Li Yuanyuan, Tan Minghong, Zhang Hongqi

Strategic Study of CAE 2018, Volume 20, Issue 5,   Pages 90-95 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2018.05.014

Abstract:

Cropland is the basis of grain production. In recent decades, the spatial pattern of cropland in China has changed significantly, which has caused some impact on grain production. Based on land cover data of 1990, 2000, and 2010, this study explored changes in the spatial pattern of cropland, and constructed a database with a spatial resolution of 1 km based on county-level agricultural statistics and soil organic matter data, which is the representative of crop productivity. The results show that: during the period from 1990 to 2010, drastic reclamation happened in Northeast and Northwest China while the cropland acreage decreased in Huang-Huai-Hai Plain; the main source of new cropland during the study period was grassland (46.9%), and the lost cropland was mainly converted to forest land (36.6%) in the first ten years and then to construction land (53.0%) in the following ten years; the changes in the spatial pattern of cropland have caused a decrease of 2.0% in the average crop productivity, and during this period, the construction land mostly occupied high-quality cropland, while the newly reclaimed cropland had lower crop productivity.

Rangeland Productivity in China

Hou Fujiang,Wang Chunmei,Lou Shanning,Hou Xiangyang and Hu Tianming

Strategic Study of CAE 2016, Volume 18, Issue 1,   Pages 80-93 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2016.01.011

Abstract:

Through analyzing the plant production and animal production of grassland in China and comparing the grassland productivity at home and abroad, the author finds that, in the past over 30 years, the grass production of grassland declined slightly in some regions of China. Among the global animal products, 40.08% came from the world's grassland and 67.35% was from middle income countries. 24.1% of the global beef production and 31.9% of the global mutton production were supported by grassland. The grazing capacity of the grassland of low income countries was 87.4% higher than that of high income countries and 66.4% higher than that of middle income countries. However, their output of animal products respectively accounts for 37.3% and 71.9% of that of high and middle income countries. With appropriate grazing utilization, the productivity of grassland in China can reach 6.35×109 APU. The meat production from animal grazing grassland can reach 2.959×106 t, accounting for 3.5% of the national meat production and 27.4% of the national beef and mutton production. After the transformation of modernization of grassland animal husbandry, China's grassland productivity will be close to that of high income countries with a potential increase of about 50%–200%.

Theory and practice of turning R & D results into productive force in major equipment

Zhang Xiaolu

Strategic Study of CAE 2011, Volume 13, Issue 8,   Pages 50-54

Abstract:

Starting with the characteristics of technological R & D and project application in power generating companies, this paper expounds on the theoretical analysis and organizational methods of turning R & D results into productive force in major equipment. Faced with the widespread problem that putting R & D results into application is both lengthy and difficult, the author proposes the mechanism of "joint work among industry, college, research institute and user under the users' leadership"; puts forth the thought for major equipment R & D management that features "oriented by commercialization of demonstration project, premised on the responsibility system for project management, unite advantageous parties nationwide to make joint efforts with enterprises taking the overall responsibility and research institutes providing support," and explores the mode to promote R & D results with "R & D and promotion in parallel". In this paper, two case studies are used to illustrate the effects of such a management mode of scientific researches. "Ultra super-critical coal-fired power generation technology" is widely applied to power development, and has become the priority choice in newly built large coal-fired power plants in China. The project named "R & D and project demonstration of air-cooling system in thermal units" solves the water-saving issue of power plants in northern China. The problems in the ownership of research results, reward application and result ratification were analyzed, and some corresponding suggestions were put forward.

Water Resource Effectiveness of Vegetation Conservation and Restoration in North China

Sun Siqi,Chen Yongzhe,Wang Cong,Hu Qingfang,Lyu Yihe

Strategic Study of CAE 2022, Volume 24, Issue 5,   Pages 97-106 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2022.05.012

Abstract:

In recent years, a series of ecological protection and restoration projects has been implemented in North China, and the vegetation conditions have changed significantly. Exploring the impact of regional vegetation restoration on the water circulation process and the balance of water supply and demand is important for improving ecological restoration strategies and realizing the sustainable utilization of regional water resources. This study conducted a comprehensive analysis using the Pearson correlation coefficient and Moran’s I index and based on multi-source water covariate data. The spatial and temporal variation of vegetation and different water covariates is analyzed, the water resource effects of vegetation conservation and restoration are identified, and the tradeoff between water resources and vegetation restoration is discussed. The results show that the effects of ecological protection and restoration projects are remarkable, with the net primary productivity increasing at a rate of approximately 2.3 times faster than that outside the project area; the vegetation expansion and evapotranspiration show strong spatial and temporal correlations; and the increase in evapotranspiration owing to vegetation restoration is the main reason for the deficit or significant reduction in water storage. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the implementation strategy of ecological restoration while considering the restriction of water resources on vegetation conservation and restoration, strengthen the dominant position of the ecosystem’s own resilience, and promote the sustainability of vegetation restoration and the sustainable use of regional water esources.

Strategic Study of CAE 2023, Volume 25, Issue 2,   Pages 243-253 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2023.07.014

Abstract:

The human‒coal space relationship is significant for the safe and efficient production of coalmines. Reconstructing the human‒coal space order using intelligent technologies in coalmines will provide a core technical support for the high-quality development of the coal industry. This study examines the evolution and research progress of the human‒coal space relationship and proposes a human‒physical‒information (HPC) space form to break constraints from the traditional human‒physical space structure of coalmines. We find that coalmine intellectualization can change the physical locations and relative motions of coalmine production factors; it can reconstruct the three major factors of production, establish an integrated intelligent production management mode, and improve the development space of miners’ social values, thereby achieving an interconnection-of-everything production scene and liberating human from underground mining. Moreover, the study analyzes intelligent coal-mining and intelligent well-construction cases and reveals the practical values of coal mine intellectualization for the change of the human‒coal space relationship. We suggest that a development mode integrating new-generation technologies and modern coalmines should be established based on the intelligent HPC space theory of coalmines and by targeting human liberation and comprehensive development. This will promote the safe, efficient, intelligent, and green development and thus the overall upgrading of the coal industry.

Huang Feng, Du Taisheng, Wang Sufen, Mei Xurong, Gong Daozhi, Chen Yuanquan, Kang Shaozhong

Strategic Study of CAE 2019, Volume 21, Issue 5,   Pages 28-37 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2019.05.024

Abstract:

North China is one of the major breadbaskets in China and is critical in ensuring food security of the nation. It sustained 18% of national total arable land, and 23% of national total grain crop output using only 6% of national total water resources. However, such impressive accomplishments were achieved at huge costs incurred in resources, environment, and ecosystem. We first presented accomplishments, current situations, and main challenges facing agriculture and water use in North China. Then, using an integrated framework in agricultural water management widely adopted by international water research communities, we reviewed the trajectory of agricultural development and its associated water withdrawal, water use efficiencies, and productivities in North China from 1998 to 2015, from which some major experiences and lessons were derived. We then tentatively proposed policy and strategy pathways to ensure food security in North China in the future.

The Skyscraper Crop Factory: A Potential Crop-Production System to Meet Rising Urban Food Demand Perspective

Li Zhang, Lan Huang, Tao Li, Tao Wang, Xiao Yang, Qichang Yang

Engineering 2023, Volume 31, Issue 12,   Pages 70-75 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2023.08.014

Abstract:

Vertical farming systems, such as sky farms, are a potential type of agricultural system for stable and effective food production. Here, we highlight the potential of the sky farm, denoted as the “skyscraper crop factory” (SCF), for cereal crop production and discuss some nascent technologies that would be applied in this production system. SCFs are ideal crop-production systems for increasing the effective arable area for crops and ensuring food security in times of crises that cause a shock in global trade. They can also provide food in urban areas to meet producers’ and consumers’ demands for the increased nutrition, taste, and safe production of cereal crops. Moreover, as their use can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, SCFs could be a sustainable addition to conventional agricultural crop production.

Cao Chen,Yu Bo and Gu Weidong

Strategic Study of CAE 2015, Volume 17, Issue 3,   Pages 107-112

Abstract:

It is predicted that the population of China will be growing to 1.45 billion, the urbanization rate will be 70 % by 2030, the total urban population will be exploded to 1 billion comparing with 0.7 billion urban population of 2013. As the continuously growing of population of China and urban population, China will face severe food crisis, especially the protein shortage problem in future. This paper presents a new theoretical model that by combining non-grid-connected wind power and coal to gas with bioengineering to produce single cell protein to contribute to resolving the food crisis. By combining non-grid-connected wind power and coal to gas with bioengineering to produce single cell protein can not only use the coal resource more efficiently, environmental friendly, but also produce nutrient rich protein for forage and human food.

Probing the Interfacial Forces and Surface Interaction Mechanisms in Petroleum Production Processes Review

Diling Yang,Xuwen Peng,Qiongyao Peng,Tao Wang,Chenyu Qiao,Ziqian Zhao,Lu Gong,Yueliang Liu,Hao Zhang,Hongbo Zeng,

Engineering 2022, Volume 18, Issue 11,   Pages 49-61 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2022.06.012

Abstract:

Despite the advances that have been made in renewable energy over the past decade, crude oil or petroleum remains one of the most important energy resources to the world. Petroleum production presents many challenging issues, such as the destabilization of complex oil–water emulsions, fouling phenomena on pipelines and other facilities, and water treatment. These problems are influenced by the molecular forces at the oil/water/solid/gas interfaces involved in relevant processes. Herein, we present an overview of recent advances on probing the interfacial forces in several petroleum production processes (e.g., bitumen extraction, emulsion stabilization and destabilization, fouling and antifouling phenomena, and water treatment) by applying nanomechanical measurement technologies such as a surface forces apparatus (SFA) and an atomic force microscope (AFM). The interaction forces between bitumen and mineral solids or air bubbles in the surrounding fluid media determine the bitumen liberation and flotation efficiency in oil sands production. The stability of complex oil/water emulsions is governed by the forces between emulsion drops and particularly between interface-active species (e.g., asphaltenes). Various oil components (e.g., asphaltenes) and emulsion drops interact with different substrate surfaces (e.g., pipelines or membranes), influencing fouling phenomena, oil–water separation, and wastewater treatment. Quantifying these intermolecular and interfacial forces has advanced the mechanistic understanding of these interfacial interactions, facilitating the development of advanced materials and technologies to solve relevant challenging issues and improve petroleum production processes. Remaining challenges and suggestions on future research directions in the field are also presented.

Research and Development of CAD/CAPP/CAM Integrated System

Wei Erwei,Liang Muyang,Yang Ping

Strategic Study of CAE 2000, Volume 2, Issue 4,   Pages 59-63

Abstract:

In this paper a practical CAD/CAPP/CAM integrated system is introduced. This system has been developed by mechanical designers, process planners and NC progragmmers on the basis of a commercial CAD/CAM software named Pro/ENGINEER. It consists of three subsystems: Feature Recognition Subsystem, CAPP Subsystem and Automatical CAM Subsystem. In Feature Recognition Subsystem, machining features information of a part is obtained from a three dimensional part. In CAPP Subsystem, machining features information is analyzed, sets and sequences of the process planning are created automatically, tool and cutting parameters for each sequence are selected from tools library, the order of sequences is arranged. In Automatical CAM Subsystem, NC sequences for machining the part are created automatically according to the CAPP result. After the NC sequences in the machining process being simulated, the file of cutter location data is generated. Finally through a post processor, the NC code file is output and transmitted to a NC machine to machine the part.
