of non equidistant GM(1,1) power model was more flexible than the traditional ones. Both non equidistant GM(1,1) model and Grey Verhulst model were the special cases of non equidistant GM(1,1) power model. Optimization of power exponent helped to improve modeling accuracy. Finally, an engineering example of non-equidistant sequence shows modeling accuracy in traditional modeling, which was significantly improved by non equidistant GM(1,1) power model.

Strategic Study of CAE 2012, Volume 14, Issue 11,   Pages 88-93

Abstract:

Aiming at the characteristic of the formation water of Huaqing Chang 6 reservoir and taking the comprehensive foaming ability as evaluation index, 6 foaming agents were optimized. ZY-1 foaming agent was the optimal foaming agent, and the optimal foaming agent concentration and foam stabilizer concentration were 0.5 % and 764 mg/L respectively. On the basis of the foaming agent optimization result, using parallel cores with approximate permeability contrast,CO2 foam flooding experiment was simulated through 2 injection way. The experiment result showed that underground foaming way, CO2 and the foaming agent injected alternately, had higher plugging differential pressure and better displacement efficiency. The optimal injection slug combination was first 0.2 PV (pore volume) foaming agent solution and then 0.4 PV CO2 gas, and the total injected volume was 0.6 PV.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2016, Volume 17, Issue 1,   Pages 32-40 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1500171

Abstract:

Vector graphic, as a kind of geometric representation of raster images, has many advantages, e.g., definition independence and editing facility. A popular way to convert raster images into vector graphics is image meshing, the aim of which is to find a mesh to represent an image as faithfully as possible. For traditional meshing algorithms, the crux of the problem resides mainly in the high non-linearity and non-smoothness of the objective, which makes it difficult to find a desirable optimal solution. To ameliorate this situation, we present a hierarchical optimization algorithm solving the problem from coarser levels to finer ones, providing initialization for each level with its coarser ascent. To further simplify the problem, the original non-convex problem is converted to a linear least squares one, and thus becomes convex, which makes the problem much easier to solve. A dictionary learning framework is used to combine geometry and topology elegantly. Then an alternating scheme is employed to solve both parts. Experiments show that our algorithm runs fast and achieves better results than existing ones for most images.

Resource allocation for physical-layer security in OFDMAdownlinkwith imperfect CSI None

Wei YANG, Jing MAO, Chen CHEN, Xiang CHENG, Liu-qing YANG, Hai-ge XIANG

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2018, Volume 19, Issue 3,   Pages 398-408 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1700026

Abstract: We investigate the problem of resource allocation in a downlink orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) broadband network with an eavesdropper under the condition that both legitimate users and the eavesdropper are with imperfect channel state information (CSI). We consider three kinds of imperfect CSI: (1) noise and channel estimation errors, (2) feedback delay and channel prediction, and (3) limited feedback channel capacity, where quantized CSI is studied using rate-distortion theory because it can be used to establish an informationtheoretic lower bound on the capacity of the feedback channel. The problem is formulated as joint power and subcarrier allocation to optimize the maximum-minimum (max-min) fairness criterion over the users’ secrecy rate. The problem considered is a mixed integer nonlinear programming problem. To reduce the complexity, we propose a two-step suboptimal algorithm that separately performs power and subcarrier allocation. For a given subcarrier assignment, optimal power allocation is achieved by developing an algorithm of polynomial computational complexity. Numerical results show that our proposed algorithm can approximate the optimal solution.

Transient Heat Transfer Problems for Buried Hot Waxy Crude Pipelines

Cui Xiuguo,Zhang Jinjun

Strategic Study of CAE 2003, Volume 5, Issue 7,   Pages 77-83

Abstract:

Most crude oils produced in China are waxy crude with poor flowability at ambient temperature. Pipelining waxy crudes by means of heating is a common practice. Some complex transient heat transfer problems are accompanied with hot oil pipelines. The state-of-the-art and recent advances in transient heat transfer research for buried hot waxy crude pipelines are summarized from the two aspects of the internal heat transfer from the oil to the pipe and the external heat transfer from the pipe to the surrounding soil. The factors governing the heat transfer of buried pipelines are discussed, and various methods involved to solve heat transfer through surrounding soil, analytically and numerically, are discussed and compared. The complex heat transfer with phase transformation and moving boundary for shut-down waxy crude pipelines is described and methods to tackle this complex heat transfer problem are introduced. The thermal and hydraulic interaction problem accompanied with transient flow in hot oil pipelines and their solutions are discussed. Problems needed to be further studied in transient heat transfer for buried hot waxy crude pipelines are pointed out.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2019, Volume 20, Issue 12,   Pages 1665-1697 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1900405

Abstract: As a promising physical layer technique, nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) can admit multiple users over the same space-time resource block, and thus improve the spectral efficiency and increase the number of access users. Specifically, NOMA provides a feasible solution to massive Internet of Things (IoT) in 5G and beyond-5G wireless networks over a limited radio spectrum. However, severe co-channel interference and high implementation complexity hinder its application in practical systems. To solve these problems, multiple-antenna techniques have been widely used in NOMA systems by exploiting the benefits of spatial degrees of freedom. This study provides a comprehensive review of various multiple-antenna techniques in NOMA systems, with an emphasis on spatial interference cancellation and complexity reduction. In particular, we provide a detailed investigation on multiple-antenna techniques in two-user, multiuser, massive connectivity, and heterogeneous NOMA systems. Finally, future research directions and challenges are identified.

Research on non-mechanical ventilation effect in Zhongnanshan road tunne

Zheng Xuan,Guo Jiaqi

Strategic Study of CAE 2010, Volume 12, Issue 3,   Pages 39-44

Abstract:

Zhongnanshan extra-long road tunnel in Qingling is large-scale and has a complex ventilation system. In order to guarantee the ventilation scheme properly and save the ventilation expenditure, the evaluation of non-mechanical ventilation effect is of importance. The research team monitored the natural wind initially, traffic flux and the wind induced by natural ventilation pressure and traffic wind force subsequently, and obtained lots of data. Through analysis of the monitoring data, we draw some conclusions: firstly, bigger speed of the natural wind occurs in the period from 10∶00 am to 14∶00 pm, and the greatest value reaches 2.576 m / s; secondly, the period of peak traffic flux in tunnel(east or west line) is mostly constant; at last, the period of bigger wind speed, which induced by natural ventilation pressure and traffic wind force, basically matches the period of peak traffic flux in the east line, while the two periods match badly in west line, meantime, the change of wind speed is relatively smooth in west line. The calculating value of the natural wind speed by method which takes account of some parameters such as wind orientation, frequency of wind orientation, the temperature of portal et al, approximates the monitoring value. The calculating value of the wind speed induced by natural ventilation pressure and traffic wind force is a little smaller than the monitoring, but approximate it.

Strategic Study of CAE 2015, Volume 17, Issue 3,   Pages 60-66

Abstract:

The index system is divided into two levels: the first level includes macro index groups in four aspects, respectively reflecting the characteristics of economy, society, environment, and random fluctuation of wind power; the second level reflects specific index construction of each macro index group in the first level. The weight of an index at each level in index system is eventually determined by level analysis through classifying each index, establishing a multi-level structure, building a paired comparison matrix, and through many rounds of comprehensive analysis in accordance with CR testing. The method and the process of weight determination is objective, rigorous, and scientific. A comprehensive evaluation model is built according to the intrinsic link between indexes, and finally, a scientific, reasonable, and improved system of comprehensive index evaluation is formed. The index system shall observe combination of the current interests with long-term interests, economic, and ecological benefits with social benefits and static analysis with dynamic analysis and take account of guidance, systematic, scientific and adaptive principles in the process of its establishment.
