The vibration waves induced by marine power and gearing systems travel to the hull structure through various supporting bases, which is one of the important factors that cause ship vibration and underwater sound radiation and also directly affects the acoustic performance of ships and ocean acoustic environment. First, a comprehensive review on the theoretical research and engineering application of the vibration control technologies for marine power and gearing systems is presented, and the state of the art of the vibration control technologies is introduced from the perspectives of dynamic optimal design, vibration source control, passive and active control. Next, the technologies that need to be developed, such as the low-frequency active/passive vibration isolation for power flow control, adaptive system and broadband vibration control, metamaterial/metastructure-based vibration and noise control, and intelligent vibration sensing and control for sound radiation, are proposed. The challenges of vibration control technologies for marine power and gearing systems are analyzed subsequently, and countermeasures are further proposed. To promote the vibration control technologies for marine power and gearing systems in China, research on the vibration control theories need to be strengthened and the research and application of key technologies needs to be accelerated. Furthermore, the development of various active vibration control devices and the related technical standards system should be encouraged and established. National research platforms and talent training bases should be consolidated and the integration of industry, research institutes, universities and customers should be promoted.

Simulation on Scaling-up for Coupling to Oxalic Acid in Gaseous Phase

Strategic Study of CAE 2001, Volume 3, Issue 2, Pages 79-85
The synthesis of oxalic acid by CO coupling reaction in gaseous phase is a circulating system with multi-step reactions. The best catalyst was prepared and the reaction mechanism was proposed in the past work. It was found that the key problem for scaling-up this process is to match the CO coupling reaction rate with the regeneration rate. In this thesis, these two reactions were simulated by analyzing the sensitivity of operating parameters based on the acquired reaction kinetics. It was proposed that the match of these two reactions is a complex non-linear process. The key technique was investigated during the scale-up experiments of catalyst preparation and CO coupling reaction. By analyzing the simulation and experimental results, the key problem for the match of CO coupling with regeneration reaction was resolved. The scale-up circulating system for oxalic production was continuously run for 1000 hours and no intermediates was vented. It was proved that the match of these two reactions was achieved and an environmentally benign process for oxalic acid production has been set-up after a series of study. It provides a new technology for industrial production of oxalic acid.

After reviewing the basic idea, methods of optimization and scale up for fermentation process adopted by many researchers for quite a long time, the author believes that the static optimizing method based on the kinetic conception with conventional optimum operating condition, in fact, is only an extension of kinetic conception of chemical engineering to the fermentation process. Such being the case, the existence of cellular metabolic flux is often neglected. Thus, the viewpoint to emphasize the metabolic flux analysis and control in bioreactor is put forward in this paper. Through several further experiments, the optimization technology of fermentation process at multi-levels based on the parameter correlation methodology and scaling-up strategy with multi parameters modulation have been realized. With the development of process sensing and computer technology, the new concept bioreactor (FUS-50L(A)) is used for fermentation processes optimization and scale up. This new bioreactor aimed at the measurement of material flux has been successfully applied to the fermentation of penicillin, erythromycin, aureomycin, inosine, guanosine, as well as the cultivation of recombinant human serum albumin, malaria vaccine, etc. As a result, thirty percent to several folds increase in titers were achieved. The process can be directly used for the scale up of Permentor from 50 liters to several hundred liters, even to 100 m3.

Research on Relationship Between Vibration and Noise of 6203-2RZ Rolling Bearing

Strategic Study of CAE 2003, Volume 5, Issue 8, Pages 64-69
Based on experimentation, the relationship between the vibration and the noise of rolling bearings is studied. A type of rolling bearing, 6203 - 2RZ, is used in experimentation. The vibration includes the virtual values of the acceleration and the velocity, and the noise refers to the sound-pressure-level. The experiment data are comprehensively processed in the light of the theory of mathematical statistics. According to the results of data processing, the relationship between the vibration and the noise of rolling bearings is not definite. Therefore, the vibration can not represent the noise. The problem of the noise of rolling bearings should be studied independently, the standard of the noise and the corresponding technological specification of the rolling bearings should be established.

Ambient Noise Tomography for Coral Islands Article

As valuable land in the ocean, coral islands are not only important bases for making use of marine resources and protecting marine rights and interests, but also important for breakthrough research in many fields of earth science. Hence, the economical and efficient determination of the underground structure of coral islands has become significant in coral island engineering geology, but remains challenging for traditional marine geophysical prospecting and drilling methods. While ambient noise tomography with dense arrays has been widely used in continental regions, its applicability to coral islands remains undetermined. In this study, based on the data recorded by a dense array on an isolated coral island in the South China Sea, we analyzed the ambient noise characteristics and obtained a 3D subsurface structure of the coral island using ambient noise tomography. We made the following findings: ① The ambient noise frequencies can be roughly categorized into three levels: < 1, 1–5, and > 5 Hz. The spectral characteristics of the noise below 5 Hz were consistent at different stations, but there were significant differences in the characteristics of the noise above 5 Hz. ② For ambient noise frequencies below 5 Hz, cross-correlation functions with high quality could be obtained with only 24 h of waveform data. However, it was difficult to extract meaningful cross-correlation functions for ambient noise frequencies above 5 Hz. ③ The S-wave velocity in the coral island was higher toward the sea and lower toward the lagoon, which was consistent with the high degree of cementation of the outer reef flat stratum on the seaward side. ④ There were two low-velocity horizons at 25–75 and 200–300 m, which were in good agreement with the high-porosity horizons that were revealed by drilling core samples, reflecting the weathering history of the reef. Our research demonstrates that ambient noise tomography is a potentially economical, efficient, and environmentally friendly method for the geological prospecting of coral reefs.
