Food security is the cornerstone of national security. Scientifically planning the national food security strategy is an important prerequisite for effectively coping with new situations of domestic and international food security and building a new development pattern featuring domestic and international dual circulation. The Chinese Academy of Engineering launched the consulting project of “Strategic Research on National Food Security in the Context of Dual Circulation”. It analyzes the basic situation of food security in China in the current and future periods, proposed to ensure food security of China by mainly relying on the domestic cycle, and put forward the overall ideas, implementation paths, major projects, and countermeasures for ensuring the food security of China.
Promoting the transformation of agri-food systems to be more sustainable, efficient, resilient, and inclusive is a common issue facing countries worldwide, and it is also an important part of actively responding to multiple challenges such as climate change, tightened resource and environmental constraints, food waste, and intensified external risks, so as to ensure China’s food security and achieve sustainable economic and social development. The Chinese Academy of Engineering launched the consulting project of “Strategic Research on the Transformation of Agri-food System in the New Development Stage”. It summarized the basic characteristics of the evolution of China’s agri-food system and conducted in-depth research on the transformation directions toward nutrition and health, green and low carbon, inclusive sharing, safety and resilience. It also focused on promoting the transformation and reconstruction of the agri-food system at five levels: heat and nutrition, water and land resource utilization, regional balance, carbon sink and carbon emissions, as well as domestic and international markets and resources, and proposed strategic paths for the transformation of China’s agri-food system in the new development stage.
