Occurrence of bisphenol A in surface and drinking waters and its physicochemical removal technologies

摘要: Bisphenol A (BPA), an endocrine disrupting compound, has caused wide public concerns due to its wide occurrence in environment and harmful effects. BPA has been detected in many surface waters and drinking water with the maximum concentrations up to tens of μg·L . The physicochemical technology options in eliminating BPA can be divided into four categories: oxidation, advanced oxidation, adsorption and membrane filtration. Each removal option has its own limitation and merits in removing BPA. Oxidation and advanced oxidation generally can remove BPA efficiently while they also have some drawbacks, such as high cost, the generation of a variety of transformation products that are even more toxic than the parent compound and difficult to be mineralized. Only few advanced oxidation methods have been reported to be able to mineralize BPA completely. Therefore, it is important not only to identify the major initial transformation products but also to assess their estrogenic activity relative to the parent compounds when oxidation methods are employed to remove BPA. Without formation of harmful by-products, physical separation methods such as activated carbon adsorption and membrane processes are able to remove BPA in water effluents and thus have potential as BPA removal technologies. However, the necessary regeneration of activated carbon and the low BPA removal efficiency when the membrane became saturated may limit the application of activated carbon adsorption and membrane processes for BPA removal. Hybrid processes, e.g. combining adsorption and biologic process or combining membrane and oxidation process, which can achieve simultaneous physical separation and degradation of BPA, will be highly preferred in future.

摘要: Herein, Cu–Al bimetallic oxide was synthesized and mixed with mesoporous silica spheres via a simple hydrothermal method. The prepared sample was then analyzed and employed to activate potassium peroxydisulfate for bisphenol A removal. Based on the results of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersion spectroscopy, Cu–Al bimetallic oxide was determined as CuO-Al2O3, and mesoporous silica spheres were found around the these particles. At 30 min, a bisphenol A degradation level of 90% was achieved, and it remained at over 60% after five consecutive cycles, indicating the catalyst’s superior capacity and stability. In terms of removal performance, the radical pathway (including SO4•‒, OH •, and O2•‒) and singlet oxygen (1O2) played minor roles, while electron migration between bisphenol A, potassium peroxydisulfate, and the catalyst played a dominant role. The introduction of Al2O3 promoted the formation of surface oxygen vacancies, which improved ligand complex formation between potassium peroxydisulfate and the catalyst, thereby facilitating electron migration. Furthermore, mesoporous silica spheres augment not only enhanced bisphenol A adsorption but also alleviated Cu leaching. Overall, this work is expected to provide significant support for the rational development of catalysts with high catalytic activity for persulfate activation via surface electron migration.

Synthesis of haptens and production of antibodies to bisphenol A

摘要: Three immunizing haptens of bisphenol A (BPA), including two new haptens, were used to produce highly sensitive and specific polyclonal antibodies. The spacer arms of haptens for coupling to the protein carrier were located at different positions in BPA, and different length spacer arms were tested. Highly sensitive polyclonal antibodies were obtained and characterized using indirect competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (icELISA). Under optimized conditions, the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC ) value of the best polyclonal antibody was 2.1 mg·L , based on coating heterogeneous antigens, and this optimal polyclonal antibody was highly sensitive toward BPA and displayed negligible cross-reactivity with bisphenol B and bisphenol E. A sensitive icELISA method utilizing the polyclonal antibody was developed for the determination of BPA in milk. In spiked samples (5, 10 and 20mg·L ), the recovery ranged from 80% to 102% with a coefficient of variation (CV) value below 15.8%. The limit of detection of icELISA was 1.95mg·L . These results indicate that the icELISA method is suitable for the detection of BPA in milk.

Effect of natural aquatic humic substances on the photodegradation of bisphenol A

摘要: The photochemical degradation of bisphenol A (BPA) was studied in the presence of natural humic sub stances from different origins under simulated solar irradiation. BPA underwent insignificant direct photolysis in neutral water, but rapid photosensitized degradation in four humic substances solutions via pseudo-first-order reaction occurred. The photodegradation rate of BPA was insensitive to the different initial BPA concentrations and was inhibited in aerated solution compared with the deoxygenated medium. The reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as ?·OH and O produced from excitation of humic substances under irradiation was determined from the quenching kinetic experiment using molecular probe. The five main intermediate photoproducts of BPA in Nordic lake fulvic acid (NOFA) were tentatively identified using gas chromatography/mass spectrometer (GC/MS). Based on the identification of ROS and the analysis of photoproduct formation, the possible phototransformation pathways of BPA were proposed, involving the direct photolysis due to the energy transfer from the triplet state humic substance (HS) to BPA molecules and hydroxyl radical addition and oxidation as well.

Degradation of bisphenol A by microorganisms immobilized on polyvinyl alcohol microspheres

摘要: In this study, microorganisms (named B111) were immobilized on polyvinyl alcohol microspheres prepared by the inverse suspension crosslinked method. The biodegradation of bisphenol A (BPA) and 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde, a degradation product of BPA, by free and immobilized B111 was investigated. The BPA degradation studies were carried out at initial BPA concentrations ranging from 25 to 150 mg·L . The affinity constant K and maximum degradation rate were 98.3 mg·L and 19.7 mg·mg VSS·d for free B111, as well as 87.2 mg·L and 21.1 mg·mg VSS·d for immobilized B111, respectively. 16S rDNA gene sequence analyses confirmed that the dominant genera were and for BPA biodegradation in microorganisms B111.

Bisphenol A removal from synthetic municipal wastewater by a bioreactor coupled with either a forward

摘要: Forward osmotic membrane bioreactor is an emerging technology that combines the advantages of forward osmosis and conventional membrane bioreactor. In this paper, bisphenol A removal by using a forward osmotic membrane bioreactor and a conventional membrane bioreactor that shared one biologic reactor was studied. The total removal rate of bisphenol A by the conventional membrane bioreactor and forward osmotic membrane bioreactor was as high as 93.9% and 98%, respectively. Biodegradation plays a dominant role in the total removal of bisphenol A in both processes. In comparison of membrane rejection, the forward osmosis membrane can remove approximately 70% bisphenol A from the feed, much higher than that of the microfiltration membrane (below 10%). Forward osmosis membrane bioreactor should be operated with its BPA loading rate under 0.08 mg·g ·d to guarantee the effluent bisphenol A concentration less than10 μg·L .

Degradation of endocrine disruptor bisphenol A in drinking water by ozone oxidation

摘要: The ozone oxidation of endocrine disruptor bisphenol A in drinking water was investigated. A stainless completely mixed reactor was employed to carry out the degradation experiments by means of a batch model. With an initial concentration of 11.0 mg/L, the removal efficiencies of BPA (bisphenol A) could be measured up to 70%, 82%, and 90% when the dosages of ozone were 1, 1.5, and 2 mg/L, respectively. The impacts on BPA degradation under the conditions of different ozone dosages, water background values, BPA initial concentrations, and ozone adding time were analyzed. The results showed that ozone dosage plays a dominant role during the process of BPA degradation, while the impact of the contact time could be ignored. UV wavelength scanning was used to confirm that the by-products were produced, which could be absorbed at UV254. The value of UV254 was observed to have changed during the ozonation process. Based on the change of UV254, it could be concluded that BPA is not completely degraded at low ozone dosage, while shorter adding time of total ozone dosage, high ozone dosage, and improvement of dissolved ozone concentration greatly contribute to the extent of BPA degradation. The effects of applied HO dose in ozone oxidation of BPA were also examined in this study. The O-HO processes proved to have similar effects on the degradation of BPA by ozone oxidation.

Protective effects of lignin fractions obtained from grape seeds against bisphenol AF neurotoxicity via

摘要: Lignin exhibits antioxidative and various other biological properties. However, its neuroprotection capability has rarely been studied. In this study, three types of lignin with different structures were prepared from grape seeds by using different isolation techniques. The antioxidative and neuroprotective effects of the lignin fractions were evaluated with the apoptosis model of murine neuroectodermal (NE-4C) neural stem cells stimulated with bisphenol AF. The results demonstrated that the half maximal inhibitory concentration for scavenging 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl with water-soluble lignin (L-W, 58.19 μg·mL–1) was lower than those of lignin in the autohydrolyzed residue of grape seeds (84.27 μg·mL–1) and original lignin in grape seeds (99.44 μg·mL–1). BPAF exposure had negative effects on the reactive oxygen species, malondialdehyde content, and superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities in NE-4C cells, which can be reversed by using the prepared lignin to reduce oxidative stress. An immunofluorescence assay demonstrated that grape seed lignin induced protective effects on BPAF-injured NE-4C cells via the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related Factor 2 pathway. In addition, correlational analyses showed that lignin (L-W) with lower molecular weights and noncondensed phenolic hydroxyl group content and higher contents of COOH groups effectively prevented cell apoptosis, scavenged reactive oxygen species, and ensured protection from nerve injury. This study demonstrated that grape seed lignin can be used as a neuroprotective agent and serves as a demonstration of active lignin production from grape seed waste.

Determination and occurrence of endocrine disrupting compounds, pharmaceuticals and personal care products in fish (

摘要: Endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs), pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) have attracted much attention due to widespread contamination in aquatic environment. In this study, we determined 13 EDCs and PPCPs in fish blood, bile and muscle by using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The limits of quantitation (LOQ) were in the ranges of 0.23–2.54, 0.22–2.36 ng·mL , and 0.24–2.57 ng·g dry weight (dw) for fish blood, bile and muscle, respectively. Recoveries of target compounds spiked into sample matrices and passed through the entire analytical procedure ranged from 65% to 95%, from 60% to 92% and from 62% to 91% for blood, bile and muscle, respectively. The methods were applied to the analysis of fish from a lake in California. Target compounds were relatively low in bile, and only bisphenol A (BPA) and diclofenac were measurable near the LOQ. Seven of 13 compounds were detected in blood, with total concentrations up to 39 ng·mL . Only BPA was frequently found in muscle, with mean concentration of 7.26 ng·g dw. The estimated daily intake of BPA through fish consumption for U.S. resident was significantly lower than the tolerable daily intake recommended by the European Food Safety Authority. This study showed that the exposure to the bisphenol A from fish diet is unlikely to pose a health risk.

Bisphenol-A epoxy resin reinforced and toughened by hyperbranched epoxy resin

摘要: The study on toughening and reinforcing of bisphenol-A epoxy resin is one of important developmental direction in the field. This paper reports a one-pot synthesis of aromatic polyester hyperbranched epoxy resin HTDE-2, an effect of HTDE-2 content on the mechanical and thermal performance of the bisphenol-A (E51)/HTDE-2 hybrid resin in detail. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer, scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calo ri metry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMA) and molecular simula tion technology are used to study the structure of HTDE-2, performance and toughening and reinforcing mechanism of the HTDE-2/E51 hybrid resin. It has been shown that the content of HTDE-2 has an important effect on the performance of the hybrid resin, and the performance of the HTDE-2/E51 blends has maximum with the increase in HTDE-2 content. The impact strength and fracture toughness of the hybrid resin with 9 wt-% HTDE-2 are almost 3.088 and 1.749 times of E51 performance respectively, furthermore, the tensile and flexural strength can also be enhanced about 20.7% and 14.2%, respectively. The glass transition temperature and thermal degradation temperature, however, are found to decrease to some extent.

Condensation of phenol and acetone on a modified macroreticular ion exchange resin catalyst

摘要: Macroreticular ion exchange resin catalysts were prepared by suspension polymerization, and then modified by alkylmercaptoamines. The modified catalysts were characterized by N adsorption/desorption measurements, scanning electron microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. Key factors such as the mercaptan content, the degree of crosslinking and the structures of the promoters were investigated for the synthesis of Bisphenol A (BPA). At optimal conditions, the macroreticular ion exchange resin catalysts modified by alkylmercaptoamines showed high catalytic activity and selectivity for BPA synthesis.

新型磷系阻燃剂四苯基双酚A二磷酸酯阻燃ABS的应用研究

摘要:

利用自制的四苯基双酚A二磷酸酯(BDP)及其复配体系制备了阻燃ABS,研究了阻燃ABS的物理机械性能、氧指数(LOI)和垂直燃烧测试性能(UL94)、材料的阻燃性能和烟气释放。试验结果显示:酚醛树脂(NP)的加入可提高BDP阻燃体系的成炭效果,采用BDP/NP= 20 %/5 %的体系阻燃ABS,材料的冲击性能下降了12.00 %,LOI达到29.50 %,UL94阻燃性能达到V-0级,av-HRR和pkHRR分别下降了46.40 %和40.45 %,TTI延长30 s,FGI下降了50.75 %,6 min内的SEA上升了31.30 %,600 ℃时成炭率为7.19 %;采用BDP/NP /APP=20 %/5 %/5 %时,材料的冲击性能降幅为36.00 %,LOI最大可达30.10 %,UL94阻燃性能为V-0级,av-HRR和pkHRR最大分别下降50.11 %和55.58 %,TTI延长35 s ,FGI最大降幅为64.32 %,6 min内的SEA升幅为20.52 %,600 ℃时成炭率为11.15 %;采用BDP/NP/纳米SiO2 =20 %/5 %/7 %时,材料的冲击性能上升了20.00 %,LOI达到31.20 %,UL94阻燃性能达到V-0级,av-HRR和pkHRR分别下降了49.45 %和58.09 %,TTI延长45 s,FGI降幅为68.34 %,6 min内av-SEA升幅为13.00 %,600 ℃时成炭率为16.37 %,阻燃ABS的综合性能最好。
